I think I found this table on this very Phentermine.com site (sorry J & J if this is not where I found it) but I will share with you its info because the question of other diet pills has been coming up periodically. I cut it out and carry it with me because I think it has useful information for curious people about what else is available on the market, and also I show it to nosey (and caring) friends who want to know about the safety of the drug I take.
I show them that Phentermine is NOT the same as Phen-Fen, the controversial med that was withdrawn from the market for health reasons, in fact, Phentermine has been on the market for years with little to no health complications. First I will give the generic name, then in parenthesis I will name some of the trade names, then I will name the year the FDA approved the drug for the public. 1. Dexfenfluramine (Redux) 1996 Withdrawn! 2. Diethylpropion (Tenuate) 1998 3. Fenfluramine (Pondimin) 1973 Withdrawn! 4. Mazindol (Sanorex, Mazanor) 1992 5. Orlistat (Xenical) 1999 6. Phendimetrazine (Bontril) 1998 7. Phentermine (Adipex-P, Ionamin, Fastin) 1959! 8. Sibutramine (Meridia) 1997 Hope this helps.

Being that I have tried everything on the market now; and almost every diet pill. Phentermine alone has been the only thing that has given me positive results. I will continue to take it till I reach my initial goal of 150; then wean off it eventually. I have had 10 years of diet failure and phentermine is the only thing that begins to work for me.

Thanks for the info Laura.
A couple of people have given me heat about taking Phen, because they hear the word and the first thing that comes to mind is Fen-Phen. My response to them is that Fen-Phen was a cocktail of either fenfluramine or somtimes dexfenfluramine in combination with Phentermine. BUT an article from the FDA indicates that it was the fenfluramine and dexfenfluramine that caused the problems and that is why both have been pulled from the market and Phentermine has not. -PWH http://www.fda.gov/cder/news/phen/fenphenpr81597.htm

hi everyone
I'm sorry,i just noticed the approval dates on phentermine stated up above, can cause some confusion if not clarified, that is for phentermine resin and not phentermine HCL The FDA approval date for - Phendimetrazine 1961 Diethylpropion 1959 Mazindol 1973 Didrex (benzphetamine) 1960 Phentermine was FDA approved in 1959, but that was phentermine resin (Ionamin). Phentermine HCl wasn’t FDA approved until 1973 hope this helps

oops! Sorry if I gave mis-information.
All I know is, Phen is great (for me) and without it I would still be 167 pounds and miserable!

You know I've found it strange that I can't find much literature about Didrex which is not the same composition as phentermine but in the same class of drugs

Thanks Hunny. It's strange because it is a class 3 drug instead of a class 4 like phentermine - you'd think it would be stronger but I guess not!
