I know this is completely off-topic, but I'm wondering if anyone has some advice....

I have a cat...kind of a kitten(his name is Monster ...he's 11 months old. Well, he keeps getting stuck in the trees in our backyard! He climbs way up there, then cries cause he cant get down. He's done this SEVERAL times over the past few weeks. Fortunately, so far we've been able to get him down as he's dangling from a branch before he falls and gets hurt. (he doesn't just stay on the main part of the tree...he likes to get out on those really thin branches too and then barely can hold on!) Unfortunately, he never seems to learn his lesson and I know eventually he wont be so lucky. He is impossible to keep inside all the time, he just goes nuts and as soon as you open the door he will sneak by me and dart outside. So, does anyone know if theres something I could do like maybe something to put around the tree trunks to keep him from climbing. I want to keep him safe and need some ideas.
Thanks!

oh my!

Well, i just adore cats! i have three inside cats. and they are a complete part of the family! kittens are crazy little boogers! i totally know what you mean.. we have had our fair share of *side-hoping*, tree climbing cats!

i have seen alot of people putting "tin" around the base of the trees! But! it's gotta be high enough.. cuz, cats CAN juMp!! LOL

otherwise, if it's a male.. get him fixed!
same goes with a female!
then they won't give a flip about OUTside!

good luck!

Have you tried hanging something that makes a noise like tin cans, a bell or something near the bottom of the tree? I know my cat would get freaked out by the sudden noise and not want to go near it.

Thanks texasmom and nanakitoo Maybe I'll go to home depot and see if I can find some tin or something and try that. Texasmom---he's already neutered...I thought that that would calm him down a bit but it hasn't really! lol He has kitty friends from next door that he plays with when he goes outside, except they are smart enough to not get stuck in trees all the time

Deffinately use the tin. We have used stove pipe collars and My honey cut some to fit. It depends on the size of the tree. Just remember to take some pliars and bend up the edges so he doesn't get cut. And the birds like to rest on it especially since we throw bird seed on the top. We have a small hook on the top side so we can take it off easy and trim as the tree grows.

Well, when our cats have climbed the trees they usually figure out a way down after a while. I was leaving for work one morning and saw Samson on top of the house as I was driving away (he was still a teenager then). I didn't have time to get him down, nor was I planning on climbing on top of our house. When I came home from work, he was sleeping on the bed (we have a dog door). Left to their own devices, they usually find a way down.
