My brother called this morning and said my dog Kinook died. She had gone to live with him this past spring because my baby boy is allergic to dogs. She was a beautiful dog who lived a happy and long life. She has been slowing down for awhile and we knew we wouldn't have her much longer. He said she was playful and running around last weekend but then she slowed down and when he got home from work, she was in her dog house like she had gone to sleep and just not woken up. I haven't told my hubby yet - he's at work and I don't want to upset him there. We adopted her together from the shelter almost 11 years ago and she had been abused so it took months of working with her to get her to trust us. Sorry to go on and on . . . I'm just picturing her big brown eyes and how the littlest things made her happy like throwing her a piece of popcorn or throwing snowballs to her. I know she's better off in doggy heaven where she isn't hurting anymore but it's still emotional. Ok, I'm gonna stop now because I'm all teary and I don't want to get the kids all worked up again.

We are going to go find a nice plaque to put at her burial site. Madeleine wants to put a ball there for her. I keep picturing her when she was a little puppy and I was driving her to the vet. All of a sudden I heard her whining and she had her snout caught in my yoplait yogurt cup! It was the funniest thing - she loves yogurt.

Anyway, I know others here have been through this and I appreciate having a safe place to come remember her. Thanks for listening!

Oh Tamera, I am so sorry. I don't know what to say...I am here if you need to talk about it. It really is losing a family member. It sounds like you gave your dog a long happy loving life and made it's time here on earth a good one.

    Tam-
Just reading your post made my heart feel heavy. It made me think about when my Kaleb was hit by a car and killed 3 months ago. All the emotions that I felt then just kinda came rushing back! My heart going out to you and your family! It is so hard to lose a pet! Our Kaleb is buried in woods behind our house and he has a headstone, we put his food dish, leash and collar by his grave! Tam- I am so sorry, I know how terrible I felt went I found out about Kaleb and to know thats probably how you feel... makes me want to cry! I better stop or I will! Take care, Shannon

Aww that is so sad TamZ. Atleast you will always be able to cherish all the memories you had with her. It's so hard when you have a dog or animal that has become part of the family. I will be thinking of you and your doggie!

    A DOG'S PRAYER

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.

Feed me clean food, that I may stay well to romp and ply and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather, hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...

And I will leave you knowing with the last breath I draw, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

    Awww, Tam, I'm so sorry!

Here's the poem I sent Fay:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

    Author unknown...

    Hugs,

Lee (who has a big Golden head in her lap at the moment)

Thanks everyone . . . I really appreciate your words of kindness. My eyes are swollen today from crying but we are all doing ok. I appreciate the time that we had her and I know she led a happy life. I'm sure some people look at it and say "It's a dog - what's the big deal?" but she was by my side through some very tough times. When I miscarried my first baby, she laid next to me on the bed for 3 days. She wouldn't leave my side until she knew I was alright. When I was on bedrest through my second pregnancy, she would lay on the floor next to the couch all day long! I'm grateful for the memories and I'm happy that we had her for as long as we did.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and support. I appreciate you all!
