How long can I take Phentermine???

My doctor said that the FDA regulates the intake of Phentermine to 6 months on--6 months off the drug. I have been on for 5 months and have lost an incredible 40 pounds! I am terribly frightened to get off. Is the 6 month regulation true? If it is, I am so scared. I do not want to get off and gain the weight back. If anyone can tell me their experience with getting off of phentermine, please do; also if anyone knows about the regulations, please tell me. I also would like to know where to get more since my doctor is taking me off of it.

If you live in any state where there are restrictive laws on the use of diet medications please email me. I will post the responses in this page and try to build a table. I do not know how to get access to all the obesity laws in all 50 states. If anyone can tell me of a link to this information I will put it here. Let's have some help friends.

The Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of most anorexic drugs (appetite suppressants) for use up to 12 weeks in duration. Unless states pass separate laws limiting the use of these medicines physicians may prescribe them for as long as they wish as part of good medical care.

Since the information behind the use of phentermine and fenfluramine has changed drastically since their 1972 approval, physicians may choose to prescribe them unless the state denies this. Listed below are the states I have been informed by email as having passed additional restrictions. I do not make any claim that this table is either complete or accurate. If you know of better information, please tell me so I can update this table.

Louisiana ... Can be used for 3 months out of every year from any one physician.
