Okay, so I haven't been around in awhile and I'm glad to be back (school finals and such!).
I've lost a couple of pounds by switching some of my daily routine without phen, but it's time to get down to business.
So, I have PCOS and am insulin resistant. Currently I am taking Metformin (4 500 pills)(insurance denied byetta because of the new step program a lot of insurance companies are starting), Glyset (only to be taken with high starch meals), and Phen (started again today, 37.5).
So, my question is, has anyone with insulin resistance and pcos done well with a controlled calorie diet (it's 1,200 calories, and it's done me fairly well in the past) paired with phen?
I know I have an issue with the way my insulin works, but I can't stomach so much protein right now (low carb diet). My plan is to drop 20-30lbs using a low calorie diet, and possibly switching to a lower carb diet. Is this a bad idea since low-calories usually = high carb and carbs don't do my IR well?
(Sorry this is so long!)
I'm going to do a simple food exchange plan that follows as:
8 fruits/veggies
6 starches
5 proteins
2 milks
3 fats
It comes out to roughly 1,200 calories. I might add it up to 1,300.
Do you think I could tweak the starch and make it 4 starch and 6 proteins to make it higher in protein than carbs? Then there is still the 8 fruits and veggies which tend to be carb filled but they're good, natural, unprocessed carbs....
And suggestions, ideas, or opinions?
