I just wanted to take a second and wish everyone a happy holiday week end. My self well i have to work Thur,Fri,Sat 14 hr shifts. Nothing like a 24hrs/365 day a year job (EMS). I hope everyone has a great time.

Sugar. I am a EMT for a private squad service. Nursing Homes call us insted of 911,we transport mental health calls for 2 countys,we do hospital to hospital transfers and we go any place (other states even) for the VA hospitals. We also transport for the local hospice service for the terminally ill. Some days we are slow and then the next slamed busy, there is no predicting how a day will be. Holidays can be slow or busy.

John, my 18-year-old son is interested in becoming an EMT. Is it a two year or four year program? Are you happy with the pay (I know, we can always use more!) How long do people stay in the field and, if they leave, what do they do? Nursing or something? It sounds like you may have a screwy schedule -- 14 hour shifts! That's almost two in a row! Is that normal for you?
