Default Could it be a Thyroid Problem?

    Hello,

I was just wondering how many phensters have been told that you may have a thyroid problem?

I only ask because my first time on Phen, I only used it for the first month and then I just continued doing what I was and kept dropping weight. This go around, not happening and actually gaining.

A friend of mine is telling me I probably have something wrong with my thyroid mainly because I use to be very thin and even now, never had an appetite. I also have experienced other "thyroid" type problems as well as this being a condition in my family.

Was just wondering what you thought or if anyone else has experienced this?

My Dr had prescribed this medication to me BECAUSE I have hypothyroidism. This medication should help you loose the weight. I was only on this medicaiton for 4 days and then I stopped because I did not like the way that it made me feel, with having heart palpitations and anxiety attacks. I will start it back up since I know what to expect. I also wanted to know if my Dr knew that I have Mitral Valve Prolapse, a heart condiiton, he said that its no problem and thats why he only gave me one month.
How much weight did u loose in the first month that u took this Phen?

    Hi,

The first month when I was on it, I lost 12 pounds. Then I continued to drop weight and all together, I dropped 35 pounds in 6.5 months. I didn't stop exercising but did stop eating my small meals and the weight just bumped right back very quickly.

I started eating the 5-6 small meals a day again about 6 months ago with no phen and haven't dropped, just been gaining and still exercise.

I was just curious since I never thought that maybe I had a Thyroid problem. The acupuncturists I see suggested I see an endo so I get my blood test results tomorrow and then when I went to my internists, she also took blood as she said she feels there is something wrong with my thyroid. Just from giving her my past medical history which was really shocking to me. (I had Pneumonia and had to find a doc hence the new doc and past medical history.)

Its a whole new thing for me so wanted to see if other people have experienced this.

I have hypothyroidism and I am on phen plus my thyroid meds. The phen will affect your weight and make it harder for you to lose weight.. so when you go to the doc just ask them to test your thyroid levels. it is just a blood test and you will know and we will be able get the meds if you need them. But if you have hypothyroidism it is hard to lose weight but if you have hyperthyroidism you cannot gain weight.... so since you lost the weight after phen not sure about the hypothyroidism ... my advice just talk to the doc and hopefully you will get some answers...

I know I let myself gain weight for YEARS and was ashamed to go to the doctor about it because I thought I would be scolded. I felt like I was eating okay and was also getting in a little exercise, but I was gaining so quickly. I did try to lose the weight, but nothing seemed to help.

I finally had to go to the doctor because of other problems, and I learned all of the problems I was having were a result of hypothyroidism.

I am NOT blaming all of my weight gain on my thyroid. I earned my fair share of the weight, but my thyroid being out of whack sure did not help matters.

I take Levoxyl- 1.75 and Phen 30. I had been taking Levoxy for years when I started Phen, but I had neglected my bloodwork for quite some time and had to have my dose adjusted that same day.

If you are hypothyroid, it can make it really difficult to lose weight. I had a family history of it too.

If you turn out to be hypo and they put you on medication, I would think you would start feeling better and losing weight with Phen pretty quickly.

    Best of luck!

If you really feel that you have are hypothyroid, get tested and don't give up! This is why-

I 'knew' that I had a thyroid problem a year before the tests showed that I did. Not only was I gaining weight at a rapid speed (40 pounds in a year- not changing my eating habits- in fact I ate less trying to compensate) but I was tired all of the time, my fingernails/toenails had terrible ridges in them and were kind of crumbly (they wouldn't grow at all). I was constantly cold and my bottoms of me feet hurt so bad when I would stand up- honestly just standing bare foot on the floor cooking dinner would cause me agonizing pain.

I had my doctor test my thyroid- I am a nursing student and an amateur 'medical slueth' and she said my levels were all normal. I was shocked.

Finally, a few months later I went to another doctor who really listened and she tested me again. YES! What I knew all along showed up in my blood test.

I am currently on 75 mcg of synthroid. I'm not at 100% yet, but I can finally lose weight. Before the thyroid meds, I was on phen for two months last year and only lost 2 pounds! After I quit taking it, I gained 8 pounds back-without eating over 1100 calories a day,

Needless to say, I have now lost a total of 18.5 pounds since December (only on phen since January) and feel alot better about myself. Don't give up- it's your health and you know your body better than anyone-even your doctor.

    Hi,

Ok my Thyroid test results came in yesterday and my TSH is at 2.01 and T4 at 1.3.

What I did find out is that I am Vitamin D deficient (like less than 4 was my count when the normal should be above 30) and low in Testosterone and DHEA.

I live in freakin Arizona; how my Vit D can be so low is still a shock to me. So I bought a Vitamin D3 supplement yesterday and started taking it. The Testosterone and DHEA, the doctor is making up a cream for me to use.

After trying these things for a little while, if I still am having trouble with weight loss or feeling fatigued, I was given a few names to other Endo's who DO listen to symptoms and not just judge on the blood work. I was told by my internist at my age, it may not show up in the blood work but because Thyroid disease is in my family, she wants me to just be aware of how I am feeling, etc. Everything you said Jenni, she said

Thank you to everyone who answered my questions. I am still realizing I have to get everything checked out to make sure there isn't another cause and be proactive when it comes to my health.
