    Question

I would like to know what is a good speed to do on the treadmill in order for it to do you any good. I don't want to go too slow but I don't want to try to go too fast either. I just want a nice good workout on the treadmill and build from there. Also, how have you incorporated the treadmill along with the rest of your workout routine? I would appreciate some responses since I'm really wanting to get my exercise routine back on track. Thanks.

I don't think that there is an exact # that you should be doing. Its more like what your body can handle. And that your doing in for a decent amount of time. You don't want to be at 4.0 but only do the treadmill for 10 minutes.
Ive read and unfortunatley can't find where that a good range to start is around 3.5 and work your way up. And that you should be on a treadmill 20-30 min. But if you need to then you start out at a lower pace for shorter amounts of time and work your way up.

I usually do the treadmill 2 x a week and then the other days I workout w/ weights. For me working out in the morning works best. But sometimess it doesnt happen and im stuck in the evening.

    Good Luck

When I started out I used a Pulse Rate Monitor. I found out my Target Heart Rate and adjusted the speed to keep it within those limits. No guess work that way.

Here is my treadmill advise based on my own experience....

I started walking at 3.2 mph for 1 mile in April 2002. I gradually increased the speed and the incline. If I got uncomfortable at a certain speed (I remember 3.7 made my calves burn) I would back it down for another week. I also increased the number of miles. It really is a personal choice how you want to progress. Generally 30-45 minutes on the tread is good and Blippo is right you may want to consider using your heart rate as a guide.

I currently warm up at 3.8 mph for .25 miles, run at 4.8 mph for 3 miles and cool down at 3.5 mph for .25 miles (this takes me about 45 minutes). I am shooting for running 5 mph for 4 miles.

    Hello
Whatever u do. Please donot get into the "politics" of speed. It does not mean a hill of beans at first. Do whats comfortable to u. Your body will definately let u know what it can handle. Any change from what u are already doing is a good change. Always remember that.

Start out at a slow pace and gradually increase your speed. After having worked out on it a while u will want to increase anyway because u will get faster. Always challenge yourself with anything that u do. But not too much to where it will limit your time doing the workout. You will be amazed at what u can do when u challenge yourself. But never overdo it.

When I first started. I was drinving myself crazy worrying about my speed. Until a personal trainer told me exactly what i'm telling u today. IT DOESNT MATTER Do what u can do and continue to do it and u will get better but Time is what matters most.
