Question
A few people have mentioned I could get my clothes altered. I talked with a good friend of mine who went from 198 to 148. She said she didn't even bother with getting clothes altered because it was costly, and she was happy about getting new clothes in a new size. I don't plan on getting any of my clothes altered (although I have a wonderful aunt that's a seamstress). I really do love some of the suits that I have, and the ones that I still wear, I just put a big ole safety pin in the waist (starting to look a little ridiculous now). Using a safety pin is my idea of altering. I'm actually looking forward to a new wardrobe (in a much smaller size). I know I will be able to find someone to give my suits to. Hmph. I may even be able to give them away to a nice lady here.

So, did you get your clothes altered or buy new clothes?

I know I need to get a few new basic pieces for work real soon (like this coming weekend).

I bought new clothes, but still kept some pieces of "fat" clothes that I really loved that could still be worn even though they were too big, like sweaters. I did have one beautiful pale silk suit I wish I had altered (ah hmmm...had it even crossed my mind at the time to do that) because I loved it.

My suggestion is to alter the things that are worth the money (like good quality suits). Then get rid of the other things that are too big and not worth altering. Go out and shop like Princess S says!!! It makes you feel great! I have been in this situation before and can not wait to be in it again... Have fun!

I agree with M_chelle... anything designer, or high quality fabric should be altered, any nice clothes that you have accessories and shoes to match too, just to cut down on the cost of replacing your wardrobe. I have been told though that if you are ALOT smaller than you were, it is hard to take some designs in to a smaller size, and still keep the overall look of the outfit. So maybe for stuff like that you can just have the skirts or the pants altered and find new tops for them or vice versa... I am not a seamstress, I can barely MEND a seam without 20 yards of thread, so I am not sure.

But overall, you shouldnt deny yourself the pleasure of buying smaller clothes!! Happy shopping!!!

The problem is, all of my work clothes are high quality. If I get anything altered, it will be some of my favorite suits. I know there's a consignment shop in my area. I could go there and get some money for them (since I don't do the website where one bids on stuff).

I know a few basic pieces will get me by for a little while. Oh how I look forward to buying new clothes in smaller sizes! WooooHoooo.

Hey Alexis, you can donate the suits to this organization for women that helps other women who need them. Not sure, but maybe you can write it off on your taxes? Anyhow, girl, I agree with Princess, get out there and shop your tail off. There's bargains all over the place.

Congrats girl!!
