I've only been doing this for a week. I started out three days, took a one day break, did one day took a break and I'm back on for today.

Does anyone have general advice about how long to go before taking a break and how long one's breaks should be.

I was wondering if I started taking my breaks too soon? Maybe I should go a week and then take a break? I partly did the breaks early on because taking this makes me sooo nervous due to some of the posts here and the discomfort of my doctor. Also the fact that it is supposed to be 'habit forming.' But it doesn't seem to be affecting me adversely--just the opposite. However, I don't want to develop a habit or have any withdrawal symptoms.

I'm on 30 mgs. I'm losing weight incredibly slowly but I tried to take that as a good sign kinda (that I'm not traumatizing my body at least).

Miel, you say you've been taking phen for a week and are losing "incredibly slowly" - it's only been a week!

Remember this: You'll see what look like incredibly large initial losses from some posters. Initial losses on ANY plan are usually mostly lean mass and water; for every part of lean mass you lose, you lose another four parts of water. Fat is a low-water tissue; and it takes longer, the longer you've been overweight, to push your body over to using stored fat for fuel, rather than the carbohydrate you eat and your own tissues, for fuel. Exercise will help "throw the switch", but it takes time for the new pathways to develop.

Our extra pounds didn't arrive overnight; and they won't disappear overnight. Rather than focusing on the scale, focus on changing your eating and exercise habits; they'll last you for a lifetime.

As for breaks from phen, I've taken 1-2 days off each week since I started; I don't notice any signs of "habituation" or loss of effect.

Good luck & be healthy!

Hi Miel,
Welcome! My Dr. told me that phen is not physically addictive--that your body will not need it to function properly and you wouldn't get withdrawal symptoms like a heroine addict would not getting heroine. It can, however, become mentally addictive where you think you need it.

Lots of people never take a break, others when it seems to lose some of its effectiveness may break for a day or even a week, and some states I think have laws where you can only take it 3 mos. or so and then have to have a 6 month break or something similar. Find what your body is comfortable with. Why is your Dr. so nervous about it? Is your general health good? Good luck and take care of yourself.
