any problems there? I read on another message board that it can negate the effectivness of "the pill." I think this may be a lie, because I have never seen that or read that, and the person was discouraging someone from trying phen.

    Thanks...

Thanks for the responses. I didn't think so. I mean, I would think that would be a "biggie" on the section about drug interactions, ya know?

Thanks again...my phen should be arriving today and I am excited and a little nervous.

Wow guys-I don't know. All I know is that many gals who were on phen have gotten preggo-Casinogirl (twice-and I think she was on the pill), Monifa, JustMarried are the ones that come to mind. I would ask your doc. Also they say it is easier to get preggo when you are thinner so that may really be it. Not sure.

Just be careful. I told my hubby if he knocked me up now I would kick his a s s! I finally have a decent body for the first time in 34 years and I plan to keep it that way .

Plus I hear kids are expensive and I am too fond of shopping!

I've been on yasmin for a few years now and I've been taking phen on and off for about 6 months. Everythings been fine with taking them together. Maybe it depends on what kind of birth control it is? Some may have a different reaction with the drug. Hope that helps, but of course nothing is guaranteed.

Let's not forget, lovelybones and sexymotogirl. They too are pregnant. I became pregnant while on phen. This topic has been covered numerous times. I'm sure a search could shed some light on your concerns. It definetely is not a 'lie' and I'm thinking the poster you speak of was maybe trying to give you a headsup.

I just went to my gyno doctor on Friday and she didn't say anything about Phen making the b/c pill less effective. She gave me a new one to try that has a little diuretic (sp?) so I don't gain so much water weight during my cycle. I know for sure that antibiotics affect your birth control, but I've never had a doctor tell me that Phen affects it.

But were all the people that got pregnant while taking phen on the pill? I think sexymotorgirl said she had stopped taking the pill and I think in chat Casino said she wasn't on it either...if I remember correctly. I have asked this question before and never got any responses from anyone who got pregnant taking phen WHILE on the pill.

Let's bump it again to see if we get any responses.

I would call my local pharmacist, they are much more knowledgeable than Dr's when it comes to medications.

I asked my pharmacist, and she both said that phen does not affect birth control.

However, being overweight DOES. Apparently, if you are as much as 10 lbs. over the "normal" range, your body processes the chemicals differently. And if you are 20- 30 lbs. overweight, birth control can be uo to 50% LESS effective.
My pharmacist says that it can be worse with low dose pills. I take "the ring" Nuvo Ring, and my pharm said to use a back up if I want.

What I want to know is WHY NO ONE SAID ANYTHING TO ME BEFORE?

Or maybe everyone is just getting more action after they lose the weight?

I read about that in a reputable place (which now I don't remember) and it scared the hell out of me. But, fortunately, I have been overweight and on the pill for the last 3 or 4 years with no pregnancies.

I think phen does do something to make your hormones wacky and possibly more fertile...DO NOT GET SCARED BUUUTTTTT...... I had a 10 year IUD in place since my son was 4 months old. When he was 5 I started phen for just 3 WEEKS and got pregnant! The docs were dumfounded and told me straight out there was no way I shoulda been pregnant! The IUD was still in place and had a "failure rate" of less than 1% and that was for those people whose IUD would unknowingly get displaced. Mine was in place and had nothing wrong. They even sent it to the lab to see if it was defective after they removed it. There was no probs at all. I was nicknamed the miracle child lol. And it didnt have anything to do with weight loss because I had only lost 4 pounds was still extremely overweight (40 pounds). I was a "normal" weight for my other 3 babies so like I said if anything me being heavier should have been more a deterrent to getting pregnant. So who knows?? I have a beautiful 21 month old now who drives me crazy and I truly believe the phen helped in getting him here. I tell people I have the first Mexican American president here LOL. If you want more info or have ?'s feel free to PM me! Good luck!!

No, Phen does NOT decrease the effectiveness of the Pill. But yes, it is true that the Pill is not as effective for people over 155 lbs.

I just switched bc pills to Yasmin...not the new YAZ. My doctor advised me against the low dose pills because he said ANY other medications can negate its effectiveness. I trust him so I am sticking to the regular bc pills!

-^-That's not true. Not that I think that I know more than a doctor, but I have heard people say many wacky things about birth control that doctors tell them. Seriously, aside from certain antibiotics and some St. John's Wort supplements, most medication do not decrease the effectiveness of the Pill. Are you over 155 lbs? Maybe that's why he didn't want to put you on a lower dose pill.
