My sister is a beautiful girl and I love her to death and that is why it hurts me to see her struggle with her weight. I know phen shouldnt be used if your under 18 but I think she's a good candidate for it, she's at least 5'10 and 240pds. my concern is SHE'S 16 years old. Just last week for Christmas I got her a membership to my gym and she's been going with me and doing great. She gets discouraged because the scale hasnt moved. I think giving her phen will give her motivation. Her goal is to be a 10/12 by prom in May 2006 so she has plenty of time. What do you guys think? Should I not order her the pills and let her reach her goal with exercise alone or should I get her the pills and help speed up the process? My cousin was the one who was on phen first and in 4 months she went from 160 to 125! No one knows I just started this month. When my sister asked my cousin how she lost the weight the expression on her face looked like she was curious to try phentermine too.

Let your sister decide. After all, it's her body. Bring the subject up and if she's interested, you can give her the info. But don't just order the pills for her, it might offend her. She sounds like she's doing great so far with the gym thing. Wish I had a buddy that would go with me!!

I would definitely NOT give her the pills. She has plenty of time and this can demotivate her. It's much better if she can do it without it, especially at this age. This is an amphetamine and there is a very good reason not to give it to people under 16.

I agree, i think she is too young to start taking amphetamines. She is young and has the ability to loss weight fast, her metobolism is still very good at her age. If you want to help her educate her about eating healthy. Low fat, a lot of vegatables and fruit, lean meat and fish, high fiber etc. The best thing you can do for her right now is support her and encourage her to eat well and exercise.

My son who is 19 is on Phen again. He was 16 the first time the doctor put him on it and he did great losing 20 pounds but he needed to lose around 60. The first time he would not listen about eating healthy. Now 3 years later he is trying again but this time he is eating healthy.

He has lost 25 pounds in 42 days. Though it has slowed to about 3 pounds a week now he is still very happy to see it going. He is 6'4" and 287 so buying clothes for him were extremely hard. Now he is able to go into a store and buy off the rack without me having to alter the clothes to fit him.

I still haven't been able to get him to exercise. He says his job gives him enough work and soon he will be attending college as well. So the walking to classes will help.

If you do decide to get the pills for her try starting with the 15 mg. since it might just be enough for the boost she needs. I wouldn't get it for any longer then 3 months; she needs to learn she is doing this and not the pill. I would defiantly teach her about eating right and water, water, water. She is at a great age to learn good habits NOW, like healthy eating. My son has finally learned to leave the soda alone, and that alone cut out over 2000 calories a week.

Good luck to both of you.

Not to mention the fact that it's illegal to order pills for someone else...if she ever had a problem on the phen and you had to admit it to the doc, you could get in trouble. Just be careful with that!

If Suth's son could get it prescribed by a doctor, maybe your sister can also. Try to find a weightloss doctor in your area and you might be surprised. It is worth the shot. Heck I just realized that both of you guys are in Texas maybe you should find out what doctor her son went to. I would prefer her be under a doctor's care, just because. She sounds like she is motivated and I definitely understand her frustration. There is nothing like working your butt off and not losing! Try to find a doc that will do it and as long as she wants to do it, then I say go for it.

Determined, I agree with u on that one. It would be wise to take her to a doctor so she would have to go in for monthly visits while taking it and be monitored by a doctor. I personally like the idea of getting a checkup every month. Not that i'm a hypochondriac (sp), but its nice to know that if anything happens while i'm on this stuff my doctor will know how to help me. Plus she keeps an eagle eye on my cholestrol and blood pressure. I tell ya when I was 16 I would have killed for my sis to get me something like this, but on the other hand, Now that i'm a little older and wiser (tee-hee-hee) I appreciate how hard I have worked to get me here, if I were younger I would not have, I would have done a half **** job and inevitably failed. Maturity has alot to do with it. I would let her try it on her own and see how far she can take it. I know how she feels, I was not a "skinny" teenager by any means. Even in highschool I was 170-190lbs. It went down hill from there. I did not have time nor did I have the will power to go through with a diet. If she can do a little at a time and be happy with that then she will be fine, If she wants the "quick fix", then she is not ready. Nothing good comes easy. Even with the phen you still have to work your butt off to see results.
Keep on motivating her the best you can and be a role model for her, let her see how great you are doing, and she will want to follow.
Miki
