Question
I am doing the slim fast diet plan. I have 2 shakes a day and then a meal at night. What are your thoughts about this while taking Phen?

Well....You asked....

It may be okay for short term...But my thing is this: If you don't learn how to eat WHILE you're losing the weight you won't know how to eat AFTER you've lost the weight. Hence, the weight comes back and there you are again. The Yo-Yo. You can't stay on Slim Fast forever.

I know several people that have done the SlimFast plan and actually did lose the weight, but they all have since gained the weight back, including me.

If you read any of my posts about these subjects, you'll see that I have learned the HARD way about how to eat and keep the weight off. I've done the Slim Fast, I've starved myself-You name it I've done it. But the only thing that has worked for my in keeping the weight off has been learning to eat to fuel my metabolism. I tell ya, I eat. and I eat well. and often.

SO far, I've been at my goal weight (with the exception of the Holidays)for 8 months. Its not that long, but I think I have finally got it this time. I have changed EVERYTHING about how I eat. No more fad diets. No more eliminating whole food groups or whole meals.

I personally think a Slim-Fast shake might be fine for one meal/breakfast esp. if you are not a big breakfast eater. But I really think you should be eating actual food fort he others.

Besides...LAWD, the Sugar & Carbs in those shakes!!!

Well, this is just my humble opinion. I can just tell ya about my experience.

I do the shakes but here is why. I am one of those eaters that forgets to eat all day and then wants to bengs all night. I have been like this sense I was in my teens. So I keep slim fast shakes in my fridge. It does not work for me if I use the mixes because I need something quick and for out the door kind of stuff. Anyway, I keep them in the fridge so If I don't eat I can do the shake and then I do not benge at night. I do this even when not dieting. It works for me and I di dnot gain the weight back.

In my opinion you will always gain weight when you go from doing slim fast back to eating real food because there is no way you can eat real food for the amount of calories that's in a slim fast shake.

Also, the slim fast plan is not a balanced diet. You're not getting the fruits and vegetables that you need in a day or the protein.. so your sensible dinner at night would have to make up for that...

I do have the powder and I mix it with 2% milk (It tastes so much better to me than the ready to drink cans)... and I use it on the days that I don't think I'll have time to eat lunch. That way I know that my body is getting some nutrients and isn't starving. But I don't use it everyday.

I don't do the Slimfast but I do do the Atkins shakes in the am. I don't have time for breakfast and it is so important not to let myself get hungry. Slimfast has to many sugars and carbs and the Atkins is low carb higher protein so it stops the hunger until my snack or lunch time. But I agree with others, learning to eat the right foods is important, because you can't live on the shakes it takes as food groups. Good luck

Wow, some opinions on slim fast on this site huh! Well, i must agree, before i learned to eat right after starting phen i did the fad diets too, including slim fast. I agree that you do need more protien and fruits, and veggies then slim fast gives you. No doubt about that. BUT- i do occasionally do slim fast, maybe for 3 weeks or so at a time, and not every day, or for two meals. If anything i only replace on meal or one snack a day with slimfast because it's liquid, it goes through faster, and i anyway, feel hungry sooner. But- it will supplement once in a while. I typicallly do slimfast when i have gained a couple lbs and need to just feel like i'm getting back on track. And definetly eat some snacks in between!

Hey guys! I have a really quick question....

I just bought some Slim Fast, cause I have a TERRIBLE time eating breakfast in the mornings. A couple years ago, I did Slim Fast and found this flavor that you mixed with fruit juice...anyone know if it's still around?? It was actually kinda yummy.

If u plan on having 2shakes and a sensible dinner for the day..For the rest of your life. I think its a good idea. If its not a life change sometimes its not worth it for the quick weightloss.

I used to drink it myself like u Brandy because I did have troube eating breakfast.

Hiya,

I'm new to the board. Just wanted to tell you what I've just found out about slim fast!

I have been drinking slim fast for years, mostly for breakfast because I'm "not a breakfast person."

Just found out my triglycerides are pretty high and I'm supposed to avoid sugar... well, I was talking to a friend about that and we were talking about slim fast and she told me Slim Fast had a lot of sugar in it!

Sure enough, there are 35-40 grams of sugar in it depending on whether or not you are drinking a canned shake or a meal replacement bar (choc chip cookie dough flavored).

So... I'm not using it anymore... I have switched to AdvantEdge because it has less than one gram of sugar in it. (Slim fast tasted much better!)

Had anyone else realized how much sugar was in that stuff?

Just "food for thought!"

WELL, I LIKE TO DRINK IT WHEN I AM ON THE GO. I EXERCISE AND EAT MY FRUIT AND VEGETABLES. I JUST USE IT AS A TOOL JUST LIKE PHENSO I GETS MY EAT ON. BECAUSE I NEED THE FUEL TOO FOR MY METABOLISM

I agree 100% with everything Luvmyboxerpup so eloquently said.

I lost 60 pounds with Slim-Fast, and kept it off for about 5 months (no Slim-Fast), right up until I quit smoking and went on an eating frenzy with a much slower metabolism and gained all of it back!

I don't know if I would have continued to keep the weight off even if I hadn't quit smoking, as I never did learn how to eat correctly. I thought I knew, and I thought my portions were normal. After all, I'm an intelligent person and I've read the books and articles about weight loss and management. But since following the Weight Watchers point system and coming here, I realized how little I did know. It seems that I had a rather selective memory and my portions were HUGE.

I believe Slim-Fast is fine as a temporary tool, and it's what I used when I first started here. Like several others, I had a real problem eating in the morning and the shakes were a good substitute. But after three months I find I rarely drink a shake anymore.

I'm hungry in the morning now because I am working out (Luv - don't faint), and I only get 20 points so I'll be darned if I waste 4 of them on a drink that doesn't even taste very good! I have about 10 cans in my fridge at work right now (I bought the Costco generic variety, much cheaper). They've been there for a while. I'm too busy trying new things, REAL FOOD, reading the labels, calculating the points, and learning more all the time.

Good luck!

I sometimes eat the Slim Fast meal replacement bars with a piece of fruit for lunch. I don't drink the shakes because I like to EAT. Thats my problem

girls! you MUST be aware of hydrogenated oils! i know slimfast has them...they are WORSE for you than anything!

To hydrogenate a liquid, hydrogen gas is pumped through it until it solidifies. The more hydrogen used, the more solid the liquid becomes. The problem occurs when a polyunsaturated fat is hydrogenated, because it is then converted to a saturated fat.

A saturated fat is the type of fat that causes the body to produce cholesterol. The more an oil is hydrogenated, the more saturated fatty acids it contains. Saturated fat is the type of fat that we need to avoid because it clogs our arteries. Saturated fats have been linked to high cholesterol, heart disease and cancer.

A fat in it's natural state can readily be used by our bodies. When a fat is hydrogenated, it is changed to a trans fat. This changes it's molecular structure so that it can't be used properly by the body.

FOR EXAMPLE: Butter is an animal product, but in moderate amounts our body can handle it more easily than hydrogenated oil. Use butter instead of margarine. Always choose a natural real food over a synthetic fake look-alike.
