Okay, this is a really dumb question - but I gotta ask it. I have cut my calories back to 1200, I have started excersizing , and I am losing weight, slowly, but surely. Now, won't my body eventually just get used to the 1200 calories, and the excersize I do, and cause me to stop losing the weight? I'm afraid of hitting that point. I haven't even lost 20 pounds yet, but I am afraid of stalling.... Petrified of it!! Can someone please enlighten me on how this all works?

Well omm. I'm no expert but we all hit that point. Some more than others. All I know is that the body gets used to the same thing day in and day out. To the point to where it already knows how much u will eat and how much u will burn. You have to make adjustments and changes. Switch up the routine, diet, water intake, etc.
Lastly, Dont worry now. We want to make this less stressful as possible. When the time comes i'm sure u will know what adjustments u need to make and i'm sure there will be alot of people here to give u lots of ideas on what u can do. Relax, Keep up the goodwork and keep us posted. [ May 08, 2003, 07:35 PM: Message edited by: health4life ]

You are exactly on target...you body gets more efficient on less calories over time AND your body adapts to the same exercise over and over. That is the reason why you have to switch up every now and then. I remember the first time I really believe it...I over ate one weekend and I actually LOST weight. Obviously you will not want to do this for the long term, but periodically it "confuses" your body.
Change your exercise routine but doing different things (walk, row, swim, bike, strengthening etc) OR continuing challenging yourself to take it up a notch. That is how I got from walking 1 mile at 3.2 mph to running 4 miles at 5.5 mph. Good luck and keep up the good work. Remember what I always say "It's not about FAST, it's about FOREVER!"

All good advice. Just take it one day at a time and worry about the plateau when you hit it.
By the way all I think my plateau just may be on the way out and my weight loss starting up again. YIPPEE
