are they worth the weight loss?

It really depends on the individual. Personally, I do not have any side effects except for dry mouth and restlessness. So........... for me, the weight loss is worth it.
how much have you lost so far?
how much have you lost so far?
I have lost 16 pounds so far.... I started 2 months ago. I haven't been working out but plan to start soon which will help speed up the progress. Phentermine has reduced my appetite 100%. I used to eat constantly and now, I never think about food! I am 5'4" and weighed 161 and now I weigh 145. My goal weight is to get to 125.
I am thinking about ordering some. I don't think my doctor will give it to me, but I could try that too. Wow I don't know what it would be to not think about food. I obsess about it. I think about what I will eat for dinner when I wake up for breakfast.
The worst side effect for me is the tiredness when I cycle off phen - it feels like my limbs are made of lead and I'm not interested in doing anything except sleep!! Unfortunately, I tend to eat carbohydrate-rich foods in an attempt to get moving, which undos much of the weight loss.
I know other people here have that same problem, from reading through some of the threads - can anyone recommend a way to combat this? Any help would be really appreciated!
Darlene - one of the things you need to be wary of on the phen is that you must force yourself to eat, otherwise your metabolism plummets and the scale will hardly move, even though you eat almost nothing all day. Having said that, its great to help establish healthy eating habits, since you're not always fighting with yourself to not have one more cookie!!

ChristianGirl, we're the same height, start weight and goal weight! And we're right around the same spot, too! Kinda neat. I just started working out this week to hopefully speed up the process a bit.
As far as side effects, I battle insomnia anyway, so on the Phen it's even worse. But I figure I can sleep when I'm thin again, what's a few months of rotten sleep compared to getting my life back?

Actually, today I'm going to start the 5-HTP, there's folks here who say that has helped them sleep better.
Dry mouth is good for me, cause it makes me drink more water!
I did not experience the extreme tiredness that others have when I've gone off the Phen, I guess I'm lucky.
If your doctor won't prescribe, it still might be a good idea to go for a good checkup, and make sure you have no issues with blood pressure, etc.. Maybe tell the doc you are going to take it anyway, and ask if there are any issues that you should watch out for.

I have not had any side effects, except for having absolutly no appetite.. I drink a ton of water every day. I have to force myself to eat. I have been on it for about three months with only a three day break a month ago.
Good luck to you!
3/23/06 started phen
I've been on it for a few days. The dry mouth isn't really that bad, it just makes you want to drink more water, which is good anyway.
As far as forcing yourself to eat goes...this is definately true. I'm still having to get used to that. Today I've been up for almost 5 hours and have been working outside the whole time and hadn't eaten anything, just drank a lot of water. Well I just got out of the shower and was feeling so languid and crappy and I figure that's because I hadn't eaten so I just had some cereal and it's already making me feel better.
So basically, make yourself eat at least 3 times a day, but since your appetite will be almost nothing, you can easily control how much you eat. My problem is I always try to finish the plate, or whatever, and I'm hoping to use the phen to end that habit.
Ive been concerned about being on it and going off. How long can you be on it and then go off?
