    Cool

Just wondering if there's any Californians on this board?
If you want to talk about an extremely "body conscious" state, book a flight and come to California...
I, myself, am a native Californian and have always lived at the beach (which was great when I was a 'teeny teen'), yet to date I'm still waiting for "bloomers" to become the once again fashion rage (extreme retro) so that I can enjoy the surf as I did in my youth...Until then, I'll just continue telling people that I'm such a avid believer in sun protection that I must wear this muu-muu (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!)

Anyway,...where was I? Oh yes, any others?

    Hello storywriter7-

I too am a native Californian. I grew up in the San Francisco bay area and now I am living about an hour from you in San Clemente.

It is this "body conscious" state that keeps me in check but I kind of like it in a sick sort of way.

I think you have awhile for bloomers to come back but just get out there in that surf and enjoy yourself anyway!

    Great to meet you. >Renee

    just kidding...with you

Hi! I'm several hours north of San Francisco- inland where it's nice and roasting hot. I've always live in Ca. and I guess I just assumed that everybody everywhere is body concious! I used to feel so fat and ugly in my swimsuits- now I'd love to fit into some of those suits! I'd wear them to the grocery store!!!

You're very close to me...it's so nice that someone actually knows where Coronado Island is? I've met Californians (pseudo, I'm sure of it) who have never heard of Coronado. But, obviously a zillion tourists have because they converge here during the summer!
I pass by San Clemente (a great town) on my way to LA...I have a place in LA (a not so great town), it's where I work, so I trudge up, but dash back to my house in Coronado as soon as I'm finished for the week... the commute would kill me, if I did this daily (sometimes I work about 16 hours a day)...but, home is Coronado (my whole life). It's nice to know that there's still some actual natives here (you meet so few), my husband and I are both 4th generation Californians (which doesn't really mean much) but just thought I'd mention it!
At times though, I do take offense (not seriously) to the "California sterotype" jokes, but as true natives know, they aren't speaking of us, just the idiots that move here and give this state a bad name. (I am now stepping off my soapbox)....
anyways, nice to meet all of you (in every state)

    Hey Storyteller
I lived in San Diego for 9 yrs until a little over 2 yrs ago when I moved to Houston. We used to go to the beach behind the amphib base and fly stunt kites. Coronado is so nice. I used to park my chair on the beach and watch all the Navy Seals jogging on the beach..yummy..hehe.

    Nitra,
Speaking of Navy Seals...they just caught a Seal who had attacked 3 women in Coronado last week...since you're familiar with Coronado, you know that 3 women attacked in a week threw the police into a relentless "swat team" mode that pursured this guy until he was apprehended!
*note to others: Coronado has an almost non- existent crime rate.
The beach you're talking about though...I think it's what is now called "dog beach" where all the Coronado dogs (actual canines)meet for afternoon Lattes and a swim...

I have heard of Coronado Island...where the beautiful people vacation.

I even know of the folk tale about that rich socialite who jumped off the Coronado Hotel to kill herself, many, many years ago.

And that Navy seal....that isn't good at all, not at all.

Did you hear about the "drunk" marine core guy who killed a CHP when he crashed into him on the hwy with his car....it happened in So. Ca. (happened this w/e)

Not good. Not good..and this is our countries best defense...bad apples everywhere...

    Bubba,
Coronado is an island off San Diego, it is well-known for the Coronado Del Hotel (100 year old hotel where "Some Like It Hot" was filmed), it is also the place where Frank Baum wrote "The Wizard of Oz", Coronado is nick-named "The ******* Island" after this...it is a very quaint town where "everybody knows your name", but as I said, it is swarming with tourists...it is impossible to park anywhere in town, so you either walk or bike...
Yet, it's a great town to grow up in... beaches, sailing, surfing all year round...and it's fairly safe (except for last week), most people still don't even lock their doors....it's actually almost idyllic, except for the overwhelming, trash-dumping, jay-walking, clueless driving TOURISTS!!!!! LOL

I have been on this board along time. The reason you can't say e m e r a l d is because there used to be a website by that name, not affiliated with this one, that sold phen and other pharmaceutical drugs.

    Hey John and Jipi,
I agree with robin. Howcome you can't fix that SEARCH feature?!? You have a search feature that knows when to block these certain words...

Why are you dragging your feet on this?? It seems simple enough, it used to work fine.
    What happened???

And don't answer you are working on it, if you were it would be available.

    Hey story
Another fact about Coronado is it has Zero homeless population. They police wont allow it. If one of the million homeless people from San Diego gets a wild hair to take a vacation over on the island the police put them on a bus and pay the fare to send them back..lol. Nothing like crime control.

Sheesh doesnt the navy screen these people anymore?? Im sure the cops over there were in a major tizzy. My ex got a parking ticket for parking in a cul de sac in the wrong direction..some cop was really bored. But lil ole Chelsea Clinton was able to ride around breaking the law by not wearing a helmet when she was on her bike..hmm.

Im actually going to San Diego in Sept to take care of some business.

  24. #23

    Post

yes, I agree about the "bored cops"...
if the kids in town are standing near the liquor stores, the police shoo them off because it looks bad for the community,... if some teen throws a "parents out of town" party, every squad car on duty shows up,... if a child is caught outdoors after curfew, the police drives them home with a scolding.
Going back and forth from LA to Coronado, I have to constantly re-adjust my way of thinking regarding safety, or else I would end up inviting a gang member in for cappuccino in LA and in turn, blasting a dose of pepper spray at the out-for-an-evening-stroll mayor in Coronado...My husband also works in LA and stays up there during the week. He says that when he drives over the bridge, it feels almost as if he is entering a time warp.
Even though at times, it gets a little too "Mayberry RFD"....
I really do like the fact that my son is in this type of close-knit atmosphere...my husband's and my own family all live here also. Fortunately, we all like each other! If not, this island could become real small real soon.....lol

Ok, where did my post go? I just posted one about 5 minutes ago and it's not here. Anyway, I have lived in CA since I was a year old, and my husband is a native Californian. Barey, we're pretty close, and we probably even worked in the same area at one time, and bubba, my good friend is from Kingsburg and her parents still live there.

Absolutely. But remember... Those who CAN'T teach...

Kidding! Actually I'm pretty good, been doing it for about 20 years now. I have the honor of being the first non effeminate male instructor at my club.

On a serious note, since this forum admin can't seem to figure out how to run his server or use the UBB software, it's unlikely I will ever be able to find your question, but I will try.

    storywriter,

I am a native californian and we lived in coronado when I was a baby! My parents loved it there. My dad was a pilot with the navy and we were stationed there for a few years. We had a little mediterranean style house that was very tiny but very cute. Then we got moved back to northern california and moved to pebble beach. Now I live in santa cruz. I think it would be nice to live in a town where the cops are bored! its not *bad* here but we definitely have our problems with homelessness (sky high cost of living) and drugs. left over hippie and druggie mentality, I guess. And like sammi rose said, THOSE HILLS!!! anyway, its nice to see so many fellow californians here as well as everyone else.

    Marianne,
In what years did you live in Coronado?
Living in Pebble Beach must have been heaven, even though I've never lived up north, I've always liked it better in regards to the "fog horns, light house" atmosphere...
Sometimes either early AM or late into the PM, I can hear fog horns....combine that with the roar of the surf and it becomes a very comforting sound to me...stirs my soul,
Up north, this is more commonplace...down south it's fairly rare...

    Hi Story!

I was born and raised in Lemon Grove, Ca until I was 15, then we moved down to Imperial Beach, Ca! I was up and down the strip (do they still call it that?) from IB to Coronado ALL the time! 18 yrs ago I moved here to Indiana after meeting my hubby, a jarhead, (do they still call Marines that?) on the beach in Coronado! I'm still adjusting to the midwest. I love the way the seasons change here but I also miss the constant nice weather. I was a surfer girl big time. And miss the beaches something awful! Happy to meet ya, brings back memories.....

Native of Santa B****** here. I currently live in Goleta which is just a few miles from Santa B******. The weather here is GREAT right now and the marine layer (fog) is out of sight (at the moment). Coronado sounds fantastic! I think I may have to go visit it soon! Where would I LOVE to live though??? The desert in Nevada (yes, really). The grass is always greener....as they say.
