    Question

I went to a bariatric dr. yest. and he put me on tenuate...I asked the diff. between that and something like adipex, and he said its just a diff class of appetite suppressant. He said that before I'm done, I'll have tried all the diff meds out there, and we'll figure out what works best for me...he said when I go back in 2 weeks, if I think this didn't work that great, I can try something else...seems like a nice guy,,,understanding....he does an ekg and blood work before starting you on meds....that made me feel safer...I was nervous, after reading some people's posts...
Has anyone ever been on tenuate before? I am on 75mg. once a day...how did it work, how much did you lose,,,ect etc etc...thanks for any info anybody can share!! Also, what does anyone think about bariatric dr.s? wish me luck!

    Hey cookielady,

I don't know the answer to your question, but I know that there have been other posts about tenuate. I tried doing a search for you, but for some reason the search is not working, at least not for me.

Keep checking the search because I remember someone asking about tenuate.

    Post

I took tenuate before and lost 13 lbs in less than a month....but then I gained it back PLUS 9 Lbs. It lost its effectiveness after the first 1.5 months and I wasn't loosing anything at all. With the Phen, when I started working out (1-2 hrs day), it seemed to get stronger (WHICH IS A GOOD THING).

JacJac, thanks for the reply!!! I was beginning to think that no one else had ever taken it. Were you working out with the tenuate also? Its been 5 days, and I think I've only lost MAYBE 1-2 lbs....I was expecting to not be hungry at all, but I am. I don't snack, but I DEFINITELY am hungry when it's mealtime...so, a little progress, I guess. I haven't begun to work out just yet, but I plan to. Also, I don't drink enough water, too. I think I want to try something else when I go back to doc, hopefully PHEN!!!!!

    Question

Hey cookie..how much does it cost to go to a bariatric doc???? Thanks, KC

    Cool

Kc girl, Hi! The doc I went to charged $220 for the initial workup and first two weeks of meds...He does an EKG and bloodwork, talks with you, examines you, history, etc...the rest of the visits are only $55 or $60, they're every two weeks, and that always includes the meds...he gives you them right in his office. That big fee the first time is the only time you pay that...after you reach goal, and are comfortable, you can stop coming. Then he says, when you see yourself starting to gain back 10lbs, come back, they do the EKG and labs, and start you on meds again as needed...you don't ever have to pay that first fee again, though...it's like a "lifetime membership!!" I wish I could just go to my reg. dr., and get them through the pharm and just pay my co-pay, but when I was at my reg docs for a physical, and complained about my weight, all he said was "well, your the same as the last time you were here." Well, that is still 35lbs overweight!!! I just knew after that, that he would never give me anything...and, I need a referral from him if ins. would pay for the other doc...I just went on my own..it's worth it to me, if I can get the meds, be monitered to be safe, and know that whenever (if ever, but I'm being realistic here) I need the meds again, I can go back to someone who understands, and will prescribe them....The bariatric dr. was VERY understanding...just because I had (only!) 35lbs, to lose, most people think it isn't such a big deal...but, my bmi qualified, so obviously it is...those dr's. that are so against meds aggravate me...this dr. knows what it's like, because he has lost about 40lbs. himself with these meds. He goes on and off periodically for short times as needed, he said, just like he described for me....oh, gosh, didn't mean to run off like that, sorry....I'm officially stepping off my soapbox now...thanks!!! P.s. to anyone,,,I still can't understand how to get all those diff. smileys,,,,I know it has something to do with cut and paste, right? But, I've never done any of that, and when I tried, following that one post, I just got to copy, and ok, and then nothing happened...what do I do then>? Is that right? I hope I got it!!!

Hey Kc, what did you think about the prices, are they what you expected? I don't know, am I crazy to pay that? There is a gen. dr. that someone at work goes too, and he prescribes these meds too. He has a class that he conducts for about 20 people and talks about the meds in general. Then, one by one, everyone meets with him and gets weighed and gets their script. The pharm right behind his bldg. fills the script for about 25-$30 per two week supply. You go back to this dr. every two weeks also, but he doesn't do any labs or EKG, and if you ever stop going, you have to take his class again, and if your bmi isn't high enough, he won't give you the meds again, even if he gave them to you before. His office visits are I think $25 or $30 every two weeks... THe other thing, is that he is about 45 min away, and for that first class, they said to expect to be there for about 4hrs.!!!!! I have 3 kids, and noone wants to watch 3 kids!!! Am I crazy to be going to that other dr.??? Compared to what these other people seem to be paying, I know it's higher. (I'm trying to rationalize this to myself,HELP!)

Tenuate is most effective w/ LOTS of Water. But so is Phen. About 3 weeks ago i made a promise to myself to drink more water. Since the day I made that promise, I have drank NOTHING but water....and I really dont like it. But I dont feel as grogy and dehydrated as I do when drinking any other drinks. Nor I do feel full. And even if I do..so what its WATER!!! At any rate, I feel wonderful and I have lost ANOTHER pound. Its slow, but its better than gaining, plus I feel better about my body when I have to work out. Just be patient. With any suppressent you HAVE TO drink a lot of water. And you have to work out. Even if its just 1 mile on a treadmil (10-20 min). My sis doctor told her to start off at 30 min. Just being active. Its really easy.

Thanks, JacJac, it helps to know that there is someone else out there that hates water like I do, but has OVERCOME!!! I pledge to drink more water......(but there's an open pepsie in the fridge!!!) and to exercise on my treadmill ( but first I have to get it out of the corner of the basement and take everything off that is piled on top of it....)

If you've taken phentermine and you like the way you feel or you notice the feeling, you usually don't notice the Tenuate and Didrex as much or at all.

People who feel the Tenuate and Didrex, usually don't notice the phentermine.

Phentermine is more speedy physically. Tenuate and Didrex is more mental then phentermine.

People who notice the side effects of phentermine don't notice the side effects of Tenuate and Didrex as much.

Some people need to feel the side effects. Some people have a harder time with these feelings.

I think Phentermine does control your appetite better then Tenuate & Didrex.

What's weird is some people can take a phen pill and not notice a thing, but you give them a Didrex and this hits them like an amphetamine.

Personally, I think Tenuate and Didrex work more like Ritalin. You might concentrate better but you'll still be able to eat like a pig.

So ... what am I trying to say??? LOL

If phentermine makes you moody, anxious, or the side effects are too much, Didrex or Tenuate might be better for you.

If phentermine works good for you, you won't notice the other two as much.

If you don't notice anything from phentermine (no appetite change or sleeping problems, or increased energy) Didrex or Tenuate might work for you the way phentermine works for others.

If phentermine does help control your appetite, Didrex and/or Tenuate will seem like they don't work as good as phen.

Robin, you hit it on the head! This tenuate seems like it does make me concentrate on what I need to do, exercise, drink, not snack, etc, but I AM STILL EATING LIKE AN OINKER!!! WHERE is that CONTROL??? I haven't taken phen yet, my doc started on tenuate, but said we'll go from there....I'm DEFINITELLLLLLY gonna ask to try phen....after reading everyone's posts, I'll gladly suffer side effects to gain some control over my hunger....I'm not feeling any side effects or pretty much ANYTHING on the tenuate....I can't belive I have to wait until next Thurs. to switch meds, I want to start now!!! TODAY I AM GOING TO DRINK WATER WATER WATER!!! Robin, also, your site is great!!! I am SO happy for you, I love your pics, you look MARVELOUS BABY!

    HELLO,

Just thought I'd share my story on different diet drugs. I used fen-phen and lost lots of weight and felt great went from a size 12 to a size 4/6. It made me feel like I could just keep on going (like the energizer bunny) then they took if off the market I kept the weight off but then had a hysterectomy and gradually gained back to a size 12. I went to a weight dr. who gave me phentermine (he also did the ekg and blood work) and I did loose but I guess I wasn't really into doing right that time he charged $150.00 for initial visit and then I believe it was somewhere around $85 every 2 wks which did include the meds (expensive) I have even ordered off the internet $250.00 for 37.5 mg of adipex (crazy, but I was desperate) (i did that a couple of times) then that got to expensive so now I am going to a weight dr. (referred to me by one of my co-workers that has been going and has lost 23 lbs)this is my 8th day. He also did the ekg and blood work and the initial charge was $115.00 then you weigh in every 2wks and pay $46.00 and he give you a vitamin b12 shot and the perscription of IONAMIN. I have to say that this seems to be working better for me than phentermine. He also makes you drink citrucel and wait 30mins and see if you stomach is still hungry. (this seems to be working for me with the citrucel because it fills you up and also helps you eliminate which I have a problem with) He did give a food list which does not consume of too much food but I seem to really pay attention to my stomach and it really tells me it is not hungry....dr. says you should only feed yourself when you stomach tells you it needs food and because the clock says 12noon..LUNCH or 5pm DINNER. well that is my story and I am sticking to it sorry to ramble just thought I'd share....and I think I have lost about 6 lbs so far...I am starting to feel my hip bones *****o!!!!

stumpy now soon to be sticky again (a nick name my co-workers gave me when I was a size 4/6) but I WILL MAKE IT!!!!

Hey, sticky! How often do you drink the citricel, before every meal? I guess that would be ok, cause it's not a laxative, just fiber, which is good anyway...does it work? Are you having the opposite prob. now with the bathroom doing #2, going too much? Never heard of anyone doing that with citricel. Oh well, I guess I just have to buck up and wait until I can go next week and get a DIFF MED!!!!!(phen vs. adipex vs. ionimin which one do you think I should get???)

    Thumbs up

    CookieLady,

I take the citrucel when my stomach says to feed it then wait 30 minutes to see if I am hungry or not if not I don't eat and if I am hungry I do each (usually rice cakes or carrots)It seems to really work for me and no I do not have the opposite problem at all. I like the ionamin so far. No side effects at all (no wierd feeling or hype) Well keep me posted as to what med you get from the dr. next week and let me know if you try the citrucel and how it works. It actually tastes like tang (not bad at all)

Hey Robin~ I'm going a little off the beaten path here... In one of the above posts(I think it's 4 up)Cookielady mentions that she loves your "site" something about you and pics, looking "mahvelous"(say like Billy Crystal)

Is this correct? Is there such a site?Is it of your wedding pics? If so pleeease, please let me know I would love to see them!

Robin, I sure wished I would have seen your post earlier! I just ordered the didrex yesterday. I have been on and off phentermine for about 5 years. I doesn't seem to have the same effect it once used to (taking my appetite away) So, I tried to ask anyone about didrex and got no replies like yours! So I ordered it now I am sure it will do nothing for me!!!! How frustrating! Have you taken dridex? How long have you been on phentermine? Sorry so many questions! Jut wondering if there is anyone with my same problem!!!! Diana
