Ok. One last post and I'm "outee"!

I took in 2 little kitties ( outside , I have been feeding them , and now they live under my deck).

Well, now Mama kittie has shown up. I think I may name her Gargamel just because she was BAD for getting knocked up and having little fatherless kitties all over the place! LOL

Well, I see it as my "parental obligation" to have the cats fixed. But, hubby is ticked at me for feeding the little boogers anyway, so I was wondering if anyone knew whether the Humane Society would do it for free...?

They use to do it free here (Michigan) years ago.
Although when I called a couple of weeks ago they said they no longer do it. After calling 4 vets the prices ranged from $75- 200 bucks..
Good Luck

Thanks for the advice guys. I can't believe that I have gotten myself into this. I don't even LIKE cats. But, they were SO skinny, and little. I just couldn't let them starve...? Also, do cats get shots? I have never had a cat before ( except when I was with my ex, and he had the cat for years before I came along). What if they scratch my dogs and give them some horrible disease...?

Cats, if they are going to be outdoors, need a rabies shot (cost HERE for a one year vac is $7) and should also be vaccinated for a BUNCH of other diseases. They call it a seven-in-one....HERE it is about seventeen dollars a pop at the vet...or you can go cheaper and get a do-it-yourself package at a farm and feed supply place. Easy as one-two-three.

The spay/neuter operations can be a little pricey, depending on where you live and which vet you use. Get on the horn and call a couple of local vets and ask them where someone on a tight budget like yourself can get some cats fixed. Also do an internet search for low-cost spay and neuter programs in your area. Should take a whole five seconds max.

Good luck.

Just remember that when you allow the cats to become dependant on you for food, etc, that you can't just leave them to fend for themselves when you and the ball and chain build up. Better to find them a good home yourselves, or turn them into a shelter.

the human society would do them for free if 1- you gave them the kittens 2- the kittens are healthy enough to be adoptable (no feline panoleukemia, even fleas in some shelters). the mother will most likely be put down, euthanized.

getting them fixed is not expensive.

i had 5 cats once because i love cats and it is the thing to do in manhattan. anyway, ex has them (sometimes i lose sleep thinking about them. i missed them a whole bunch).

for anyone thinking of getting a kitty--
cats need:

- beds
- toys
- scratching posts
- they need the proper diet

(do not feed them cheap supermarket cat canned foods because they are full of ash and other junk they do not need. OR you will be paying heavily on medical bills especially for male cats. they tend to get cystitis due to crap they put in that cheap food)

- get a cat vetinary book for reference.

(read up on everything you can on cat care)

- get a couple of liter boxes
- get litter.

do not get the stuff that clumps up the waste. it stays in the cat's fur, the lick their fur and it clumps up in their esophagus and bellies. best to do everything to save yourself a costly trip to the vet and prevent mr or miss whiskers from suffering due to your lack of care.

- get a water bottle with a spray nozzle to spritz the kitty when he/she does something naugthy. NEVER HIT A CAT or ANY ANIMAL!
- patience
- lots of love!
- hairball remedy
- proper vet care
- screens for windows. cats don't have 'nine lives.'

best not to get a pet if one cannot invest in the feeding, emotional well-being, shelter and medical care (and even pet medical insurance) for it.

Well, hubby and I discussed it, and we are going to call Dr. Graham ( our family's vet for over 10 years), and tell him to put a poster up to see if anyone wants to adopt them. Mark is also going to check around work and see if he can find some new parents.

I guess I have gotten myself into this situation, and it's up to me to get out of it. We are moving soon, and hubby says that they''re NOT comming with.

But, what would y'all have done? They just showed up at my door step one day, and I can't let one of God's creations just starve...!

Gonna cal Dr. Graham tomorrow, and Humane Society. Thanks for the advice guys. I seriously didn't know what to do!
