Hand Foot and Mouth disease??? Most of you are mom's, so I thoughtg I would ask. I posted a thread earlier about my daughter not feeling well (she is almost 2) I just got back from the Dr. and she has this virus, so there is no antibiotic. i am also almost positive that she got from going to childwatch at the gym. So, now i am going to have to go real early, before my hubby goes to work. ANYWAYS, if any of you have ever dealt with this before, any info would be great. the doc said it would last about 5 days and to give her a mixture of benadryl, maalox, and orajel. She has nasts sores all over her tounge and back of throat,(thank god, nothing on her hands and feet...) I appreciate any help...thanks guys

It's EVERY where here - TN.

My friends kids in Knoxville have it and I was sent home a notice from my boys Parents Day out program that a child there has it, very contagious etc. (and this is the 2nd time this year)

But from what I understand - it does pass quickly. Good luck, so sorry for you and your daughter.

Awww, poor baby! I have never had to deal with it yet, so I have no advice, I am sorry. I hope she feels better real soon!!

When my kids went to Head Start both of them had it. It was awful. My poor daughter cried with it because she said it made her hands itch and hurt (she was 3). I took her to the dr and he told me there was really nothing to use to help it, that it just had to run it's course. He said corizone cream may help itching, but where it was on her hands I didn't want to use it, afraid she would get it in her mouth. It took about a week and a half to go away.
Sorry I can't help more, and I hope she gets over it FAST!!!

YES! My daughter had this when she was 2. Sores all in her mouth. Though never appeared on her hands but yes on the bottom of feet. It is terrrible. Tons of fluids and you make a mixture of maalox and something else and give them that several times per day to soothe their mouth. It really does stink though. My daughter just cried and cried and her mouth was terrible to look at and smell (sorry gross I know). After the 2nd day she was feeling a lot better though. Good luck and hope your little one feels better soon.

It went around our old neighborhood when we lived in Kansas. Google "hoof and mouth disease" it is from livestock. Humans get a similar form of it called "foot and mouth"

Sorry to hear that. Hope she feels better soon. I've taken the benadryl, maalox mix for a sore throat and it is nasty.

Hey thanks everyone, I feel a little better about it now, its just kind gross, she only has it in her mouth (so far, nothing on her hands and feet) I am also mixing the maalox, benadryl and orajel solution, which she took, but didnt like, OH WELL! I was just kind freakin out cuz I am kind of a clean freak and this disease seemed "dirty" to me, kids will be kids, i guess.

Did the dr. tell you to have her swallow the mixture or just swish and spit like mouth wash?

She only takes a teaspoon at a time, so I guess she can swallow it, but i only give it to her every 4-5 hrs. The pharm at walgreens didnt say ! I just hate it when my babies are sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you think I should try to make her spit it out? She is only 22 months old, so I dont know if she can.....
