I take synthroid. When I was still taking the phen, I would take it an hour after the synthroid. Good luck to you. (nice to know you aren't crazy, huh?)

I take Westhyroid instead of Armour, as I feel like it's a little smoother for me, but Armour works great for a lot of people. I was on Synthroid for years, and never felt quite right. I went through bouts of depression, anxiety, weight gain, etc...only to find out I wasn't being treated correctly. A lot of doctors are incompetent when it comes to treating thyroid. But anyway, I'm glad you found a doctor who prescribes Armour, and that the pounds are flying off! Best of luck to you!

yeah! be very lucky that your dr prescribes Armour!!! i have been hypo for 4 years and have been taking synthroid. ive asked my dr to prescribe me Armour and they refused. he only prescribes the synthetic thyroid hormones-synthroid and levoxyl. i take my syn at night on an empty stomach (w/ my BC)

just recently i became hyperthyroid so, im a little interested to find out why!

rant_s0me, that's so interesting that you went from hypo to hyper. Does your doctor have any idea how that happened? I have never heard of that happening before.

he claimed it was due to me just having baby #3... but, i dont think thats right. im sure that it can happen but, i dont think thats what happened to me. i developed hypothyroidism back in 2003 (a year after my son was born). i never experienced hyper when i was preg w/ #2 so, im not sure how it happened now..

    Lightbulb New to hypothyroidism

I was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism today and was given a prescription for Armour Thyroid medication. Of course, I immediately started doing research to learn more about this condition and the medication I would be taking. My mother also has it and is being treated with Synthroid. And my sister was diagnosed with Graves Disease (hyper) shortly after having her 2nd baby. She ultimately had iodine radiation done to kill her thyroid and is now on Synthroid too.

My question was why was I gien Armour instead of Synthroid, but after reading about the two drugs in medical pages as well as forum opinions, I am happy to be starting on Armour as its a more natural product. Im also going to tell my mom about it because she seems to still suffer from depression, weight gain, irritability and other symptoms that may be indicating that her synthroid might not be the best medication for her. It only treats one part of the thyroid issue and not both, T3 and T4. Armour treats both.

Someone above mentioned that they went from being Hypo to being Hyper. This can happen when you get too much of the medication. I seriously doubt it was from you having a baby, although that can happen because of the amounts of hormones your body creates when you're pregnant. I would seriously consider going to visit a specialist, endocrinologist and having them thoroughly evaluate your condition. It might be you need a different drug.

Just my findings. Hope they help someone. Good luck to all of you with your weightloss.

    Meg

P.S. I recently started on Phentermine, B12 and Lypoden shots, and now Armour Thyroid med. Cant wait to start feeling better and losing weight!
