I am a asthmatic. I come from a long line of asthmatics, but was recently diagnosed. I am taking a few different meds and it seems all of which can cause weight gain. I know that I just have to work harder at losing weight because of the medication.

I was doing some reading and found this information:

Stay away from salt. People taking oral steroid drugs for their asthma may need to monitor their sodium intakes because of problems with fluid retention.

Your best strategy for cutting back on salt is to avoid processed foods. "Foods with more than 400 milligrams of sodium per serving are considered high-sodium items," says Miller. Canned soups, packaged macaroni and cheese, cottage cheese and lunchmeats are all high in sodium.
I found that read interesting because yesterday I had a sodium intake of 3230mg which is 215% of my dietary intake. Yikes! Just too much salt. Anyway I thought I would pass the information. I didn't know the colloration between water retention and asthma.

    Godspeed,

I am asthmatic(very mild case) .I have never heard that before.I take in way too much salt and products with salt. I do carry extra fluid at times because of it but never heard of the two together causing problems.Interesting~ Thanks
