Beccah, I feel like you do! I'm frustrated today because I've done so well and now I'm bloated and feel disgusting. I've actually gained 2.5 pounds. TOM is on its way, I know ... but it doesn't stop my brain from discouragement.

Hang in there! If TOM is looming, just sit tight and wait. That dang Tom is a nasty, nasty visitor!! It messes up every thing. (It explaine the cravings and fatigue you mention.)

Congrats on the 12 lbs!! The inches will come off ... just hang in there. Be sure to exercise because that's where the inches truly do show up.

You're doing great! Keep it up.

    Thanks

I'm getting my ** refilled today so maybe the new bottle will bring new determination. I'm going to the gym today since I have loads of time after I do homework.

And- I'm only up half a pound after the TWO cupcakes on Saturday... I'm so bad but I couldn't help it lol.. back on track now.

Oh and I've had pms for about a week and a half. TOM has not shown up yet. What is wrong there? A little spotting, I'll think it finally started and then nothing. Sound familiar to anybody?

    Beccah...
    Yep about TOM being crazy.
I responded to a different post about this same topic.
My husband got a vasectomy about 12 years ago.
Well, after starting phen my TOM was about 2 1/2 weeks late and I've always been pretty regular.
So, at about the 2 weeks late mark, I commented to my husband "I wonder if I could be pregnant?... It happens!!".

He looked like a deer caught in the headlights!!!LOL!!!

I can only imagine the look on his face..lol. Did you find out what happened- are you??? Enquiring minds want to know!!

Considering that I was spotting yesterday and the night before, I wouldn't say this is my situation.. but now you have me wondering!! hmm..

    beccah,

I will reuse the blurb I told another poster - it is my best advice.

Fiber Fiber Fiber 30 grams daily. Eat cooked/raw veggies with your meals. Eat fresh/frozen fruit. Eat whole grain cereal. A recent study showed that people who met the daily recommended amount of fiber ate 23% less calories than normal, while portion controllers (dieters) only ate 13% less.

Lean protein. Lean protein. Lean protein. It will protect you against losing muscle tissue while dieting, and get this - you only burn 75% of the protein calories you eat, while burning about 95% of fats and carbs. So that means if you eat 500 protein calories, you can only eat about 400 fat or carb calories. Not pushing you to a high protein diet, but saying make sure you get good amounts of it each day - fish, chicken, lean pork/beef. Protein is also more filling than other foods.

    A little more exercise/activity.
Weightloss success depends on changing eating habits (most regain the weight if we return to our previous lifestyle). Eat like the food pyramid. Lots of dark/colorful veggies & fruits; lean proteins (chicken, skim milk, fish); modest amounts of seeds/nuts & whole grains; start walking and do some resistance exercises to build muscle. Good luck!

Barbie- I bet he took a deep breath.. lol. Do you have kids already?

Ross- I quit eating red meat about two years ago. No pork, beef, ham, etc -- we have tried deer meat more recently b/c it's so lean. It's not that I don't want a steak EVERY day, but with my dad's cardio issues, we can't have anything with [a lot of] cholesterol. Needless to say, when my chol. was checked in 2003 it was 273. Again it was checked in Jan. of this year and it's down to 202. We eat chicken, lots of salmon(wild when we can find it), a lot of turkey. It's amazing what they can do there! ..and more recently sushi. That's pretty cool.

Anyways, I get more than enough protein during the day, it's just that I probably get too many carbs and simple sugars. I don't think I get more than 39g of fat. And I don't get enough [green] vegetables. And I haven't been to the gym this week b/c I don't want to sneeze on everybody. I hate being sick! I went out and walked yesterday but it was cold so that probably made me more sick. Blah.. guess I'll wait it out, phen had a different effect on me today, which is good.

    Thanks all!

You are quite smart about the deer meat. Wild/game meat is far healthier than the red meat in the stores. It is much leaner, has omega-3, does not have the antibiotics, pesticides or other pollutants usually found in store-bought meat.

For what its worth, canned salmon (from Alaska) is almost always made from wild salmon - and quite inexpensive!!!
