While I am certainly no expert, I started Somersizing in April of 00. I had a lot of friends who had lost 40+ pounds on it. The basic idea is that you limit your carbos to only whole grains..and you dont eat them with fat. It is a 'food combining' approach, that worked well for me and my husband for quite a while. I lost 20-25 pounds doing it, but the biggest lifestyle changes I made were to cut out nearly all sugar, and to eat much more fiber. Even though I probably only follow the plan now for maybe half the meals I eat, I still think twice before eating what she calls 'funky foods' like potatoes and corn products. She says that these are what we feed cattle to fatten them up! They are the highest veggies in starch, and turn to sugar in your blood stream very fast, so she says to try to avoid them. the idea is to keep your blood sugar as level as possible. Even if you decide it isnt for you, it is very interesting to read about, it is very science based, and makes a lot of sense! If nothing else, cut back on your SUGAR! look at sugar grams in every food and try not to have more than 10 grams a day. (Especially watch ketchup, bbq sauce, cereal, breads, etc) If you totally cut out sugar, your body will have to resort to burning your fat sooner.
Sorry so long..but hope this helps!

I started on Phen on Feb 3, after kinda stalling out on the diet. I think that in the beginning, I totally followed the diet for every meal, but then kinda got lazy. I still eat better than (even before the phen) i did before i started somersizing, (absolutely NO french frys, no sugar etc) but I have begun to mix my carbs and proteins again. Today though, I had chicken teriyaki at cooker, with steamed veggies, and no carbs. For breakfast i had whole wheat chex. The phen makes it easier to make good choices.

Corn has actually been a lot harder to give up than the potatos. I still occasionally have mexican, and eat lots of tortilla chips. But I feel bad about it! If I have a choice for a snack, I try to eat low fat triscuits instead...high in fiber! Anyway, if you have any other ?s let me know.. there is a lot of good info about it on www.ivillage.com if you want to read more about somersizing...

For me, the best thing is to avoid sugar (easy for me; I don't like sweets) and avoid/or seriously limit starches....(I will binge on mashed potatoes, pasta, etc) I eat meats/seafood....most of the meat is fairly lean, but I don't strictly avoid fat. I have lots of lo carb veggies. I limit dairy products and try to avoid processed meats/products...they have alot of salt and I feel that the strong flavorings overstimulate my appetite...who needs that???

I'm down to 141 now ( finally broke the 142)

I also find that if I eat MOST of my calories before 6PM I am better off. Larger lunch, snack....and a very lite dinner is best for me.

Thanks, Towntime & Sonny!
My weakness the starches too. I'll watch the sugar - maybe that is where things are falling apart.n Sonny glad you broke the 142! Don't know if I'll EVER get there! Been doing good not to eat chips and snack foods, but that is obviously not enough. Thanks for the input guys!!!
Sonny......did you get your Meow back??? Are you feeling better? I hope so - on both.

I'm doing Ok intermittently. You might say..I'm not sick....but I'm not well.

It's hardest being at home, and no Gracie there. So, I find myself not wanting to go home. The funeral home hasn't called yet.

Maybe none of my business, but are you single? Do you have any other pets? I know what you mean about missing her. It is like a habit, to expect their habits. If you have a hobby, try to get involved in that, it might help. I am sure you will feel better when you get her back- ya know? I'm going home-no computer there, will say Hi tomorrow- take care
