I think I found this table on this very Phentermine.com site (sorry J & J if this is not where I found it) but I will share with you its info because the question of other diet pills has been coming up periodically. I cut it out and carry it with me because I think it has useful information for curious people about what else is available on the market, and also I show it to nosey (and caring) friends who want to know about the safety of the drug I take.
I show them that Phentermine is NOT the same as Phen-Fen, the controversial med that was withdrawn from the market for health reasons, in fact, Phentermine has been on the market for years with little to no health complications.
First I will give the generic name, then in parenthesis I will name some of the trade names, then I will name the year the FDA approved the drug for the public.
1. Dexfenfluramine (Redux) 1996 Withdrawn!
2. Diethylpropion (Tenuate) 1998
3. Fenfluramine (Pondimin) 1973 Withdrawn!
4. Mazindol (Sanorex, Mazanor) 1992
5. Orlistat (Xenical) 1999
6. Phendimetrazine (Bontril) 1998
7. Phentermine (Adipex-P, Ionamin, Fastin) 1959!
8. Sibutramine (Meridia) 1997
Hope this helps.
