My whole family lives in Laurel and i get a fast busy signal when i try to call.

I think that can be a sign the phones are down and/or that the circuits are overloaded (too many people trying to make calls).

I saw on the news that the only way some people have for communicating is text messaging from a cell phone. I dont know if your family has a cell but they said that most have been sucessful when doing that. Just figured I shout that out since the news has said it a couple times and spoke to some people that have been rescued because of it.. Just a thought

I have been trying to get a hold of my Dad outside of Jackson since yesterday,it just keeps saying the circuits are busy. The cell phones will not even go through.

I went ahead and sent a text message to her cell. I'm Verizon and who knows who she has.........i don't even know if it;ll go thru..LOL It said SENT..

WOOO HOOO!!!!! MY Dad called me. Poor fella is mute and talks with a device but he still called me to tell me hes okay from his cell phone He had to leave becuz they have no electricity and he has to have his medical equipment at all times. He is on his way to Houston. He said that the traffic is horrible out there.

He said that almost all of Mississippi is without power and communication. And they do not know how long before it will be back on. He lives outside of Jackson and he said that at his neighborhood they had reported winds of 100MPH, tearing almost everything up it could. He was blessed and his home is ok He said that the damage is horrible that you couldnt imagine. I am so relieved to talk to him and know he will be with us in just a few hours

That's great girl.

We received an emial from hubbys cuz in DC, she said that all of our peeps had gone to Texas.

And the family home in McComb, Ms has sustained lots of damage, but it can be fixed Thank God.

Hope you get your peeps Heartland. Well, I pray for all affected.

I'm so relieved you heard from your dad!


I called my sister the evening before the hurricane hit. She said she my brother was in the hospital and everyone was there with him. Also, another brothers wife had left with their 2 yr old daughtor and he was going to file a missing persons report that day at 4pm.

I was adopted....i have 5 brothers and 5 sisters all together and i was raised as an only child!! LOL So everyone in Ms. is my birth family- i've seen them 3 times in my life.
I don't know why i went into all of this.... ...LOL

Unless u got Nextel it is next to impossible.When we went thru hurricanes last yr it was days with some cellphones & weeks with landlines & like some other cell services to get thru.Patience.Although it is so hard not knowing......

I JUST got ahold of my family! They just got power back today!!
They are all fine. They did have alot of damage to their homes though. My birth mother was hit by a drunk driver 2 days after the hurricane! She spent a couple of nights in the hospital- she's OK now.
Just wanted to update my post....thank God they are finE!

Heartland...So glad to here that everyone is ok. Can't even imagine what you were feeling this whole time not knowing!!! Just want you, your family and anyone that has family friends relatives or anything to do with this disaster know that I have been praying for them. You all have been in my thoughts. Wish ther was more I could do!!!! Again glad things turned out positive. Also that your birth mother is ok. I don't understand why people want to risk there lives and everyone around them to have a few drinks!!!
