I found out yesterday all of my health problems are from being hypoglacemic and having vitamin B12 defiecency anemia. Does anyone have either of these? I am just curious to what kind of diet I will be on. I am going to have to get B12 shots once a month and be put on meds but I see my doctor later this week. It explains a lot of the fatigue I have, neurological disorders, inability to lose weight. It has been a rough 6 months of going through tests. My original family doctor led me to believe it was MS. I had everything done under the sun and have seen tons of doctors/specialists. With all of that-no one did any blood work. I saw a new doc and requested to have a complete blood workup and have my thyroid checked. I guess there are times that you have to take over with doctors. So, everything will soon be better

Did your doctor tell you which form of hypoglycemia you have? Reactive or Fasting? Treatment and diet etc. will vary depending on which type. What was your blood sugar reading when you had the blood workup done. Was it a fasting blood test?

I don't have hypoglycemia, but I am an insulin dependent diabetic and do suffer from hypoglycemia (hypos) at times. Although different diseases, the hypos I suffer as a diabetic cause the same problems, fatigue, headaches, difficulty losing weight etc etc. I'm no expert, far from it, however I have been a diabetic for a long time and have read a lot of books and done a lot of researching over the years so if I can help you answer any questions until you see your doctor again, feel free to ask. PM me if you would rather.

I don't really know much about it either. I thought being hypoglycemic meant you were a diabetic. I'm glad it's not something more serious like MS, but it's never good news to hear you have a life-long condition to deal with. Good luck and keep us posted.

Well, I had just a complete blood work up, the nurse didn't tell me level or anything yet. I go Friday for my B-12 injection and for the doctor to further explain everything. I do have to clarify that I was told my blood sugar was low so I guess I am just assuming the hypoglycemia. I have to go Saturday for the fasting glucose test. YUCK! So, I will know more Friday. Thanks!!!

Damn. Pressed "Add Reply" by mistake.

If your dr confirms you are hypoglycemic ask him what kind? Reactive or Fasting.

Current research is of the opinion that Fasting Hypoglycemics can actually have an episode triggered by undertaking the fasting glucose test.

Kristen - many people think that only diabetics suffer from hypoglycemia. However it is actually a disease all on its own. Just not terribly well known although I understand it is a problem suffered by many.

ausgirl, how long have you had diabetes and are you on the insulin pump?

Hubby is Type one, was diagnosed at the age of 15, he is now 38. He was taking 4 shots a day and almost 3 years ago, got on the insulin pump. It has changed our lives dramatically, I no longer want to leave him because of his mean streaks and his sugar levels are staying steady. His A1C stays right around 7.3.

Bigboned girl. I have had Hypoglycemia since I was 16. My diet hasn't changed, I just know what I have to do when my sugar drops. Just make yourself aware of the Signs and Symptoms and take care of yourself and your weight. Alot of times, having Hypoglycemia is a preceptor and will set you up to become a Type 2 Diabetic, not always, but if you do the research and read up on it, you will see the research has been done.

Hi Nursietobe33 - No, not on insulin pump. Would love to be as I have heard amazing things about them but unfortunately they are still really expensive down here. Well the consumables anyway. It is getting better as they become more popular. I also take four injections a day. Yuk! PMO. Also taking Actos - new tablet to help people on insulin use it more effectively. Works really well - A1C went from 12.9 in October to 6.5 in January. Yay. But overall it ****s as on injections I do find it hard to keep my levels steady.

I have been diagonised with Hypo, and my doctor told me to limit my intact on starchy carbs. Eat good cards, but limit, white bread, flour, corn, lima beans, anything that turns to sugar. I can tell when my attacks are coming on, I start this sweating (cold) over my whole body, I mean drentched sweat, shaking, can't think, and eating something like a coke or orange juice, brings me back to reality. Take care of yourself. Don't take my advice over your doctors.
