====>[B12 Lipotropic Injections] Anyone else self-administering? Are you a nurse?

I started phentermine again on Friday, June 13th 2008. I am seeing a doctor in Savannah. He prescribed me on phentermine (which has worked for me before) and I bought a whole vial of B12 with Lipotropics to take home. The nurse showed me how to administer the shots. She told me if I wanted to do them myself I had to do them in my legs.

So I just taught my roomate how to give them to me and she has been giving them to me just like the doctor prescribed. I get 2cc every other day....which seems kind of odd to me since every other post I've read talks about either getting them once a week or once a month.

Has anyone ever administered their own B12 Lipo injections? They gave me the syringes, cotton balls, alcohol and the vial. It all costed $179.00 (not including the doctor's visits) but the Lipotropics contain:

Choline - which supports liver health and helps the liver metabolise fats easier

Methione - which is an amino acid. It aids in preventing and relieving fatigue.

Inositol - Aids in the metabolism of fats and helps reduce blood cholesterol. It also participates in action of serotonin, a neurotransmitter known to control mood and appetite.


So I was wondering did anyone else buy the vial to administer themselves? If so, how much and how often? Also, how far do you put the needle in when you are getting the shot?? The needle is about 2 inches long and I am just curious how much of the needle is suppose to go in?? My roomate has been putting just the tip in and today I don't think she put it in far enough because now my arm is red and swollen and it hurts really bad.

I think she just injected it into my skin.

Any ideas????

May i suggest you contact your doc,red and swollen an the pain would tell me wasnt done correctly.

Lipotropic does hurt while it is going in, because of the medication. I get the lipotropic shots every week, and to be completly honest I think I have lost weight on my own verses the shots. Well not completly alone thanks to phen controling my hunger. Oh but the best place to recieve a shot if you are going to do it yourself is on the arm. On the upper part, and you can do it yourself plus you can feel it go into the muscle versus the skin. Hope this helps.

I do the weekly HCG Shots, well actually I don't give them to my self, DH does it. The needle on them is about 2 inches long and I get the shot 2 inches away from my belly button on either side. He sticks the whold thing in! That is how the nurse showed us to do it.

If the needle is about 2 inches long then the shot should be given in a muscle. If the shot was to be given right under the skin then the needle would be considerably shorter.

If you are having red swollen skin with pain you need contact your doctor.

Thank you all soooo much. Yeah I watched a video on youtube about administering B12 shots. It was from a weight loss sight and a nurse was the one teaching. I noticed that she did infact stick the entire needle in so that is probably why I got a reaction because she was just sticking the tip of the needle in. Probably was injected under my dermatitis rather then intramuscular.....thanks again.

Yes, pop in in using your wrist like throwing a dart and stick the whole thing in. Don't let the length of the needle scare you. You wouldn't believe how much fat tissue our bodies have covering our muscles, so you've got to remember that the needle has to get through the fat before it reaches the muscle. Your friend probably gave it subcutaneously (under the skin) and that caused the redness.

Thank you so much Lori. I am kind of nervous about her doing it. I think the redness came from her putting it under my skin too. It is gone now thank God. Also, she cleaned the needle with alcohol and I looked over and saw her doing it and I was like "noooo you have to clean the top of the vial!! not the needle!!" I couldn't believe it! ha ha. Anyways, I think I might just give them to myself from now on in my legs like they taught me.

i have been getting these shots for almost three month now, but i get the doctor to do it. it's 80 dollars for 5 weeks and has been well worth it. how long is the supply supposed to last for $179.00? i'm just not a needle person....and i can tell a big difference in the way it feels when the shot is administered when the doctor does it as opposed to one of her assistants.....i just don't trust it. plus, i get the shots in my hip. if they do the right hip one week, it's the left hip the following week.

Wow that is amazing!!! I can't believe at how much weight you have lost with the shots! You aren't talking any pills whatsoever?? Just the shots???

You push the needle all the way in. Don't hesitate, just do it...be sure to draw back on it to be sure you don't hit a vein...then just push it in..
