I just started phentermine, I am a diabetic, I wanted to know if anyone out there has taken actos before, and how does it work with phentermine. I wanted to try Glucophage but my doctor says he did not want to put me on it. Has anyone heard of ACTOS? Your response is appreciated.

I take 15mg a day of Actos. This is only my 5th day on Phen. I stopped being really hungry after day 1. I still get hungry but a little food, maybe a slice of cheese and a radish will quiet my hunger until my next meal. I eat a lot of salad and broccoli with turkey. I am lo-carbing it, by the way. Actos is supposed to be good because wit will never cause your blood sugar to plumet. Keeps you more level. My blood sugar is pretty much under control now. My fasting sugar before I take my meds is right at 100. Still high, but under control.

Thansk for your response, Does Actos make you gain weight? My sugar too is under control, it is about 82, but I also take cinnamon pills, and the alpha lipoic acid, about two months when I was diagnosed with diabetes, it was 169 fasting. I really need to loose the weight, I'm 5'5" and weight 210, I need to loose at least 30 pounds, My doctor put me on Glipizide but it was making me sick. Let me know how you do on Actos. Thanks

I do not know if the Actos made me gain weight but SOMETHING did. I was at 240 when I started Actos in March of 2005. Because I was diagnosed with diabetes, I went on a major diet, the Medifast plan. I got down to 219 very rapidly. After off and on for a month, I couldn't stay on Medifast. Within a year I was at 260. So I gained my 20 pounds and then 20 more. I am on a lot of other meds too. I am now down to 252 after less than a week on Phen.

Hi! Actos is a fairly new drug for non insulin dependent diabetics, usually given along with another drug like Glucophage or Glipizide. Believe it or not.....it actually aids in weight loss! This was not an intended effect for this med. It was noticed after researching persons taking the med, effectiveness, etc that many all experienced weight loss. This info is from my medical journals, try to Google actos and see what you find.
P.S. It also works well controlling sugar

That was not my experience but I am glad it helped so many others. I was also on a drug for my depression called Topomax which was clinically shown to promote weight loss. Nada. Zip. Didn't happen for me!

Okay, I took actos for maybe 6 weeks and my ankles and calves were swollen so bad that I could barely put my shoes on. I had to untie them and losen them completely. My normal ankle size is so small I can wrap my thumb and middle finger around it and touch lol.

I asked my friend who is a nurse took a look at my legs and she gasped and was pressing on them in different places and it would leave deep dents in my skin and take forever to pop back out. She called this 3 plus pitting edema. I freaked out and immediately quit taking it.

I went to the Doctor the next Monday morning and told her that my legs were swelling really bad and she was very non-chalant about it and then I said "a nurse told me I have 3 plus pitting edema" and she says "oh, yeah, let's take you off the actoplus-met and put you back on the plain glucophage". Gahhh!

Anyways, I wasn't taking Phen then but that was MY experience with Actos.
