Name One Office Pet Peeve

Okay everyone...let's not get TOO carried away because I know I have MANY aggravations at work. Name ONE thing that drives you crazy at work...


Here is my one thing....

1. I am on the phone and someone walks into my office and either (a) starts talking to me anyway or (b) plops down in a chair to wait. HOW RUDE IS THAT!!!!! Can't you see I am on the phone!

I have many but the one that drives me nuts the most...I work with a lady that is 45 years old. She carries her cell phone with her all day and every 2 second you hear it beep...she and her boyfriend of 2 years talk all day long....every 2 seconds u hear her "hello" . I don't know why it bugs me but get a life. I wouldn't have that much to say to my husband..ha ha.

My supervisor and his wifey have Nextels. She doesn't bother to call his desk phone but she pages him on the Nextel and then ALERTS him until he answers! So his freakin cell phone is constantly ringing and beeping until he comes back to his desk.

Sorry that wasn't my gripe. We have 1 bathroom with 3 stalls to share with 40+ woman.... How freaking hard is it to use a seat cover?? DON'T DRIBBLE ON THE FREAKING SEAT That is just plain laziness, childish, disgusting and unsanitary! If you dribble by accident, does it take that much longer to wipe it up????? Don't expect someone else to do it!

Ok I work for a doctor and we have a system that if you take a chart out of the wall then put an out guide there so if someone needs it then they know where it is. Now how hard could that be. Let's just say if you see an out guide in the wall when you are looking for the chart then it is a mircle.

I have many since I work in a nursing home, but my biggest pet peeve is when...I come on to work my shift and do rounds with the previous shift, to find dirty trash left in the residents room. Now, really, how hard is it to take the trash out of the room when you leave!!

My gripe is simple: when i'm on the computer or reading (i have a lot of free time at work)- i do not want to hear your way-too-personal-and-not-my-business-too-detailed stories! I don't want to hear about your (literally) crazy family, what your kids bad friend did to your home, how your car will never be fixed, or how you're broke. I'm concentrating on other things and even if i wasn't- i wouldn't care to know!!!

UGH- sorry, that was my rant and rave for today i guess.

Well, as a stay at home mom, my job consists of taking care of my home and kids...which means when they are sick, I'm the one that takes them to the dr. What bugs me (almost as much as kids riding bikes without shoes or a helmet) it when you see little kids running around with dried snot on their faces and dirty clothes that have yesterdays lunch on them. I understand that when kids are sick, their noses run...but, why not carry a diaper bag with wet-ones or simply WIPE their noses???

Okay, my pet peeve is people who listen through cubicle walls. My neighbor here at work will eavesdrop on all my conversations, gripe to others about my personal time on the phone, and then complains to our boss that she needs an office for privacy since she does the personal bookkeeping for the owner and doesn't want anyone overhearing his personal stuff.

I try to ignore her, but she seems to "track" all of my sick days, personal days etc...

UGHHH. We have the kind of boss who just doesn't want to deal with pettiness and really lets us do our own thing. He doesn't micro manage and only gets involved if he has to. Unfortunately, if my neighbor keeps complaining, I have the feeling this will change.

Im sitting here minding my own business... doing work, playing on the internet, whatever. My boss comes out of his office and proceeds to tell me how his physical therapy is going... how is kids and grandkids are doing... what he ate for dinner the night before and whatever else he feels I should know.

I'm with a couple of people above. If you see me reading a e-mail. Don't stand behind me and read it with me. It is not addressed to you. If you want to talk go ahead and say what you have to say. But don't stand there for 5 minutes reading my e-mail.

Also, I don't like it when people clip the finger nails at work. Alot, of guys do that and it drives me crazy to hear that clicking noise.

I want to add on to the one I started this with. I am an HR Director which means that everyone thinks they have access to me ALL the time. In addition to walking in on phone calls - they interrupt no matter what is going on....examples

1. In the middle of a conversation with a coworker on a WORK-related subject.
2. When the door is closed - they knock - I don't answer because I am in the middle of an interview - they knock again - I ignore them again - they OPEN THE DOOR!!! I say (as politely as possible) "I'm in the middle of an interview did you see my sign" they answer "Yeah, I was wondering if I could talk with you when you get done" GOD GIVE ME PATIENCE!!!! Are people really this self-centered and ignorant of social graces?!?!

I agree with a poster above....why can't people clean the toilet seat if they make a mess? Do they leave it messy at home?

Here's my peeve:
I can't stand it when there is a job to do (say a joint effort type job) and everyone but ONE person is working their butts off. The ONE person just sits and complains that they're working too hard, or they shouldn't have to do this particular project, etc. Drives me nuts. Mainly because I end up trying to compensate for their lack of work!

Ok. I know this was a one answer type thing but I have to add this...it's not really a pet peeve though. I worked for Manpower Temp. services (I'm a stay at home mom now). I hated the way I was treated on those jobs. I would do the exact same job that a permanent employee would get paid say $18/hour for and all they paid me was minimum wage . Keep in mind that I didn't start out in the position but, when the previous, permanent employee got a promotion they wanted me to take over her job without the higher pay...and they refused to hire me permanent. Made me mad. The boss would ignore Manpower when they tried to contact her because she knew they were going to demand a pay raise for me since my position in the office had changed. Happened all the time. Secondly...because I was a temp most people in the office never would take the time to get to know me, wouldn't look at me, or even give me the time of day even though I was at most assignments for at least 8 months at a time. Made for a sad, lonely work day. Temps usually get all the crap work too. Well, that's my rant.

Well i never worked in an office, but I did hair for a while and I used to hate it when a client would come in and I was 8.5 mos pregnant and requested only cuts, and they would want a spiral perm or some ****. Then everyone else would run and hide, and that would leave me because I could not run. We got paid a portion of what the customer paid, so it was not like good money or anything. i would get so pissed, and everyone would eventually come out while I was wrapping and say, "Your baby is going to be born deformed". And I am like, "Well *****, why did you run and hide then?" lmao then I would get ill or something and leave suddenly. They had to take over when I left. Ha ha But this happened quite a few times.

OK, I have this really great job now, and I have no complaints about it ( I know every one is groaning and wanting to kill me), but I have had a few in the past that made me want to snatch someone bald headed. My biggie is that one person who is always trying manipulate a situation so that they don't have to exhert themselves. When i was stationed in Germany, we had this civilian that always kept track of where everyone was, like what time they were taking lunch, and when they were taking leave, and then would go complain to the supervisor if it wasn't convient for her!!! Hello, we are the ones serving our country, and you want to dictate when we can take a little time off. She was also one of those who had to either call in sick, leave early or bring her kids into work.. at least once a week. I could never get my job done because I was too busy doing hers.
Gosh, I'm moving to FL later this summer, and I've got it so good right now that I am so afraid to go to work for anyone else.

Boy, my pet peeve is smokers...well maybe not smokers but management that gives smokers the right to leave for smoke breaks. Why should the "poor little smokers" because of their addiction be allowed these little mini breaks to go outside and indulge in their dirty little habit while the rest of us have to sit there and work. GRRRR

Trisha1....if smokers are allowed to go outside and smoke on a break then you are entitled to a break too! Surely they haven't told you that you can't have one have they? That's only fair. I smoke and I did take my breaks...one in the morning and one in the afternoon. That's it. But, the other employees in the building were also allowed to take a break if they wanted it too. Should be the same for you. Don't blame it on the smokers...blame it on management....they can't do that to you. Yes, I guess it is a dirty little habit but don't look down on us for it. It doesn't make us bad people. You don't have to like smoking though. I admit that. When they go out...you take a break too! 10 minutes is allowed (federal law).

Boy, reading all of this stuff makes me happy I am a stay at home with a home business selling Mary Kay products.

The only thing that bothers me is the other mothers at the mom's club. They don't watch their children and they like to gosssip alot.

Okay I have to get in on this one. I work in the service industry with spa clients in my spa all day and even though I am the owner I do many of the services with my staff. I hat the women and men who come in there looking for miracles. Like they want a body wrap and figure they are going to be thin over night and if they are not they are pissed and it suddenly becomes my fault.Now let's get serious if I own a spa and I have body wraps that make you thinner wouldn"t I be soaking my *** in it every chance I get???And I would be alot thinner HELLLLOOOO!!!!MMMM! I wonder sometimes about people. Then when you give them advice like changing their diet and such they look at you like your nutts!
Then your on the phone and they stand there looking at you to serve them even though their esthetician is waiting for them they still stand there looking at me to help them GRRRRR!
Or the ever classic one is the ladies who have been working all day then come for a bikini wax YUCK!!!!! what the hell are they thinking. But you see they see you are there to serve them and that is all they see.Okay I am done,,LOL!!!

I hate when the person in the next cubical starts b!tching about his calls. As if I don't have my own calls to b!tch about. When I get a minutes peace in between calls, I'm not trying to listen to how so-and-so had her phone on speaker and he couldn't hear a word she was saying. Who gives a sh!t?! As I also work in HR as well as payroll/AP, I find that alot of mine are similar to Krista's. Besides the one's that she said, my two -or- three biggest ones are:

1. I am highly organized. I take the time to organize the employee files, my A/P files, tax files etc. (I used to run my own dept. at a previous company- now I am the support person and still make alot more than I did for less responsibility) My co-worker/boss will come in, get a file, unorganize it and either a.)loose it in her slob of an office that I have to then search to find it, or b) put it in the to be filed pile-which I already filed it from! Hello-how lazy are you? You took it out- put it back the way you got it or found it.

2. My co-worker/boss's office is directly across mine. On her phone I labeled the button that buzzes into my office. Instead of buzing me she always yells "Michele" like I'm some animal- I can't stand that! or she'll come in after she's been iming somebody on the internet for 4 hours (like today) and say "What are you working on?- I like Thursday, or whatever particular day it happens to be, because its my lax day"- meanwhile I'm surrounded by reports etc.

3. When my boss comes in at 9am, already an hour late, then makes her HR rounds where she walks around the office and basically gossips to all her friends- and says she's working on employee relations. By then its 10 am. At 11 am she'll leave for an hour lunch. Get back and go to the bathroom etc. Then she'll stop in my office while I'm on lunch to talk to me. Then she'll work for an hour or two. We'll have our meeting and she'll tell me how she is too busy for all the work she has. Hmmm- maybe if you actually worked!!!!

I would have to say my biggest peeve is BACKSTABBERS I dont really understand why people feel like they need to act this way but there are many of them. I am in the AF and I have started to realize that no-one is truly my friend. Everyone seems like they are out for what they can get and not help other people out when needed. In the Air Force were suppose to work together but there are always the few that will disrupt,minpulate,and lie about everything. You tell them the sky's blue they say you said its green with white spots. My other peeve is people who cannot maintain a clean,pressed uniform, I mean lets face it in the military its not like you dont know what your wearing everyday. I mean how hard is to drop your uniform off at the cleaners? Ok thats all. Amy

OK I HAD to get in on this one. There is a girl where I work that is constantly sighing...she does this really loud so everyone can hear it and does it every time someone asks her to do something. LOL. It is really humerous and everyone makes fun of her. I think she really hates her job.

Ohh ooohh I know we are only supposed to have one pet peeve but I have two! SHe also talks on the phone a lot. We all work in cubes so it is impossible NOT to hear. Well she doesnt even try to keep it private..she just sits there and yaks and laughs lol. Those are mine. Great topic Kaybee
