Hi, I am just interested in hearing why "you" chose Phen rather than Meridia? Does anyone know the pros and cons of using one vs the other? I started Meridia 15mg but had to quit after 6 days because of the light headedness and the sweats, etc. I'm waiting on my doctor to give me call back to discuss my getting on 10mg and hope that the results/side effects would be better.. If not I'm going to go on Phen. That's why I'm asking about other experiences. Thank**

personally, it was because a friend in my neighborhood had tried it, and at that time i never had heard of meridia

also i just heard on a TV commercial, that they are asking for people who have ever used meridia, to call in and report any bad effects

the commercial said, it has been petitioned to have meridia removed from the market

gosh, i hope they replace it with something else....if that h a p p e n (s)

Cause Phen is a WHOLE lot less expensive! It's also been on the market longer, so info abt. side effects, etc. is more complete.

Hope this helps,

My thinking is that they work on different parts of the brain. Phentermine is more of an appetite suppressant, while Meridia raises the serotonin levels to give you a sense of satiety, or being full faster, calmer, etc. I tried them both and figured out I needed more help with suppressing my appetite than with feeling full faster.

But I'm no pharmacist or physician, so I don't know if this is the case. I just know that Phentermine works for me and with the Meridia I could barely tell I was taking it. I've had friends, though, who absolutely swear by the Meridia.

Well it sure is a difference in the price.. with my insurance Phen is $10 a month and Meridia is $70 for 3 months.. Either way, I can handle the cost. I want something that is going to work with the least side effects. I will admit I liked the idea of feeling "full" on my short term taking of Meridia vs. being on something that gives me that "boost" of energy. What's weird is that my doctor said that Meridia had the least side effects.. Makes you wonder what physicians are up on the latest news. Well I'm sitting here waiting on her to call me back and I'll discuss the pros and cons once again..

I've used both Meridia and Phentermine. I lost weight with Phentermine and gained with Meridia.

My impression is that Meridia is more for the mind. The drug manufacture tries to address the reasons behind your eating habbits while taking the medication. For example questions relating to why do we eat the things that we do, how much, how often, when, where ect. Meridia will put you on a programed diet. You can record your meals and send it in and Meridia (the makers of it anyway) will analyze it and get back to you. They will specialize a menu specifically for you. But you will not have all the ingredients/grocery contents at your figertips. So grocery shopping gets expensive. They send you videos, which are good because they are of overweight people who look average/normal/like ourselves. It's not skinny person advertising that they used to be fat. It's overwheight folks discovering WHY.

Anyhow, Phentermine doesn't care why, that's for you to figure out on your own. It just says - stop thinking about food and shuts down your appetite. That's it.

Note: This was my experience with the two medications. It does not imply that one choice is better than the other. It is simply meant to answer your question as it related to me personally.

How's that for a disclaimer? Ha. Ha.

Good one (analyst)/disclaimers come in SO handy LOL. Well I just got my 10mgs last nite and I took my first one today. I think ultimately it's about the whys and how not to(s). I mean after the goal wt is reached a person can't take these pills forever (or can they?). So it's a matter of a change of lifestyle and these pills help, but after all is said and done.. It IS a mind thing.. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.
