Question
I've been on and off (and on & off) phentermine (37.5 mgs) for 3 years. I've been off for several months and am just getting back on track. Yippee! Has a real medical doctor told any of you how long is too long to be on? I am a mom and don't want to hurt myself.

Also, ever hear of any problems with phen and tanning beds?

Thanks for your time!

I don't have an answer for you Nellie but wanted to say that I am wanting an answer to the same question. I was a bit dissapointed in the advice I got from the online pharmacy I ordred from. I figured I would actually have to talk to someone but all I did was fill out a questionare. I didn't know how to start it. I still don't know when or if I should increase my dosage from 30mg to a higher dose. I just keep looking online. I would ask my one private doctor but I am seen at a military hospital and they do not prescribe diet meds from what I am told. I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I think as long as you monitor your blood pressure, and feel good no bad side effects like chest pain or rapid heart rate etc... you can continue to take them. At least thats what my Dr says.I've been on 1/2 of the 37.5 mg for 3 months. I haven't lost rapidly, it's just been steady. All together Ive lost 19 lbs. But slow and steady is what it's about. If you loose it to fast you will gain it back, or so they say. Phen is just a tool to helping you learn to eat right, making the right food choices, and getting into shape. Also the water thing is so true, lots of water every day will help you loose. Hope this has been some help.

As far as the "how long can I take it" question, I'm not sure. I know some doctors will prescribe for a maximum of three months, but I've heard of people being on it much longer.

Tanning beds are bad for you anyway, with or without phen. (But I'm sure you already know that.) With that said, I still go occasionally, though... it's the best thing I've found for when my face breaks out. (Yep, I'm 38 going on 14! ) It seems to me that a tanning salon I used to go to had a list of meds that you shouldn't be on while tanning because it could amplify the effects of the tanning bed. I -think- phen was on it. Check with your tanning salon and see if they have a list like that. If not, I'd at least cut down on the time tanning and see how it affects you.

Good luck with your journey!
