So, I have been taking phen for 7 days as perscribed by my doctor. He gave me a list of side effects and we discussed what was going to happen to my body. For the first 6 days I didn't have any side effects, except for decreased appetite. Then, last night, I couldn't sleep. I felt like my heart was beating funny. My fiance checked it (he's a paramedic) and told me it was slightly faster than usual, but still within normal range. If that wasn't enough to keep me from falling asleep, my ears were ringing so loud that I had to turn on this mammajamma of a fan to drown out the sound coming from within my own head. Then, I couldn't lay on my side because I was afraid I was going to crush my heart. And I got all freaky and ended up reading in the living room for two hours until I calmed down.

But then I stepped on the scale this morning and I have lost 9 lbs during my first week. So I thought that the weight loss kind of made the ringing ears, funny heart beat, lack of sleep, and freakiness worth it.

So, I'm asking...are these side effects the trade off for losing weight with phen???

Hmmm....let me know what you're thoughts are on this and if you've experienced any similar side effects.

    Thanks,
    Lola

The effects lessen after the first week or so. Just give your body time to adjust to the medication. I think the first week I only slept a total of about 2 hrs a night. After about the second week I was able to sleep normally.

I'm right there with Nitra, when I first started phen, I couldn't sleep more than 2 hours a night for the first few nights. Now, believe it or not, the phen makes me sleepy. Go figure???

I got the ringing in the ears too...i think it was because i was panicking about the other symptoms and the ringing is part of a mini panic attack. It goes away...just try to relax and keep calm.

Hi there! When I started taking phen last Sat., I was wired the first two nights. I was doing some research online and came across an article from a doctor and it said it was ok to take a benedryl in the evening. For me, benedryl makes me very sleepy. I tried it and it helps alot! I have been taking one every night this week. I actually need it for allergies anyway, but now it has two uses.
    Hope this helps!

I have experienced a lot of your same symptoms, minus a ringing in my ears. I have always had heart palpitations off and on my whole life. But that does'nt mean I like them! Yes, I have lived through every episode and it usually brings on a panic attack too. Just want you to know your not alone and it makes me feel better knowing other people experience this as well.
ps, I also limit my caffeine(one cup of tea in the morning) as there's no sence in stirring the pot.

I am so thrilled to see that I am not alone in no sleep! It's my 2nd day and I was getting worried. I had 2 hours of sleep last night and looks like I might be lucky to get that tonight. I just want to be DOING SOMETHING. I didn't sit down one time today.. but I know lack of sleep affects how I perform at work, so I'm very nervous about how tomorrow will go. SO.. I can look forward to this going away then ????? THANK YOU!!!!
