    Question

I'm curious. At the beginning of my weight loss journey, I had a little over 160 to lose. Right now, I've probably lost about 60 of that, so I have about 100 to go. And I have a question. I know when people lose lots of weight, the skin can be pretty saggy for a while. I've heard sometimes it can bounce back, and sometimes it may a little, but still leave a bit of extra hanging around. So, for those who may have experienced this (or know about it), is it likely that the skin will go back into shape? I know it would be different for everyone, but anyone know generally how long it would take? I'm not anywhere near where I'd have to start worrying about that yet, its just something I've been wondering about for a while. You see all these shows on tv about people who have lost a lot of weight and had surgery to remove the extra skin. I want to avoid that, not to mention I can't even begin to afford it (though I may have to do something to my breasts, as they'll likely need a bit of a lift ). If it doesn't bounce back, I really couldn't care less what other people would think. Its mainly a matter of feeling good about myself. So.. I ask

Anae, you look great. I didn't realize you had lost so much weight. I think with your age, you shouldn't have a big problem with loose skin. Not a doctor, but it's nothing to be concerned about. Someone else might know more, but from my experience (having been on about 30 diets in my lifetime), the younger, the more elastic the skin is. Good luck young lady, and keep up the good work. I read here on the board once last year... an article that was posted and it said to drink lots of water while losing weight and to use a good lotion and that will help some, the rest is just time. I believe the article said to give it a year or 2 after you've lost all the weight to see what happens before considering surgery.

Wicca once mentioned using Nivea skin firming lotion. (she looks awesome BTW), I've been using it and it does improve the texture, feel and look of your skin.

You'll probably find that some skin will snap back faster and better than skin in other areas.
Missus is also right about the age. You start to lose small amounts of collagen around age 30. If you are around 30 or under then the chances of your skin snapping back are better than if you're older. However... its different for everyone and genetics probably plays a role as well.

Congrats on the 60lbs! Thats quite an accomplishment and you should feel very good about it! Keep up the good work

The skin firming lotions are good and they do help. I prefer the Nivea but I think others said the other and cheeper brands were as good

From what I've read and learned about weightloss and skin I know two things help. Water, drink lots of water cause it will help your skin's elasticity (sp?) and the other is exercise.

My neighbor lost about 100 pounds and didn't have hardly any excess skin cause of exercise. I don't know why it helps but she's not the only one that's noticed it.

Love the new pics in your sig you're doing great!!

PS: Thanks to Stellar for the compliment...you're a sweetheart

Lose the weight slowly as this gives your skin a chance to catch up.

I heard that vitamin K oils help a lot. I know for stretch marks they do!

Wicca is right! I hadn't even thought about exercise but it makes a lot of sense. Exercise improves the blood flow in your body, increases your oxygen levels, promotes the creation of new and healthy cells etc... etc... I bet it really does help. So I would say: lots of water, exercise, skin firming lotion and probably even extra antioxidants. I know Vit C, A and E are essential for healthy skin.
This is one more reason to exercise and the more reasons the better so I'll take it! Thanx Wicca
