    Angry

I live with four people (Parents and neice and Nephew). It's like living in the house of "Little Debbie" meets "Hamburger Helper". I buy my own healthy food and it get taken and eaten and made unhealthy. I can't seem to win either way. I talk to them and they are completely ignorant and selfish. They say buy your own food, so I do, then they eat it. The sad part is I'm starting to get very angry and want to start critisizing them and labeling them, when I use to be that way. Kind of like smokers (I use to smoke, so I try not to judge them because I know how it is). It's the same analogy.
They're junk food junkies and I can't loose weight and change my life being around them.
It's not just a matter of food. Money, time, and work all come into play with trying to change my life, and they just make it harder and almost impossible it seems.
    Any thoughts would be helpfull.
    God Bless
    Kelly

Do you think it would be cheaper overall to buy the food right before you prepare and eat it ? Usually that's more expensive than buying groceries in bulk, but in your case if people are eating your food it might actually be cheaper to buy as you eat.

It's awful when people are sabotaging you, whether intentionally or unintentionally. I love my parents, but when I was a child and suffering from weight problems, they used to buy and keep in the house all sorts of sweets and junk food which they were able to eat in very small amounts with no problem but I gobbled up like there was no tomorrow. It wasn't until I was in high school that I begged my mother to lock it in a file cabinet !

gosh this is a hard one.....I feel you on the family eating badly.....Freeze everything, it takes more effort to defrost everything....Also, don't think I am weird but seriously right now in my car I have a bag of almonds, dried fruit,a box of those south beach diet bars AND an apple.....that is my stash place...otherwise my 4 year old is eating my $6 box of South beach bars instead of eating her granola bars pretty much just because they are mommy's and hubby is munching on almonds when he has a million other snack choices in this house.....and that way I never have to cheat when I am heading somewhere "toxic" I just munch in the car and I am fine....and it keeps alot of my stuff out of sight
You know the saying out of sight out of mind right?!?!

I know exactly what you mean.

My parents house is loaded down with little debbie & various other forms of junk food. I beg her not to buy it.. but she does anyway (and my dad is diabetic! ugh).

I told her I won't be going over there to visit for the rest of the Summer because it is sabotaging my dieting efforts. It hurt her feelings.. but she's hurting my waistline.

Excellent idea V. I hate it when the family eats my food just because they want a snack and are too lazy to get something else! Short of moving out, I would suggest keeping food in your car. Can you hide some things in your bedroom? The stuff that doesn't need to be refrigerated. How about a dorm frige in your room for the cold stuff? Or would they come in and take it? A padlock? Seriously, I'd think about your own frige. Or as suggested, freeze what you can, just make sure you plan for yourself so that you can get it defrosted and made when you need it. Nothing worse than it being mealtime and everything is frozen. Good luck.

I think this thread exemplifies the problem with the general view of people with weight problems.

I seriously doubt that if a person had any other kind of problem that required special diet that family members would be so careless or antagonistic. I doubt if I had suffered from diabetes as a child that my parents would have kept out in the open and allowed me to gobble up mass quantities of sugary junk food !

There is a prevalent socially acceptable disprespect of the overweight, that we aren't overweight because we have a medical problem and need help, we are overweight simply because we are lazy gluttons who refuse to empoy our willpower.

It's important to take control of the situation. Amanda, I applaud you for taking a stand. Kelly, I truly hope that you can figure out a way to get what you need ... you deserve to be treated with respect.

(I'm holding myself back. This issue really pisses me off !)

thanks. Sometimes it helps to just know that I'm not alone. I'm getting my own apartment Augest 1st and this is one of the reasons. I told them that. I finally had good cholesterol/tryglycerides labs and it's going down because they don't respect my choices. I guess they can't see my arteries being clogged so what do they care.
    Thanks I will keep reading.

well congrats on getting your own place! Just think.....9 more days ok? Then it's home free on the healthy eating ways....ok well it's a good start. I said the same thing, but somehow the snack stuff found it's way into my pantry. LOL. My bf is a junk food king....he thinks he's being helpful by suggesting fast food or pizza so that I don't have to cook after a long day of work!! My best friend bought me a magnet as a bday joke...tell me this wasn't a great joke! I put it on my fridge and I point to it when he makes those suggestions!

The first thing that came to mind was getting a dorm fridge...like others have suggested. What a chore for you, however, as you are trying to "better" yourself and others cannot see that..or take a hint (?).
It is nice you will be moving out on your own, soon. A bit over a week, huh? Good for you. That will obviously make things much easier. In the meantime, keep up the good work. I liked your pics as I checked 'em out. You have will power, and that is evident!!!

I like the dorm fridge idea...you could keep it in your bedroom.
I also live in a house with the same junk food people. Of course they never gain any weight with it. I first had a discussion...let them know that what Im doing is very important and that I am required to only eat certain foods, that would be happy to share a taste. I also buy my food for a week and on Sundays I make all of my lunch and dinners for the week and freeze them. That way Im prepared and just pop it in the microwave or oven.

Thank you all for responding. I really appreciate it. I have to take care of me and people think I'm selfish at the same time. Yet I am. They may care when I actually have a Heart attack or stroke, but they could care less now. They can't put two and two together because they are so selfish. It's a no win situation accept for me to take care of myself. That's the only person I can really control anyway.
    Thanks all of you again.
