    Question

Since Ive been slacking on both my diet and exersise, I decided to make a goal for myself and go to Curves 5 days a week (unless I have some sort of plans that take up the whole day).
So do you all think that 5 days a week of strength training/cardio is to much? At Curves they tell you 3 times a week is enough, and to split the days up so your muscles have time to heal. But I really need to get my butt in gear, and I figured 2 whole days, which would be saturday and sunday, would give my muscles a good break and time to heal or whatever. What do all of you think?

It depends on what muscles you are working. Try to do arms and chest one day, legs and bootie another and then that way each group of muscles gets a day off. Or do Curves Mon, Wed, Fri then walk on Tues and Thurs just to get your cardio. You can do cardio every day, you don't need a break from that. Although I still take one day off a week! Good luck and I know you will do great!

Well at Curves you go on a circuit, so you have to work almost every muscle of your body. As for cardio, in between each machine at Curves there is sqaures where you do cardio, by either jogging or walking in place, or other aerobic type exerises.
I dont care for cardio to much, thats why I cant wait until it gets warmer so I can go swimming, Ill be swimming laps every single day!!! lol.
I dont know what to do until then, thats why I think I should probobly just go to Curves 5 days a week. I dunno!!

Hey pj. First off, I want to say that you're doing great! I've been to Curves before and I remember that it works every muscle group, that is why they say split it up. IMO, this might be too much for 5 straight days because your muscles don't have time to recover. They need time in between workouts, not just taking the weekend off. Cardio is okay to do daily but strength training on the same muscle groups should not be done daily. Like estrella said, if you want to strength train 5 days a week (I do) it is better to alternate muscle groups so one muscle group has a day of rest while you are working the other. Do you go to curves when it's busy? I remember the one I went to would let you repeat certain machines if it wasn't busy. Maybe you could use the machines for your upper body one day, then lower body the next, then abs/back, and keep alternating like that. If that doesn't work, maybe Curves 3 days and just take short walks (15-20min) on the other days until you can build up to longer walks? I don't think many people really LIKE cardio, I know I don't...but it has to be done. Just some suggestions. Hope this helps you sweetie.

lovnlife, thanx for the reply. Im probobly going to take your suggestion and do certain machines on certain days, unless they are busy a certain day. As for walking, I walk a lot, but its so boring unless your with someone, and I dont have anyone to walk with. So oh well, but yeah I do walk.
    Thanx again for the info!

You know what works best for you pj but I have a suggestion for the walking since you said you already walk alot.

Do you have headphones or an ipod? Walking was really boring for me too until I starting using my ipod. I read somewhere that you are Christian right? I sometimes use my walking time as a time to give praise or just focus on Christ. I have a playlist on my ipod called worship and it has all my favorite christian songs. Honestly, when I'm listening to this playlist, alot of times I forget about the walking and end up walking longer than I intended too. I don't have anyone to walk with either but since I walk with Christ...well that just about says it all doesn't it. Just a suggestion...Take Care

I've read somewhere that it is safe to work your abs everyday, but to rest a day in between other body parts. Just like lovnlife said...try the upper body, lower body routine..

I personally work everything at least 3 times a week at my Body Pump class at Gold's Gym. We do everything! Each song is a body part...the sequence goes like this...

    Warm-up
    Squats
    Chest
    Back
    Triceps
    Biceps
    Lunges
    Shoulders
    Abs

    Hope this helps!

I read somewhere -- not sure if it was "Diane" (the Curves magazine) or the monthly newsletter "my" Curves puts out, that they recommend 3 times/ week, but if you want to go more, on the 2nd & 4th days, don't work your body as hard on the machines and try to do a little more cardio on the recovery station. HOpe this helps!

My boyfriend buys something at GNC that helps repair the muscles super-quick so that he can work-out everyday. He used it when he was lifting daily and said that it helped with the soreness also. Anyways, it might have been LeanFuel? Not sure, but the employees would know for sure. Just tell them you what you are looking for. It would be better for you if you are going to do it 5 days in a row. Probably would help keep you from getting hurt. Just a thought.

I have it deducted directly from my bank account, so I get a few $ off, which is nice because CT charges sales tax on gym memberships , and my monthly payment is (without checking the account...) $31 and change per month. The woman I work with pays by check each month and she pays just over $40/month.
