COCO WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CHANGE SOCIETY FOR CENTURIES BUT YOU CAN ONLY CHANGE IF PEOPLE WANT TO CHANGE!
And quite frankly were sick and tired of going out of our way for acceptance and respect.
I don't give a damn about a tv or vcr being taken.
If they took it from me in a time of disaster that can be replaced
But if I live to see another day those material things don't mean chit to me!
I just don't understand why people are so focused on what someone took during the disaster.
Why the fluck do people keep questioning replacable items instead of greiving over the bodies,babys,old people,young with families and children that lye in the ruins of New Orleans.
If it was your grandmother that drowned in the nursing home because she waited five days to be rescued,would you give a damn if she took a vcr?
Wake the fluck up America!

I think for me it just pains my heart to see people doing something that they know better than to do then to go with the flow of what everyone else is doing instead of doing the right thing!Just me personally I am pained by it,as many are.

It is tough living life everyday feeling like you r begging for acceptance & respect.Truly it doesn't matter your color becaz just being a woman we don't get the respect we deserve.

However I also believe you get what you demand & occassionally ask for.I don't need anyone's acceptance but I demand their respect.Just listening to your words on these boards I know you do as well.

Obviously you are a very beautiful proud black woman & I respect the fact you always stand up for yourself.That is honorable.

I guess I didn't look at it being replaceable becaz I think as many people the question is why bother taking it?But only those that did take can answer that.As well as the entire state of LA.'s black poplution was judged for the actions of a few.

Ok u got me thinking.....I don't know if that is good or bad but u got me thinking.....

I do understand what you are saying and I would never want anyone to think that because I am American I condone my own stealing and killing for greed!But in this case black or what they lost everything and I mean everything!
If they had the whitehouse tied to there backs when this I probably would have been like man I hope they survive
I'm just like that I suppose.
There are some real issues with our government and the little man never gets to address them about.
And you are right! being a woman is hard enough and being a minority woman is even harder,
Katrina was a natural disaster but the neglect to repair the levy's and rescue fellow Americans in a timely manner is just unacceptable and cruel
If any of us have had the chance to look those misfortunate people in the faces after they have lost everything including their loved ones and ask them why they took the dvd player I bet the only reponse you'll get is tears

UGH! I am sooo glad it is Oct & these posts are a month old & maybe some of you have found the truth in some of these lies. Media reported dead bodies, murdered & raped, with their own eyes. Residents claimed these all happened too. Now the military is having a hard time finding these poor souls lost in these stories. Mayor Nagin and his city had a hurricane plan. All gulf cities are required to have this plan & it be approved by FEMA and other organizations. For over 20yrs New Orleans new the levee's would not hold water from a hurricane cat 4 or above. (maybe not even a 3). They wanted to build bridges & convention centers & bike trails and what about the money the government GAVE them appropriated monies for the levee's in millions of dollars? Where did it go? I graduted from that area 20yrs ago and this is STILL an issue. Now its a race issue. IT IS NOT a racial issue. The residents were given a mandatory evacuation, that means go, not stay. WALK if you have to, this was days ahead of time. Why sit & wait for someone else to help you? You have made your own choice. The buses were ready, they never moved, Mayor Nagin??? why??? And why did people not bring their supplies with them? Why wait til the end & the streets are flooding to run to the superdome with nothing? You knew a few days ahead of time. So there are a percentage so poor they couldn't afford a thing, but what was this percentage out of the thousands of people there? And what are you going to do with a bunch of alcoholics, drug users when they can't get their stash? Even cigarette smokers become emotional when they don't a smoke! Fix the levee and the problem would not have been. I'm mad b/c the media stopped in New Orleans and forgot MS. For those of you who don't know it, Waveland MS and Bay St Louis MS aren't even on map anymore. The media wasn't even interested b/c the population wasn't mostly black and people weren't screaming for the government to help them. This surely wouldn't have gotten them an award. These were the area's hit, not New Orleans -- they were the levee news for 3wks. Our people helped themselves, dug and cut themselves out to the street and thanked God for their neighbors and churches. These people had a 30ft storm surge that only the movie "the perfect storm" could give us an idea of what it was like. The people killed here were killed by the storm, not the levee breech flood. And there were people of color included, fury hath no sight. If 75% of greater New Orleans is of color, how easy is it find a white looter? and why do people stay knowing that they live below sea level and do not demand a new levee for decades? Now these residents are waiting on "their" new home to be built, just so "their" new home can get wiped away again in the future. Wake up America. BTW, I also live in a hurricane devastated area and my city had to wait 5 days for FEMA to drop out supplies just to get up & leave again.

And one more note, I am so sorry for the innocence in some of the N.O. people who suffered, we sent donations ourselves and my dad still lives there. No, they did not deserve to lose their homes, but please, take a big look at the big picture, THEIR CITY LEADERS. and BTW, it takes a while to get boats into the city,locals from Slidell brought their own to help, the military can't take trucks........ I'm finished venting now. whew!
