    Question

Is anyone being treated with Phentermine plus Prozac? I just read a book about replacing the dread fenfluramine with Prozac or Zoloft - type drugs in order to have the phenominal success that Phen-Fen had, without the heart damage problems of Fen. Sounds very promising, and phentermine only lasts for a limited amount of time unless paired with something else. I lost 30 lbs. on Fen-Phen with no effort and it stayed off until I got pregnant.

A lot of people here take phen with an antidepressant, go back through the old post threads and you should be able to find quite a bit of info on the subject. I know that you have to watch out for something called seritonin syndrome when you take the two. Check out some of the old posts.

Serotonin Syndrome happens when you take high doses of an antidepressant.

Dr Anchors on A O L has site devoted to this topic soley.(and a book)You can email him questions concerning this subject, or any Phen question and he ususally responds the same day.

He said that taken 10-20mg of antidepressant, will not cause serotonin Syndrome...it is considered a low dose.

    Question

    Hey Paula,

I know I have mentioned it before, but I am bringing it up again because of the dosage you mentioned....

I was on prozac long before I ever heard of phentermine. So when I DID hear about it, I made it very clear to the doctor I went to see that if it had to come between choosing prozac or phen, I'd have to go with the phen. I figured I could handle being fat if I was at least not suicidal (j/k!!)

I was overjoyed when he said that most people didn't have a problem taking the combination. It was not until I read on here that it actually helps some people. The problem is, I didn't mention my dosage... and I am on 40 mg of prozac a day! Do you think I should ask my doc about that? I haven't had any problems...that I know of??

I read the Dr. Anchors book ("Safer Than Phen-Fen")from 1997, but did not know he had a web site! I'm excited to hear that and would love to see it. Since the book is 4 yrs old, I wanted to make sure this therapy is still working safely. I couldn't find anything by searching his name -if you know what the site is, would you please post? Thanks! I am seeing my old bariatric doc Friday that helped me lose 30 lbs with phen-fen. I gained it back only after getting pregnant, so I am going to try to get on this treatment. I tried Meridia and it was completely worthless to me. Made me tired. Phentermine alone only works for a limited amount of time.
