Ok- I'll try to keep this short. My parents were both overweight, my dad still is (my mom passed away). He's also an awesome cook. When I lived at home if I didn't eat something he made- and a lot of it he took it personally and I felt bad. Well- thank god about 14 months ago I moved out so eating at his house w/ his good cooking isn't a problem.
Then I lost my first 10lbs, instead of saying something nice he said "well the first 10 to 15lbs is just water weight".
Now- if I get a cold, or headache or anything wrong w/ me he blames it on my diet, says I"M not eating healthy (i eat fruits, veggies, starches, meets, protien, in correct amounts and work out). He blames it all on my "diet" which he won't see as a life change.
I try to be helpful to him also and point out little changes he could make in his cooking that would allow me to eat there occasionally (if i eat w/ him now we go out so i have choices), and so he, his girlfriend and his mentally handicapped sister could be healthier. His girlfriend agrees with me but he finds reasons why those aren't healthy changes, like fat free foods supposidly have no flavour- or that's his excuse anyway. He won't even walk outside cause he says he gets shin splints really bad. Well I got htose too, but kept using the tred mill and eventually you train those muscles and the splints go away, but he won't even try. He says he gets enough exercise during football season (he shoots pics for the Vikings so he "runs" up and down the sidelines during homegames--only home games). Oh- and he mows our very avg size FLAT lawn maybe once a week. The only working out he does is occasionally uses the bowflex he bought YEARS ago- but not right now cause it's covered w/ crap cause he's finishing the basement.

I'm 20, he's 48. My mom is already gone. I'm an only child. I do not know how to get him to see he needs to make these changes or he could die too- he's all i got left! He already has high colesterol and a thyroid and high blood pressure problems, and is on meds for them all. So- i want ot help him.

I also don't know how to not let his comments get to me.

Sorry so long- but do any of you have advice?

Hey Shannon. Get the girlfriend in on the act. Tell your dad what you posted here. You only have one parent left, and you don't want to be an orphan. Please Dad, do this for me if nothing else. Have him to come here to phenland, if that helps. Praying also helps. Hope it works out for you Shannon. Missus
