I take metformin, 1500mg a day, one with breakfast and two at bedtime. As for how it makes you feel, uh, well it's not pretty at first. It made me feel gassy at first and oddly enough, the only time that I felt sick was when I was eating something really greasy or when I tried to drank wine (against lable orders). The good news for me with metformin was that I did start to lose a bit of weight (about 10lbs.), and then I started to follow South Beach diet principles. For me, it works because I wasn't getting enough veggies and after talking to a nutritionist I found out that I was eating a lot more sugar and starch than I was aware of.

Hope this helps Rebecca. What's been your experience on it so far?

well, when i took it, i was really nauseous and could hardly eat anything. i didnt follow the SBD to a tee so maybe that is why it was so bad. i used to throw up and everything like i was pregnant. im not sure if i lost much weight. i dont think i tried it with the phen. i was taking 1500mg and i took them like how you take them. my doctor prescribed 2000 but i noticed that when i did take 2000mg, i didnt ov and my cycle didnt come for that month.

i think i may start again, but i try to eat alot better while im on it.

    thanks for replying.

I'm taking Metformin (Fortamet extended-release tablets) 1000 mg twice a day (in the morning, before bed). I have been on this for almost a year and I was on regular Metformin for almost a year before I started with these, so I really don't get sick from the medication anymore. My endocrinologist wanted me to start on these because since they're time-released, the side effects should be less. I really didn't notice any difference.

Get the extended release, I never know why they dont prescribe that first anyway. The upset stomach is sooo commmon but the extended release helps some.

Just curious here, but to the ladies that are taking metformin, may I ask why? For me, my doc is an endocrinologist and he said they'd help with PCOS and fertility.
