Im an Addict....Im a Nicotine Addict...Im a Nicotine Addict in RECOVERY.....

Some of you know Im not only on a diet but I am quitting smoking also..So I thought I would keep anyone who is interested up to date..

I decided to stop useing the patch. Today is my 3rd day without it...Its been 3 wks since I first started my quit smoking program I slipped up a few times and now Ive decided I dont want any nicotine in my body...Why should I use the patch when it still adds nicotine to my body its a 12 wk program. But I want the nicotine out of my body NOW....

I smoked 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day for 30 years WOW...this is the hardest thing I have ever did. Im afraid to go out of the house Because as long as im in the house and I dont have a cigarette I cant smoke. But if I go to the store I might buy a pack or if I go to a friends I might smoke one of thiers. I really do want to stay smoke free......

Yesterday I was really crabby to my son. He accidentally broke something --Yes it will cost me about $200. to replace and yes he did it because he was being lazy-- but I blew my top poor kid had to listen to me scream (loudly)for about 15-20 mins. I felt bad when I was screaming --honestly I never scream My son is a good kid overall--But I couldnt help myself...I truly was not under controll. About 2 hours later I called him at a friends house to say I was sorry ,very sorry and he told me "that it`s ok mom that he understands and I could scream at him as much as I want as long as I dont smoke" It makes me want to cry just thinking about how mean I was and how understanding he was..and kids really do love us if they are willing to put up with our bad behavior....

Congrats on quitting, yes it is the hardest thing in the world to quit but you will feel so much better. I quit 4 years ago after smoking 25 years myself. Well worth it!

Congratulations!! I stopped smoking 6 months ago. I had smoked about the same as you for 27 years and I was really tired of it. I was tired of the way I felt, the expense of the cigarettes and the smell of everything (what little I could smell). I quit cold turkey. Haven't had a single puff since and I hope I never do. I was a little nervous at first. I didn't realize how nearly EVERY activity I did was done with a cigarette. When I'd hit a rough patch, I'd just tell myself that as long as I don't take a puff, I'm smoke free. Also, the urge to smoke will hit you, but will pass in about 10-15 minutes. Try to ride out those minutes during an urge.

Let me say Congrats on quitting smoking that alone I think it one of the hardest things to do!

My kids tell me all the time that i need to stop smoking but I just have not done it yet, I however don't smoke all the time I am more of a casual smoker and i smoke more when others are around me smoking, I can quit I can do days without having one but there are times when I just want one to want one, does that make sense?

I envy you right now! I want to quit smoking so bad but I honestly don't know if I could do it. I KNOW I couldn't do it without blowing my diet. How do you handle both at once? I can't even imagine! I'm thinking about doing the hypnotist thing to help me out. It's like $100 and they claim it's a one time deal...I don't know. I'm a bit skeptical.
My brother quit smoking about 4 months ago. He has a 9 month old and his wife wrote the baby's name with an ink pen on each cigarette. Needless to say that was enough to make him quit!

My mom did that whole hypno stuff and dont waste your money it didnt' work for her! She came home that night and puffed away! I say it might work for some but it didnt for them!! Maybe they just wasn't ready to quit but she said on the way home she just had to stop and buy a pack! So if you do try it and it works THATS GREAT!!! I also hope you can quit but I also say its hard to do and diet at the same time! So best of luck to ya!

BTW You've done an awesome job on your weight loss, what are you doing to get it off so quickly? Care to share any info?

I am also currently trying to stop smoking. I am taking Chantix which the doctor gave me it is a wonderful I have been taking for 2 weeks and have noticed a big change in my smoking, my stop date is in 2 weeks I think I will make it before then. Because of my fear of gaining more weight when I stopped smoking my doctor agreed to phen for 2 months to help. I took the phen for 2 weeks lost 12 pounds but decided to stop taking it until I totally stop smoking when I am sure the wanting to eat more will come. I have also not been real good about exercise because always out of breath. I'm hoping once the nicotine is out of me when I start the phen back i will be able to do more exercise. I will say been off phen 10 days and only gained one pound back but I think that was because of my daughters birthday this week, Easter, and family funeral so lots of food at that. But i was pleased with only one pound gain as much as i have eaten this week.

I'm very proud of you - and all of you that have posted saying you quit and/or are quitting. I have also been smoking for many years and need to quit - The more i read your posts, the more i think to myself, "DO IT! - JUST DO IT" - so, i think I will do it. Today - right now - not sure if i'll get thru the day or not, but tomorrow I will let you know.

Also, I just started Phen a week or so ago, and i don't feel any surge of energy when i take it, nor do I get a decrease in my appetite. I have lost 6 lbs since beginning it, but....my main reason for getting on it was to get the energy to start working out again - and i just have no friggin desire to workout! I really thought it would fill me with energy and make me want to lift and get my blood pumpin. I'm very upset - any suggestions?

I think that you just really need to be ready to stop smoking. I was more than ready. I wasn't enjoying it anymore. I hated how people would make comments about the cigarette smoke in my hair or on my clothes. I was spending $100 a month on cigarettes. I hated the way I felt physically because of the smoking.

I wanted to be like I was years ago before I ever picked up a cigarette. I did a lot of visualization of that time period before I stopped smoking. I tried really hard to remember what my life was like before smoking. How I felt. The things I did. The hand thing was the thing I feared the most. But I got over it. Then when "the day" came, I rode it out. I think I resembled Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde those first few days. But I soon came back to being myself.

I just kept telling myself, "As long as I don't take a puff, I'm smoke-free". Best thing I ever did.

Yes, quitting is very difficult, but once you get over that hurdle, you will realize it is sooo worth it. I smoked for nine years (started at 14.. shame on me!) and was just getting fed up with it. I didn't really enjoy it, I was sick of spending the money and being one of the few smokers in our social circle. My hubby and I were kind of "half quitting." We decided we'd only smoke when we drank (hah... doesn't work, don't bother!! )... I blew my lid around Thanksgiving when I saw him going out to smoke every chance he got with family members. We got into an argument about it -- I didn't feel he was putting any effort into quitting even though he told me he did want to. Finally I asked if he really wanted to... he said yes and I said "Then we are done for good. No more." We've been smoke free for a year and a half. It gets soooo much easier as time goes on. Just take it one day at a time. Celebrate your accomplishments -- your first week without, your first month, your first dinner, your first shopping trip. The first is always the hardest. You have a great son who loves his mom a lot and wants her to be around for him!

Congrats believe me it gets easier. I used the Smoke Away program and never had a slip. I was so shocked at how well it worked. They now have something to curb your appitite with the program. could have used that one. I highly recommend Smoke Away. I was able to quit overnight. Well worth the price. I have tried at least 8 different types of things from hypno to accupuncture and this was all that worked after 23 yrs. Benn almost 5 yrs now and never a slip.
Best of luck we are with you

Good luck on trying to quit! I recently quit after smoking for 3 years...I know that's not as bad as 30 but hey, I'm only 20. And I hate it because I don't feel any healthier, except I know my lungs aren't getting black anymore. And as weird as it is, it wasn't that hard for me to quit. But I pick up and drop addictions easily, which is NOT a good thing. The only one I can't seem to drop is my food addiction! But my boyfriend has been smoking since he was like 9 years old, which really bothers me.
You can try a prescription from the doctor, my bro-in-law just got one because my sister's pregnant. And I don't know exactly how that works, but I'm not sure if it has nicotine in it or if it's something else altogether.
Anywho, good luck with the weight loss and the cigarette loss!

Congratulations. It's the most addicting thing I have ever seen. I have even told people I'd rather not eat then not smoke. You really want to quit and that's great. I hope I get to that point soon... as it now I justify my smoking with "I don't want to quit right now". I wish I had your willpower!
