Question

I keep hearing about 5HTP and Colon Cleansing and I have one main question that I need answered. Do any of these help with kicking the phen back in after you've built up a tolerance? I've been off the phen for about a week now and I should be getting my 3 month supply from Fedex today. I want to know if any of you have experienced the phen kicking back in w/ these products. If any of you know anything that will help, please let me know!!!

5-htp seems to help me with the phen thing.I've been taking it for about a week and I do notice a difference.I can't say for sure that it is the htp stuff, but I haven't been craving like usual.

So you're taking 5htp plus the phen? And do you think that you had built up a tolerence before you started taking the 5htp?

Hey Phat,
I was thinking today. It is no fun to deal with the phen tolerance thing but I think in the long run it will be helpful to get us into the natural routine of living a healthy life. I love the boost i got at first but it didn't last long. I have so far to go-I wish it would have lasted longer but in the end it is good that it gradually just stops working.
Spechele
PS Today I am feeling much better. I think I just needed to vent for a day.

yes I am taking both. I don't see the 5-htp as an appetite supressant or a weight loss pill. It is suposed to increase your seratonin level, kind of the way prozac does( hence the phen-pro combo)thus giving you back some of the effectivness you had in the beginning. This is expained better on the other htp threads.I would consider the drug itself to be more of an anti-depressant, which sure can't hurt me!Also I take mine 100mg before bed. It seems to help me sleep better.I think some people are getting the wrong impression of htp and taking it with their meals. That is not what it is for, it's just a nice side-effect in some cases.probably because some companies are marketing it that way.

If you havn't already, I would take the time to read the other 2 threads on htp. They have alot of usful info and excerps on them.the difference I feel is pretty subtle, but I notice it.It will take awhile for it to really raise your seratonin levels so patience is important, even though it is said to work faster than prozac and other anti-depressants.

I never said you couldn't. Take them when you want.I just said there was no advantage in my opinion since it is not an appetite suppresant.I don't really think it matters when you take them. Although taking them with your meals may help with nausea it you are expierencing it at all. taking it at night also helps with that too. Some people have said it relaxes them so I figured taking it at night was the best bet for both concerns.

Casino- I did read all of the posts on 5htp. I just wanted to know specifically if it helps kick the phen back in. I think I might go buy some this evening. It's pretty inexpensive. I used to take prozac, then zoloft as a teen. I was severely depressed then. I don't think a mood enhancer would hurt me a bit! Thanks for your help!!

Spechele- I don't care what you say, you've got the brightest, happiest smile and I know you light up the room when you walk in! You've lost almost 50 lbs and that's a lot of weight woman! You'll get there. You know what it takes. Either way, you're beautiful to me.

This is how I got to that conclusion. You didn't specify why it's the wrong idea, so I figured it was just a bad idea all together.

So you don't lose the effectiveness it's intended for by eating and taking it?

Just curious cause I don't want to blow my money for nothing.

You know how some meds lose their umph if taken with food?

My bottle of 5-HTP (i purchased at wal-mart) says "helps control Appetite" mood enhancer and promotes balanced serotonin levels.

I am taking 30mg of phen with 10 mg of prozac at 5 am then I go work out and at about lunch I take 50mg of the htp. I am not as hungry, as a matter a fact I now stop eating by 4pm and don't eat until the am.
This may sound crazy but my problem eating time is in the early afternoon so last week I decide to give this a try and I am now at my lowest weight!
I do get a little hungry in the evening but I just drink a big glass of water and I go to bed around 9:30 or 10.

Here is my good news of the day...this am I weighed 178.5 which happens to be my lowest weight on my new scale and I started!! I know to much info but all you women out there know what I mean.

Yeah, 5htp.com says the same thing, it's just a matter of opinion whether it's an appetite suppresant or not. Anything that makes you eat less is suppressing the appetite. Whether it's emotional or physical I really don't care.

sorry for the confusion, I stated at the beginning of the thread that it was my opinion that it was not an appetite supressant so I thought it was understood.

I also stated that companies are probably marketing htp as a weight loss drug because it was a side-effect, and they know that they can make more money marketing it that way.sadly it is usually about the money. most people especialy women, are emotional eaters so of course raising the seratonin levels in your brain is gonna help in that area.weight loss is also a side effect of prozac and effexor, along with some other anti-depressants. I don't see people calling them appetite suppressants or weight loss drugs. It is my understanding that this is the same affect htp has on people and this is what I based my opinion on.Therefore, although it may "indirectly" keep you from eating as much, I see no benefit to taking it before each meal.I don't think it matters when you take it as long as it is getting into your system.

I hope I made myself a little clearer this time.I never meant to cause any confusion.I am certainly no expert and these are just my opinions, which seem pretty sound to me,So of course I could be wrong, but I was answering a question asked by phat and she seemed pretty happy with the answer.

Tia congrats on your weight loss girl!!great job!

different resources state different ways of taking phen. i have seen two. one says to take it with every meal and with every snack. the other states to take a pill 20 mins before each meal but not to take more than 300 mgs a day.

i when i remember i do take it 20 mins before every meal.

phen and 5-htp has stopped the sugar and simple carb cravings and feeling cravings late at night.
