    Post

Last summer Jake was three. He decided one afternoon that he didn't want to swim with his floaties anymore. So he took them off, walked over to the trash and tossed them in. I was cool with that figuring he was ready. So over the course of the summer he really started swimming well. Here is this 3 year old swimming circles around 5 and 6 year old still in life vests.

Fast forward to last week. He is now a pretty accomplished swimmer but he is still at the beginner stage. So yesterday I was encouraging him to try swimming with his head under the water. I grabbed some dive rings and tossed them into the 3 foot deep water. He jumped in, dove down, grabbed both rings. So...in my pushy, "let's see what this kid can do" fatherly way I moved down to the 4 foot level. Jake jumped in, swam down, got both rings.

I was pretty stunned at this point. He's not really that tall and he was litterally diving face down to the bottom. So....as deep as our pool goes is 5 fee. I was not very optimistic, but I threw them to the bottom. Jake jumped in.....swam to the bottom.....and emerged with both rings in hand. Not bad for a 4 year old. He was pretty psyched.

Like a smaller and skinnier version of me. Both Brieana and Jake are good swimmers. Their mother was a competitive swimmer so they most of gotten it from her side. I'm more of a relax by the pool guy. Give me a big blow up mattress and a margarita. All that diving down for rings is just too much work.

    What a cutie!!

That's really good for a 4 year old, Cali. I was a swim team coach last summer and good Lord, to get a lot of the 5, 6 and even 7 year olds to dive was like pulling teeth!!!

    He's worse.
His big thing now is, "Boy don't wear jammies to bed only girls." so now he will only wear pajama shorts, commando, and no shirt. He refuses to put on anything else for bed. What can I say about it? That's all I wear to bed. I told Michelle (my ex), "heck...just feel lucky he doesn't see what I wear when he's NOT here". At least the kid put's on something.

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't blame him to be honest with ya! When I go to sleep I like to be comfy too, and that intails as little clothes as possible, well, during the summers at least.

Star - Agreed. Less clothes = greater comfort.

Babyphat - He already IS a heartbreaker. He's my wingman. We go down to the pool and he just walks up to girls and starts chattin' them up. He's out of control in the supermarket. He's been responsible for more than one of my dates. LOL

We're starting to work on his selection. He's not always as discerning as I'd like him to be. But he's getting better. I cut up a bunch of my old Maxim magazines and I made him some flashcards. I'll let ya'll know how that works out once the summer kicks in.

Cali- he is adorable!! Swimming already? Thats great! My eight year old is a GREAT swimmer, but he can't dive yet. He wants to so bad, but he just does belly flops. Hopefully he will learn this summer. We just opened the pool Saturday, and he is already begging me today to swim.
