OKay well I am sitting here at work looking out the window , right directly across the steet is Wendys, about 20 feet to the left of that is chinese and diagonally to my right is Mcdonalds..Inbetween there is a sub shop, sounds crazy huh , but I work about 3 miles from the beach in a tourist area. My question is has anyone figured out what is the best on the menu at these places..We dont have a fridge at my work because it broke about a month ago and we are supposed to be getting a new one. Lately for lunch I have been getting the ceaser side salad 99 cents with a small fruit cup and a large diet lemonade. But I am sort of stuck with Wendys because I dont know if there is anything on the menu at these other places that is diet.. Anyone eat fast food at lunch or with thier kids?? I also do go to the sub shop for salad.. but I have been eating so much salad I feel like a rabbit... LOL... just thought there might be a few good suggestions out there???????????

Go to the sub shop and get a 6" turkey on whole wheat bread, and load it with veggies! Skip the mayo, and go with mustard. Think about Jared @ subway!

Chineese---ooh chineese my weakness. You can do nothing good there.

McD's - they have some pretty good salads, but the newman dressings will kill ya.

the chinese places here have a tiny diet menu. they don't use corn starch and things like that. basically you get steamed vegetables with shrimp or something. you can also get all the sauce it comes in on the side and dip your bite or fork rather than have it drenched in it. i do the wendy's ceasar salad thing all the time!!

Subway....

I do atkins, and their wraps are good.
Chicken bacon ranch.....
or bring in a lunch when you go to work, and eat it outside.
There is a grocery store two blocks from my office and I have a fresh salad every day from thier salad bar. Since I make it I know that I'll like it.
Good luck, and be strong....Burgers bad....bikini good...

I LOVE the grilled chicken ceasar salad from McDonalds. The ceasar dressing that comes with it only has 190 calories..CAN'T BEAT THAT. Honestly, I'm addicted to those darn salads.

I go to a doctor that also has an in-house nutritionist, and the nutritionist told me to stay away from Subway. (And I love Subway!) She pointed out that a sub is about 85% bread which equals mega-carbs! Now, I'm not on Atkins, and she wasn't recommending Atkins, but she does suggest reducing carbs. I must say, though, that the alternative she recommended was way better! She suggested Wendy's. She said to go for a small chili (which is amazingly tasty, plus it's low fat and high fiber!) and a burger of some sort, but with only half the bun (again, to reduce carbs). So, now, when I'm at Wendy's, I get my burger and take the top bun off and toss it. I also get their mandarin orange cup for dessert. You can do all of this from their extra value meal, and you've got a great, healthful (for fast food, anyway) lunch for $3!!

I've also discovered that Wendy's has one of the best websites for nutritional info. You can pick and choose items, and piece together your meal, and it will tell you the total nutrition info for the meal. It's much cooler than it sounds based on my description. Also, because of this info, I made the decision to opt for their chicken grill sandwich (without the top of the bun) instead of a burger, since it saves a bunch of the calories and a ton of the fat! It's obviously not on the 99 cent menu, but it is tasty.

Jeannie-

When I was doing Weight Watchers I was introduced to a web site that I could now not live without. Google DWLZ. She has restaurant menus (and you will find just about any that want to inquire about unless they are stictly local to your area). In addition to listing to weight watchers points, it lists the calories - fat for most all of them. I ALWAYS refer to her website when contiplating where to go to get something to eat. I also printed out the places I go to more frequently!

If you have time - there is alot of other usefull information on her site!

Yeah, I do love Subway, and I know it's pretty dang good for you, but if you're trying to lower your carbs, it's certainly not the best of options.

Oh dear! What have they done to Chinese food over there? OMG - are those cook Chinese? Basically Chinese food are not deep fried... only stirred fried. Hmmm... maybe they need to "modify" their style to the taste buds to their customers!

We usually have steam fish, stirred fried vegs (garlic + a little oil), soup (clear and double boiled). Normal meal like this will be around 350 calories?... Geee

Salad is good, but I usally gets hungry after an hour.

I LOVE Arby's Market Fresh turkey sandwich...thought it was healthy until I found a site with tons of data about nutrition [http://www.nutritiondata.com/]....720 calories for a turkey sandwich...ouch. I haven't found a great eating out solution. Subway turkey 6" is only between 2-300 calories..not bad. I rip the white part out of the bread to keep the carbs down!

Now Chinese....worth every fat, carb, calorie...yummy.

THANKS Phen guy, I think I am going to try the chili at wendys today, I just wasnt sure if it was fattening.. I love thier chili too. You gave me some great suggestions.I look at it like this, I think its great to know what one person eats for take out because being a mom and having kids you are often put in the position of eating at a fast food joint, I thought it would be fun to see who eats what and where , that way next time you were stuck in the position you would say " hey I remember so and so ate that I want to try it" not just cave and say oh well Ill just have the Big Mac..LOL Thanks everyone

I stay away from Subway simply because it is so extremely high is sodium. I'm a big fan of stopping at grocery stores that have salad/fruit bars and making my own mix. They usually have soups to choose from too and it is just as quick as driving though.
