I used to work for a well known heart surgeon and this 3 day diet is what he used to give to patients. It helped obese patients to lose weight before surgery or those in immediate need of losing or dying because of the strain on their heart.

It DOES work.. I have seen the results. I have tried it but I just couldn't eat the stuff. Numerous people that I personally met lost 50, 100 pounds on this very quickly.

It is similar to the 3 day diet that I saw on that faddiet site that way posted but not the same..That is what jogged my memory about having it...so, I hope this helps someone because it is the real deal. GOOD LUCK!!
    Here goes:
    _________________________________________________
    CHEMICAL DIET
    NO SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
You may have coffee, tea, diet soda or drinks at anytime with sweet-n-low, but NO milk or creamers.

    Day 1-
Breakfast---1 slice of toast, 1/2 grapefruit or 8oz. of grapefruit juice, 2 TBS of peanut butter
Lunch-------1/2 can or 4oz. tuna, 1 slice of toast
Dinner------2 pieces of any kind of meat about 3oz. each, 1 cup of stringbeans, 1 cup of beets with vinegar, 1 small apple,1 cup of vanilla ice cream

    Day 2-
Breakfast---1 boiled egg, 1 slice of toast, 1 bannana
Lunch------1 cup of cottage cheese, 3 saltine crackers
Dinner-----2 hot dogs, 1 cup of broccoli, 1/2 cup of carrots, 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream

    Day 3-
Breakfast---3 saltine crackers, 1 slice of cheddar cheese, 1 apple
Lunch-------1 boiled egg, 1 slice of toast
Dinner------1 can of tuna, 1 cup of beets, 1 cup of cauliflower, 1/2 of a cantelope, 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream

Diet works on a chemical breakdown.DO NOT CHANGE OR SUBSTITUTE ANY OF THE ABOVE FOODS, by doing so the diet will not work. "DO NOT COUNT CALORIES" This diet is followed 3 days at a time.
The other 4 days you should eat anything that you want moderately.
Then you should repeat the menu:
YOU SHOULD LOSE 10 POUNDS EACH OF THE 3 DAYS OF THIS DIET
YOU SHOULD LOSE 40 POUNDS OF SOLID FAT IN A 30 DAY PERIOD BY ONLY DIETING 12 DAYS

It is easier to diet on Monday, Tuesday and Wed and then eat moderately the rest of the week.
Then repeat the next Mon, Tues, and Wed.
The first month you should take off 40 pounds and each month after 20 pounds a month.
    _________________________________________________

Okay, WHEW! That is the exact text from the paper that I used to give to the patients to take home. I hope you guys try this one, it took a while to dig out of my old papers and type up here.

Personally, I just can't choke down the beets or the cottage cheese. Since it is an exact chemical breakdown I couldn't just skip or substitute those things and never really tried to do anything with it.
I was not a nurse or dietician but a simple office manager taking care of the $$$ end of things, ( my speciaLity LOL!), but this baby DID do wonders for alot of people before my eyes.

Please let me know if you try this and if it works for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!

Shirl, I don't doubt for a minute that you did see results in people following a plan like this faithfully, but I DO doubt seriously that the losses you saw were "solid fat".

The plan IS very low in calories; low enough to ensure a significant loss of both lean mass and water, in addition to fat. To lose 40 lbs of fat in 12 days dieting, you'd need a calorie deficit on each of those 12 days of more than 11,000 calories, which just isn't possible.

Believe me, if there were some magic combination of foods that DID work like this, I'd be the first one to sign up.

I realize that this is not the cure all for obesity BUT as I said..a quick way to jump start a loss for IMMEDIATE need purposes.

By no means do I feel that this is a PERMENANT way to keep weight off. I was responding to a post requesting a jump start.

CHILL OUT ON THE NEGATIVITY..... I'm not trying to make any money here...I am the FIRST one to admit that I am a total diet screw up! I am a work in progress, like most here.

If this works for someone needing a jump start then great...if not then at least everyone knows that I cared enough to put it out there for everyone to try.

Shirl, thanks so much for your post. I would like to follow for just 3 days, that's it just to kick start the losing again. I have bounced around 192 for 3 weeks now. I have tried just about everything, increased calories, cardio, started taebo, stopped doing weight training, etc.... I don't want to get discouraged and give up. 2 years ago I lost 30lbs and when I got to 191 I couldn't lose anymore. I didn't lose one pound for 4 weeks, so I just threw in the towel. I refuse to give up this time and just wanted more info.

Thanks so much and I hope to start next Monday. Anyone want to do it with me??

    Talking

Yes, I believe you Shirl. My daughters mother-in
-law was a nurse and happened to be a nurse for
people with heart problems. For patients getting
ready for heart surgery the doctor put them on
a diet almost like this. So they could lose weight
    before surgery.
A friend of my mother-In-Laws tried the diet and boy did she lose weight!
Of course its no quick fix but it helps getting
    you started!

Golden Girl - I am not trying to start an argument, but like shirl said,
It helped obese patients to lose weight before surgery or those in immediate need of losing or dying because of the strain on their heart.
I think this diet is mostly for people who are 100+ overweight. It WOULD be mostly fat and water with those people, but I doubt it would be muscle. Now, with the regular joe however, you will be losing some muscle. I have tried this diet several times in the past and it has worked for me with the exception of the last 2 tries. I was too weak and I have finally figured out why. There aren't too many carbs on this diet and my body was going through withdrawal. I contacted the Atkins center and they said just to add a small salad or two through out the day when this happens. I know people who have lost lots of weight on this diet. And kept it off.

BTW - Thanks for posting this version! This is the one that I used when I lost a few years ago!

    Thumbs up

    Shirl -

This sounds like it may just be the thing for me.... I have an insurance physical next Tuesday evening and would like to lose a little more weight as a "cushion" since I'm so close to the weight limit. I won't take any more phen until after the test because I don't want to take any chances on false positives for other drugs.

I have a few questions and hope you may know the answers. I know you said that you were not in the nutrition end of the doctor's office, but maybe you remember if these questions came up.

    1. Can I do the diet Tues-Thur and then resume early, Sun-Tues (if I can stick with it) or should I just try it once in that time?

    2. Can you use "lite" toast, ice cream, hot dogs, cottage cheese and cheddar cheese? I have low-fat and no-fat versions of some of these in my house. Should I buy the regular stuff?

    3. On Day 3, how big of a slice of cheddar cheese? (I can make pretty big slices<gg&gt

    4. Tuna packed in water, right? Not tuna in oil?

    5. Ick, beets in vinegar! (This isn't a question.)

Thanks, Shirl, for posting this. I'm a firm believer that things work for different people in different ways. Hopefully I can stick to this and find out if it'll work for me.

    Laura..
It has to be 3 days on & 4 days off. you can pick any three days, but then go off for 4 days.

I'm guessing on the 'lite' but I wouldn't spend extra $$ if you have that already..try it and see if it doesn't work buy the non fat-free the next week. same for the tuna in water/oil question.

Even holding my nose didn't help the beets go down! LOL !
    GOOD LUCK GANG!!

Happy I could put this up for ya!

There is a hospital here that prescribes a diet for those needing to drop fast for surgery. I saw it once and it was a high protein/low carb one. Cant locate it anywhere!

Now for this one, bad part is first, I cant stand half the foods on here, grapefruit is sooo gross, not to mention beets! but the biggie is the tuna, I cannot eat any seafood or fish due to allergies. I get violently ill. Too bad they dont allow substitutions. I think that since you only do it 3 days at a time, and is not intended for long term eating, you really dont do that much damage to your system. I also agree that I think this was meant for people with 100+ lbs but hey give it a shot, might kick start things and you might even drop a couple of pounds. If someone is just starting out and needs help to get things under control, it could be very beneficial. It could help you learn to control your portions and that alone is beneficial. Just dont get carried away and use this for long term. It is very low calorie and in the long run we all know that is bad.

Thanks for posting shirl, I think you had the best of intentions in doing so and if one person benefits then it was worth all that digging and typing to share this with us.
