Random Drug Testing

Hi All!

Just wanted to share my experience today and maybe spare someone some trouble...I work for a fairly large company run by a good friend of mine. We have a spin-off company that does mobile health testing and drug testing for different companies in the area. Guess what? We had surprise drug testing today. Yup all 100 employees got to pee in a cup. Yup, phentermine causes a positive result for amphetimines. I told my boss about the phen and he said no problem, he just need to see the bottle and have the medical review board call the prescribing doc. Hmmm, that might be a problem since I got them online. I am hoping that he takes into consideration that I'm not one of "those" people that caused him to do the testing in the first place and that I was honest with him.

I don't think I will lose my job, but for those of you that might someday find yourself in a similar situation, you might want to either make sure you have a "real" doc prescribe your phen or not take it at all.

Whatever you chose to do, be informed about the drug policy at your workplace.

What a pain huh? I've seen the question brought up several times asking if it will show in drug testing. There have always been differing opinions. I guess now we know huh?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Show them the bottle and they can spend however many hours on the phone trying too speak directly to the Doctor. None of that is your problem, because it's still a prescribed medication.

You could always stop taking the Phen, and if they push the issue demand a re-test. Which they would probably do before considering termination. Losing your job for taking a prescription could turn into a legal problem for the Company. Doesn't matter if it's online or not, unless the Company policy states that and how could they restrict someones choices.......It's legal to order online.

Hmm...I had a pre-employment screening last month and worried for a week on whether phen would show. I've been on since March but it didn't show up. In any case, phen and meth show up differently and are easily distinguished from each other.

Amy, Glad to hear that. I have to agree.....whether urine or blood test it must show up different. At least protocol should require another type of testing when disputed.

I know it works differently because I still have all my teeth and no desire to wear a tube top !

I am having a pre-employment drug test today actually. It will be interesting to see if it shows up. I will of course take my bottle in with me, and let them know that I am taking it. I dont see where there should be a problem, as it is prescribed by my Dr. I will let ya all know!!

Thanks for all of the responses. Just thought I'd give you an update.

My biggest problem was that the prescription wasn't mine, it was my hubby's (who happens to also work for the same company and also tested positive). I told that to my boss/friend and he said that his concern was my health. He said that the medical review doc is going to call all "positives" and go over things with them, get doctor's names, etc. He said that I could tell him it was my hubby's meds, stop taking it and re-test or get my own legit. prescription, but the choice was up to me. He said I wasn't going to be fired, he was just concerned about my health and wants to make sure I'm okay to take this.

I talked it over with my hubby and I decided to get my own meds which should be arriving tomorrow. As long as my name is on the bottle, there should be no problem.

As for those of you who have been taking Phen and haven't tested positive, there are many differenct drug screenings out there. This particular one looked for 7 drugs, legal and illegal. (there was marijuana, opiates, barbituates, amphetemines, cocaine and I can't remember the other 2)

I thought I would give you all an update. I had a pre employment test on friday. Well, I didnt get the job unfortunatly. They wouldnt even test me when I told them that I was taking phen. The Arizona state board of nursing I guess wont even accept it even with a dr's prescription. From what I understand, I cant be taking this and working on the floor with patients...I was really bummed, but my health and weight loss is really important to me. They said when I am not taking it anymore, I can re apply, they will keep my file. So until then, I will look for something else.

I'm not sure they can do that with a legit prescription. . . you should really look into that.

Wow, that sounds crazy! Thank you for letting us all know that it could be an issue though.

Also, big kudos to you for putting your health and weight loss first... isn't that how we all have gotten to where we are, by putting everything else ahead of it? Good for you!!
