On another forum, someone told me that no matter what I will gain whatever weight I lose on Phen as soon as I go off the drug. I asked why, if I continue to count calories I would be automatically "doomed" to gain the weight back.

    Her reply was:

"It happens because the drug completely disrupts your metabolic rate. It changes your body chemistry and when you take the drug away, you are often left with little metabolism to work on. It takes (from what my doctor said) 6 months - 2 years to rebuild your metabolism back to normal. Basically... your body gets used to the drug maintaining your metabolsim and shuts off the natural energy supply. It's hard to get it back again. "

Is there any truth to this? Please tell me this isn't true!

I hope that it isn't true! I don't think so... people just get jealous that you have a pill to help and they don't. My friends mom said to me one day "...that people who lose weight on pills... like you! Will gain the weight back." I think that is what she said, I didn't really take it to heart. I know I did this. Phen helped me, but I lost 65 pounds. I was off Phen for about 3 weeks and didn't gain a pound. And I was eating badly. So I don't think this is true. I hope someone sheds some light on this cuz now I am worried.

yeah i think thats a load of cr@p i lost 30 pounds on phen and the last time i took it was about a year ago. scince then i have lost 35 more pounds. i have changed my life style though i eat right and excercise regularly. if you eat everything in site and don't excercise you are going to gain the weight back whether you used phen or not! that's just my opinion though!

I agree. I lost a lot of weight on phen many years ago and the only reason I put it back on was because I didn't keep up the lifestyle changes with my eating and exercising. I'm sure if i had i wouldn't be back trying again. Phen isn't a miracle pill that takes it off and then keeps it off - it's just a kick start. I think of the weight it helps me lose as a reward for the changes i'm making in my habits - we all know it's easier to keep going if you see results for what you're doing - phen just makes the results appear faster. I gained a few pounds when i first came off it all those years ago but that was because i stupidly thought i could have a break after all my hard work. I lost them again quite easily. It took me a number of years to gain all the weight back (and some) but that was just laziness.

It is better to wean yourself off it but only to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

I don't know for sure, but I'm willing to bet Phen isn't an "artificial metabolism". Phen isn't burning the fat. If you take Phen, and eat the way you always do, you won't lose weight.

It's clear the gals here lost the weight by reducing calories and increasing activity.

Phen is simply a tool to help decrease your appetite.

Looking forward to a reply from a "professional".

(And there are a lot of "friends" out there who talk out of their ***** thinking they know what they don't.)

My brother was on Phen for a little over 8 months and lost 50lbs. When he stopped, he kept watching what he ate and hasn't gained ANY weight back. That's been about a year. On the other hand, my step-son took it for about 4 months and lost 25lbs, went off and DIDN'T watch what he ate and has since gained what he lost plus some. This just tells me that you have to maintain the lifestyle when you go off.

If you go back to old eating habits of course it will come back- lifestyle change is the answer, phen is only a crutch.

Thats b.s in my opinion. Three years ago i lost 40lb on phen and have only regained about 8 of those lbs. And that only because i have not been consistent with diet and exercise.
Of course if you went back to old habits when you stop taking phen then you would re-gain.

    i wonder this myself.

i was on phen for a month. but i don't *think* it did much of anything for me. and then school started up and moving, and all sorts of other stressful things and i barely have time to sleep much less keep track of pills and such.

which is odd, because i barely ever eat, but that doesn't mean weight comes off.

    stupid slow metabolism.
