    Question Ok, What's PhenD??

    What is the PhenD?

I saw a few other gals wanted to know too so thought I'd start a thread. I go to the dr. today for a pro-time(bloodwork for blood clots) and wanted to know so I could ask if it would work better than the Phen 37.5. Think I've been on the Phen too long cause it's not doing anything for my appetite.

Sorry for the threadjack. Do you have a clotting factor? I had a pulmonary embolism a few years ago and I was told that I need to take Coumadin for life. I was not convinced though. I stopped taking it after a year against doctor's orders. I take a baby aspirin every day. I was told that I have Protein S Deficiency.

What happened with you? Did you have a DVT?

Oh and I don't know anything about PhenD but I want to know too.

No problem. I've have 4 possibly 5 DVT's in my right leg. Got the 1st one when I was 19, right after my twins were born(1986). Only had to take coumadin for a year, then got pregnant again and had to do heparin shots twice a day(which caused a miscarriage). I was off coumadin for a long time, then got another DTV in 1999 exactly one month to the day after my son was born. Another DVT in 2003(they think), one in 2004 and scar tissue from a possible 5th one. The last one was in my right groin area where you're leg bends at the hip(so they keep getting higher). I have to have pro-times done every 2-4 weeks for the rest of my life.

Be careful with the baby aspirin. I did that for a year(against the dr's orders) and ended up with another DVT. He informed me that if I ever stopped taking my coumadin again, it will kill me. Guess I'll stay on it.

They've ran every test they can on me(don't ever do the stress test--it hurts like h.ell!) and they still have no idea what causes me to be prone to blood clots.

How are you doing without it? Watch your symptoms and don't ignore them. Coumadin is cheap now that wally world has it on their $4 generic plan.

    Hi Ladies

I began this journey taking PhenD (phendimetrazine). The way that it was explained to me by the physician is that it is simply a milder form of phentermine. I believe that it is in fact the mildest form. I am now taking 1/2 tablet of phentermine 37.5mg daily. Hope this helps.

Thanks! Maybe I'll just stay with the Phen 37.5mg. My dr. never asks about my weight as long as the Phen isn't messing up my coumadin. I've been taking 1/2 in the morning and the other 1/2 in the afternoon to try to curb those afternoon 'bored' snack times.

It's driving me nuts! When I lost 50lbs on it last year, I was doing the 'anorexic' thing...not eating for days and doing 500 stomach crunches a day. Almost tempted to try that again. I stopped taking Phen for 3 months and gained 30 of the 50lbs back. I want to be able to wear the clothes I wore last summer(I hate clothes shopping!).

It's milder? Dang. I started out taking Phen 37.5mg and it didn't work for me. The doc wrote me out a prescription for PhenD 105mg the other day. I'm going today to get it filled. I've heard some other people on here say that it worked better for them than the Phen. I guess it won't hurt to try it and see what it does for me.

I think I already did the stress test - the one where they inject you and it makes you feel very hot and out of breath? I got that done when I was in the hospital for the pulmonary embolism.

I'm doing fine without the coumadin. I've been on baby aspirin for nearly 4 years now. The pulmonary embolism was my only clotting episode. I was on very strong birth control pills at the time and they think that's what contributed to it. Of course, I'll never take bcp again. I'm sad that you had a miscarriage while on heparin injections. I've been told that if I ever get pregnant, I'll definitely have to give myself the injections every day because my risk for clotting will go up.

Nursy Lori, you should be just fine. I was only taking 35mg daily.

Yep, that's the stress test. It was horrible! I was told I'd never be able to carry another baby to term(hence a total of 5 miscarriages over the years). When I got pregnant the last time, we made sure he was where he was supposed to be(in the uterus not the tube), and the doctor asked me if I wanted to do the heparin shots during the pregnancy or not do them and risk getting another clot. I chose NOT to do the heparin again and just took a baby aspirin a day for 9 months. No problems during the pregnancy, but one month to the day of his birth I was back in the hospital with another blood clot. I will NEVER take heparin again! The last time I was in the hospital with yet another blood clot, I did the Lovenox shots. Way more expensive but alot safer.

Hope you don't have anymore problems and get to stay off of coumadin. It s*cks having to get blood taken all the time, watch so you don't bump into anything or cut yourself, can't walk long distances without leg swelling. Sorry I rambled, most people don't understand the whole DVT/coumadin thing.

Ramble away, I understand. Yeah the year that I was on coumadin was no fun at all. Also it really annoyed me that any changes in my diet (like eating more spinach) would result in me having to change the dosage of the medication and being tested every 2 weeks instead of a month. It was scarier to me to be on coumadin than off. I was so paranoid that I would be in a minor car accident or having any minor accident and end up bleeding all over the place. If I just cut myself shaving, I would bleed and bleed. I had to give myself lovenox injections for a month, and about 2 weeks in my stomach was so black and blue it looked like I had been repeatedly kicked in the stomach. I had to start giving myself the injections on my inner thighs.

I pray that I'm able to carry a baby to term. I have no children and I've had one miscarriage.

I know exactly how you feel. My arms have so many 'track' marks that I look like a 'junkie'. In the last 4 years, my blood has only been right 6 times. One time my blood was so thin that just bumping into anything would have caused internal bleeding so I was told to go home, sit in the corner and not move for 2 days when I went back for even more blood work.

Then the 'usual' list of ?'s when you go in: any new bumps, bruises, falls, injuries, shortness of breath, leg pain, blah blah blah. My dr. has finally learned to throw in: Anything that you're going to tell me about. I just say I wouldn't tell you anyway. She'll be excited I have a bruise to show her(ran into the coffee table).

Then along with taking the coumadin and phen, I take xanax for panic attacks, and trazodone to help me sleep. No need for alcohol, my little mix of drugs has the same effect...LOL.

Just a suggestion if/when you get pregnant again: Make them do a sonogram at your first visit. 1)for your peace of mind and 2)cause it will be a 'high-risk' pregnancy.

Anytime. My dr. calls me an 'expert' on DVT's and coumadin since I've been doing it so long..LOL. Where in Oklahoma do you live? You're only a state away, I live outside Joplin, MO. I better get off here and do something around the house(yuck).

You're not far away at all. My son loves going to the zoo there because they have polar bears. I have trouble walking the entire zoo so hubby keeps threatning to get me a motorized cart while we're there. Told him if he did, I'd run him over..lol.

Going to ask the dr. today about the diff. types of phen and see if she thinks a diff. strength might work better. Also going to have her refill my xanax. I was taking that along with the phen last time when I lost 50lbs so maybe that's what I'm doing wrong this time.

Default 2-37.5mg phen tabs is too much!

Hi. I told my NP yesterday about some of the ones on here are taking 2--37.5mg phen tabs a day, and she bout went through the roof. The max dose for that strength is 1 tab once a day. She said taking anymore than that can screw up your body. She confirmed it with the dr.

I told her that the 37.5mg wasn't curbing my appetite anymore so the dr. switched me to Bontril 3x daily(1 tab 30 min. before each meal). Hopefully it works.

Doing some research about the Bontril the dr. put me on, and the PhenD is one of the generic forms of Bontril. Not sure what dose I'm on yet(haven't made it to the Pharmacy), just know it's 3x daily.

I have been thinking about going back to phenD. I am not seeing the results I thought I would see, maybe I should get off my a.s.s. lol. I was losing at least 3lbs a week consistently when I was taking them. The only down side like you mentioned, is having to remember to take the second pill ( in your case 2nd 7 3rd).

More than likely, you will be taking 35mg of Bontril 3x a day. I was told I could either increase the phenD or try phentermine at my last appointment. Let me know how the Bontril works for you.

4 miles is awesome girl! For real...

I started taking phenD last summer...It worked great at first but then stopped working..I kept forgetting to take a second pill..and I had weird side effects like my scalp tingling...I stopped that and in January started taking phentermind and had better luck on that. I think it depends on the individual. The bontril 105mg is time released and taken once a day and I kind of wish I had asked my doctor for that one instead of the 35 mg he gave me......I did't know anything about this stuff at the time though and just did what I was told. When I think back to all the money I spent on it!

Anyway thre's no harm in trying it and now you have exercise on your side too girl! woot woot

Thanks Scat! I'll have to put my pills by my laptop so I'll remember to take them..lol. The Gazelle is so easy to use, doesn't feel like exercise until about an hour later and I try to stand up and my calves don't want me too.

I have a 30-day supply of Phen to fall back on if the Bontril doesn't work...had the Phen refilled the day b4 they changed my script.

You're going to do fine girl...YOu know I think we become too dependent on the meds, and forget that the power to go "home" is all within us...we just have to click our heels together like Dorothy....figures noone told her that until the end of the freaking movie.....bahahhahahahhahahaa....but seriously, you are going to do fine. I am almost at the end (my last refill, doctor said no more) and I am scared crapless girl..for real.
