Question
Hello to all!
I hope that someone can give me some kind any kind of answer

On Friday the 6th (as in this month) I have to get an infusion of antibodies (I get this monthly) and this is the first time I have been on phen. And before I get the antibodies (they are a blood product) I get lots of premeds
And these premeds are:

Benadryl (IV)
Demerol (IV)
Decadron (IV steroid)
and 2 hospital strength Tylenol

So obviously I am very high and I was wondering if the phen would have some kind of interaction with these other drugs???

Please help!!
I know if I talk to my doctor (that has me getting these infusions) he won't be a happy camper about the phen usage!!
But obviously if I have to I will tell him!

Take care,

Thanks in advance!!

Ralene

Ralene,

The Benadryl and Demerol is going to knock you on your *** I don't like this Quit taking phen and tell your doctor. You don't want to be a speeding idiot

Media Statement of the American Society of Anesthesiologists
Regarding Phentermine (Phen)
The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) is aware of and concerned about reports that some patients taking the diet drug nicknamed "Phen" and not disclosing this to their anesthesiologists prior to surgery, are experiencing adverse and potentially deadly reactions while under general anesthesia.
Phen is actually a potent drugs, phenterimine, that can alter the chemical balance in the brain's two neurotransmitters, serotonin and dopamine. The proper balance of these two chemicals in the brain is critical.
Monitoring the patient's vita' signs is one of the important functions that anesthesiologists do during surgery, and several ASA members recoil that some patients who were taking phentermine have become hypotensive (with abnormally low blood pressure) while under general anesthesia. Left unattended, this hypotension may become dangerous and life threatening.
The "Basic Standards for Preanesthesia Cart" approved by the ASA House of Delegates in 1987 states that an anesthesiologist must develop an appropriate plan of anesthesia care that is based in part on a patient's medical history and drug therapy, including medications. For this reason, it is imperative that patients be forthcoming when they talk to their anesthesiologist about any drugs they have taken prior to surgery. This includes all prescription and over-the-counter medications such as diet pins, vitamins, and herbal preparations.

Ralene
Hi
Isn't Decadron a brand name for Dexamethasone
I really think you should let your DR. know.
I had to take Dex. for a severe case of Poison Ivy and Not only could I not take phen I couldn't take it for 2weeks after.
Be careful. We like you! The diet can wait.

Ralene,

We KNOW you are smart. We have read all your smart posts in here. The question you asked was not smart. You know you HAVE to tell the doctor........or.......call a pharmacist. Get out the phone book, call several pharmacist and get several answers.

We just don't want anything bad to happen to you. Did you read what Danelady just wrote, hell......she couldn't take it for two weeks.
Besides---mother Robin has spoken and you don't want to cross mother Robin do you?

Now.....say the words........
I PROMISE
( i can't hear you....say it louder )
I PROMISE TO TELL MY DOCTOR I TAKE PHEN.

Whewwww......I'm glad we got that settled.
If your body went.......where would you live?

TTFN,
Moonie

Ok I have looked at the sites reccommended for drug interaction and I cannot find anything about phen and any of those drugs that I listed!!
Actually what I have found is that they shouldn't be taken together: the demerol should not be taken with the benadryl!

And as of right now I don't have the answers, but:

Work4it: I have to get the antibodies to build up my immune system, my immune system is comparable to that of a 2 year olds. So I get this infusion every month.

Robin
The demerol and the benadryl do knock me on my ***! When I get them I tell the nurses that I know when they are working because this stand of flowers start 'dancing' and floating up to the ceiling...Looks like the plants in the Super Mario games.

Danelady: I don't know about the brand name of that drug that you mentioned. But I am sure that you got that because of inflammation of the poison ivy and the steroids will stop the swelling. Also thanks for "liking me"

And here goes Moon...Ahem, I PROMISE TO TELL MY DOCTOR THAT I TAKE PHEN...
Actually my GP is the one that prescribed, but my oncologist (who does the antibodies) doesn't know because I haven't seen him yet. I have an appointment with him on October 20th. And I planned on telling him then. And I also know that when I was asking this particular question that I already knew the answer....So hopefully I can not take it tomorrow and I can get the infusion as scheduled on Friday. Because I really need the infusion I have been sick.
So yes Moonie (are you sure that you don't need to be called Momma Moon?? ) I will call the pharmacist tomorrow!!

Thanks, and when I get some information I will pass the knowledge on...Same as if any of you guys get anything concrete please send it to me!!!

Take care,

Ralene

Hi Ralene, talk to your doctor. He or she has to keep everything confidential and really can't be judgmental. A registered pharmacist would also probably know the answers. Hope all goes well!

Robin~~~
I sense that you are making fun of my dancing flowers!! It's true though they DO dance!!

But anyway, I didn't take my phen today I decided to not take it just in case the doctor said that these drugs couldn't be taken together. So I called the pharmacist and she said that there wouldn't and shouldn't be any problems at all.

So I am very happy about this, but of course if they couldn't be taken together then I would have stopped, at least for the minimum amount of time that they needed to be stopped for

And yes Momma Moon~~when I see my doctor on the 20th I will tell him that I am taking phen. Hey maybe I"ll get lucky and he will give me a prescription...

Thanks to everyone for responding so quickly!

Take care,

Ralene
