VITAMINS??OTHER PILLS TAKING?

What other pills are you taking with your phen? I have read where some are taking water pills, htp?, and vitamins. Does anyone have any ideas what to take along with phen and how do you know if you need to and how much? What about B vitamins? how do you know to take b6 or b12?

Oh, I'm the supplement queen, lol. Here's what I take as far as supplements everyday:

Magnesium 300 mg
Biotin 5,000 mcg
Probiotics (Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum) 2 Billion CFU
L-Tyrosine 500 mg
Tonalin CLA 3,000 mg
Folic Acid 400 mcg
Calcium 1,000 mg
Z-Bec (B Complex) 1 a day
I also go get a B12 shot every week (sometimes every two depending on my schedule).

I do not take a multi-vitamin, just eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables.

You should definitely add a B Complex supplement. Your body will rid itself of any excess B vitamins it does not need, so there is no harm in taking a supplement.

multi-vitamin (every other day or when I remember)
selenium
flaxseed 1000mg (sometimes)

I have others I have tried to take daily, but I get tired of all the pills...

When do you take your biotin? Do you take with all the others? I used too, but read on my bottle that it interfers(sp) with other meds. Red flag, as I take my supplements with my birth control. It says to take the Biotin 2 hrs before or after any other med to keep it from interfering(sp)?

I take CLA, B12, Biotin, Calcium w/D, and a multi every night with my birth control.

all of the pills are taken daily in the morning after i have eaten something..... i get all of these from my doctor every month when i go in and get weighed. each month he gives me a months supply and i pay $81 for everything this includes the office vist .....

Okay, here's my list again, with when and why I take them:

~Magnesium 300 mg~
Magnesium is essential in the body’s use of insulin and the burning of carbohydrates. Several important studies have found that getting insufficient amounts of magnesium increases the risk of both types of diabetes as well as insulin resistance (which often leads to diabetes). It also helps regulate blood pressure. It must be taken with B6 to be used efficiently by the body. Most magnesium supplements have B6 in them, as well as a little calcium. I take it 3x a day, with meals.

~Biotin 5,000 mcg~
Also called Vitamin H and it's one of the B vitamins. Confusing, I know. It helps your body process the foods you eat, especially fats, into glucose energy the cells can use. It also plays an important role in the production of the fatty acids that ensure healthy hair, skin and nerves. I actually take this for two reasons - 1) This is my hair loss miracle. Phen and thyroid problems caused major hair loss for me. After about 2 months of taking Biotin, the amount I was losing was back to what's normal for a person and I was noticing a lot of new growth. 2) I have epilepsy and take anti-epileptics, which interfere with biotin being absorbed, leading to a deficiency, which could have also caused some hair loss for me. I take it all in one dose, right before I go to bed.

~Probiotics (Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum) 2 Billion CFU~
I don't drink milk or eat much dairy products for that matter. I've been taking it for almost 10 years. Chronic sinus infections when I was a child, followed by constant dosing of antibiotics caused candida in my blood (this is the bad bacteria that causes things like thrush and yeast infections). Probiotics are good bacteria, which kill off the bad bacteria. I take this first thing in the morning without food.

~L-Tyrosine 500 mg~
It's an amino acid, needed to make epinephrine, norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine, all of which work to regulate mood. Tyrosine also aids in the function of organs in the body responsible for making and regulating hormones, including the adrenal, thyroid, and pituitary glands. This is why I take it, for thyroid reasons...though I do notice being more apt to deal with stress in a positive way, that's the dopamine working. I take this with my phen and Z-Bec when I get to work. It also needs to be taken with a B vitamin to work properly but will not come with one in it.

~Tonalin CLA 3,000 mg~
This is a newbie for me and I have a hard time remembering to take it. CLA is an amino acid, that supposedly promotes an increase in lean muscle mass and a decrease in percentage body fat. The jury is still out for me.

~Folic Acid 400 mcg~
Another B vitamin, vital for energy support (read: less fatigue) and it's essential to make healthy, new cells. It also prevents neural tube defects, such as spina bifida. Women should take this during their child-bearing years, even before they start trying to have a baby. It also helps make normal red blood cells, prevent anemia (which I'm prone to), and produce the nervous system chemicals norepinephrine and serotonin. I usually take this at lunch time.

~Calcium 1,000 mg~
Again, I don't drink milk or really eat dairy. I don't want to be some hunchback when I'm 50. I take this at dinner or sometime in the evening.

~Z-Bec (B Complex)~
B Complex supplements are helpful for a variety of reasons. I take it due to my thyroid and epilepsy. It helps with energy. I take it when I get to work with the L-Tyrosine.

I'm a B12 shot junkie. They give me a serious boost of energy, plain and simple.

How did I know to take them? I'm a medical geek and reading about this stuff thrills me, lol. I was tired of being tired and looked into natural ways to improve my energy. Most supplements are very safe, so doing a trial to see if you benefit is worth it. However, always make sure you do your own research into side effects and proper dosages. ok well here is what i am doing and what they do....
Phentermine 37.5 MG (we all know what this does)

Chromium Picolinate 200 MG (Research shows that chromium is an essential part of our diet. Chromium picolinate can have many beneficial results when supplemented. It enhances insulin's effect in the body, improving the uptake of glucose, thereby causing better blood circulation and maintenance of blood sugar level. Gaining energy, burning fat, and building muscle with greater ease are attributed to chromium, to name a few. It assists the body in losing weight by helping it to build muscle to replace fat. Lowering body fat and increasing lean body mass are just a few of the positive properties that chromium picolinate exhibits on the body)

Hydrochlorothiazide (Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill). It helps to lower your blood pressure and decrease edema (swelling) by increasing the amount of salt and water you lose in your urine.)

Potassium Chloride this is needed due to taking the water pill (Potassium is a mineral that is found naturally in foods and is necessary for many normal functions of the body, especially beating of the heart.)

Monthly vitiman b-12 shot in my upper arm (these are basically for energy i always feel really good for about 1 - 2 weeks after my shot and then it starts to wear off i also see more weight loss these first 2 weeks)

i have heard that the liquid b12 is the next best thing from the shot.... you put it under your tonge but i have never tried....

Dumbfox thanks for the clarification - those were great! You reminded me about the calcium; I have a bottle of Calcium/Magnesium/b6 in the cabinet that fell to the back and I stopped taking it. Time to get back on that though, as I don't drink enough dairy either.

Interesting about the L-Tyrosine, since I'm hypothyroid.

Nynavae - the L-Tyrosine will help with your hypothyroidism. Are you on any medication for it? All of the B vitamins help too. Another good one is Iodine for thyroid, which I used to take early on when my levels were really out of control, but not anymore.

The B12 shot is the best. B12 orally is not absorbed well due to some intrinsic factors with your ileum. When you take a 100 mcg pill, approximately only 2 mcg is absorbed into the body. So, pills are fairly worthless, except in high quantities. The sublinguals are estimated to be about 50% absorbed.

I take the generic synthroid for the thyroid issue, and the doctor says my levels are good to go. I have questioned this since I've been unable to lose any weight again (without phen), and am always on the lookout for something to boost. I had heard something similar about b12, but I don't know how I'd convince my doctor to give me a shot every week or so, or if I'd want to pay to do it. I might consider the sublingual approach. Thanks for the l-tyrosine info though. You think Target might carry it?

Hmm, I don't know about Target, possibly. Any health food store will have it though for sure.

Synthroid blows, I had a similar problem. My levels were fine, but I still was experiencing hypo symptoms (serious fatigue, irritability, couldn't lose weight...). I found a new doctor (osteopathic MD), had my Free's taken, switched to Armour and BANG, I felt better in 3 weeks.

nynavae: if you wanted the b12 shots you could see if your doc would prescribe the b12 for you to take home and administer yourself. I know some docs do this to keep costs down for their patients.
