    Hi everyone,

I weigh myself often, sometimes I think it's good because I don't eat that extra whatever because I will be seeing it on the scale but sometimes I think it sabatoges me. If I have a bad day where I am retaining a lot of water or for whatever reason am weighing more I get down. In the past this has been a problem because then I end up saying "screw all this work then!"

What do you guys think, is weighing often a bad thing?

if you can help it, i wouldn't weigh everyday. also, if you check my signature you will understand why it probably isn't a good idea to weigh during TOM. it drives me nuts, but i am addicted to that evil thing.

HI..I think weighting is a bad thing when doing it daily..I use to be that way and I became OCD about it !!..So now I just weight once a month..I usaly go by clothes ,the way they fit I alway keep the clothes that I was at my biggest and the ones where I was thin ..that is how I judge my loss. But differant strokes for differant folks.

The scale is good for tracking progress, but what really matters is how you feel, how your clothes fit, and what you think of your appearance. You know how it is ... two people can be the same weight and look entirely different !

I take a somewhat extreme position and suggest that you consider weighing yourself only once a month. If your clothes are getting looser (or better yet, you've gone down a size !) and you feel better and better each day or week, your weight really doesn't matter that much. That's just my $.02.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a slave to the scale. I weigh 4-5 times a day (I know exactly what I should weigh at each increment to be sure I'll be down in the morning.. I'm obsessed!)

Most of the time, it motivates me. It helps me make the right choices throughout the day. It keeps me from reaching for that late night snack, etc.. But it can also discourage me

I'm at a higher weight now than I've been in 2 years and I'm fighting really hard to get it off.. Weighing every day was making me feel like giving up, so I asked my husband to keep the scale in the trunk of his car (I have no willpower.. if it's in the bathroom, I'll step on it).

It's been almost 2 weeks now & I plan on waiting 2 more. Hopefully it will be worth the wait!

as a reformed scale addict I put the scale away because it would constantly alter my mood about my progress.....I was forced to put it away because the PHEN/PMS/TOM is so intense for me for some reason that I could gain upwards of about 7LBS in the two weeks surrounding my period.....so that's how I broke the habit.
I don't think its a bad thing per say but don't let it rule how you feel about your weight. A big motivator for me is trying on different sized clothes lately so I guess what I am saying is find another way to "see results" to keep yourself positively motivated.

Thanks for all the comments, I've often thought about having my husband hide it and only get it out once a week...maybe I'll try that. It kinda has gotten a bit out of hand but lately it's been so motivating because since it's only been 3 weeks of being on phen i'm losing fast.

YEP! I weigh daily...I just gotta know...I think it motivates me to eat right and exercise...whether I am happy with the number, as in I lost a pound...so then i want to do more...or not happy, as in I gained a pound, damn what can i do to get it going the other direction...but that is just me...i know it is not for everyone.

I find myself upset if I weigh in daily, because of the water weight and clothes/shoes I'm wearing thru the day, it's not accurate so I found the best thing to do once I had to have the scales removed from the house, because I would weigh a pound or two more than I did the day before and freak out get depressed and eat some junk

i only let myself get on scales at the gym, now i can have the scale around and i dont have the temptation like i once did

I keep my scale in the guest bathroom... so it's there when I want it... but far enough away that I don't feel the constant temptation to check my progress!

Well I must be the odd one out
I weigh myself daily, and do not plan on stopping. Everytime I have stopped weighing myself I have gained weight.
At first I did get upset when I saw it moving in the wrong direction, but now I expect it when TOM comes and if I have had too much salt or not drank enough or eaten badly. I think its good that I see it when it has only one day to "fix"
Much much easier to repair the damage if I have not let it go a month or so, because sometimes you just don't realise what your doing.
And of course when it goes the right way it always makes you feel great
No matter what only I choose what goes into my mouth

Well personally i would like to take the weight scales and chop them all up into little tiny pieces.....lol I have found throughout my experiences that measuring inches and how my clothes fit is the best way to see progress. Let me tell you something ladies ( sorry gentlemen but I don't think menopause includes you) when you start experiencing the menopausal stage you will want to throw your bathroom scales out the window..........lol I only weigh myself once a week now. I find it is better for sanity....lol

I agree with bemay30 - I have to weight myself everyday to keep on top of how I'm doing. I don't obsess about it. It tells me if I need to cut back or what I did the last few days is working. When I stop weighing myself is when I start gaining weight. It's too easy to slip back into those elastic pants or shorts and start losing track of how you're doing.

I've always thought that weighing every day was bad, but I recently read about a study of people who had lost a lot of weight and kept it off for at least two years. EVERY SINGLE ONE of them weighed daily. They said it was what kept them from gaining the weight back. If they were up 2-3 pounds, they could address it with diet and exercise and not let it turn into 5,10,15 or more pounds gained.

I weigh myself almost every day, but my attitude about it has changed since phen. It used to make or break my day, but now I just use it to give me an idea of if I need to do a little more cardio, or drink a little more water, or whatever. I don't obsess about it.

I've also found that weighing myself daily helps. i don't stress as often now that I weight daily... Another tip I was given was get rid of clothes that are too big for you. Its easier to let yourself go when you know you have clothes just waiting for you.
