Kittypie, I would have punished my son too with the crumpled note situation......although at his age I'd probably do the same thing out of fear of getting killed. My parents didn't spank us, they BEAT US....and for some reason I always got it more than anyone else. It really put a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to the whole hitting situation, but i"d be lying if I said I didn't spank my kids now and again. My spanking I mean one big swat in the behind....not taking out a belt or anything like that. The biggest punishment is me taking away computer game time, I think that hurts them more than spanking. Anyway you did the right thing and if grandma can't follow and respect your wishes then your son can't go there anymore. That's the way I laid down the law with my inlaws because my mother in law was the same way.

better get some work done before i get fired tomorrow.

Scat: Hey, thanks for the support. Sometimes I feel like I am the worst mom in the world b/c my son is always in trouble and I'm always punishing him. He doesn't listen, he back talks me, he is mean to his sister and so on. He gets good grades, but hates school and hates having to pay attention. Everyone keeps telling me "it's a boy thing", but he is driving me NUTS! And I am sorry to hear you were beaten as a child, and no I would never go that far either. I've never used a belt, just my hand and they get as many swats as they are old, bent over my knee the old fashion way. (If I only did one swat, he would probably just laugh at me!!) I did get spanked with a belt as a child, but only for the worst offenses... like lying, and getting an F on my report card. Everything else was pretty much being grounded. And let me tell you.... I didn't lie after that one time, and I for sure did not get any more F's on my report card!!! I think kids need to know that parents mean what they say and if the kids don't listen, then there are consequences. Too many kids today get away with being bad, and that's why there are so many out of control pre-teens and teenagers running around with no sense of right or wrong, and no moral values. Of couse I do not condone beating children, but spanking them as punishment in the name of love, and correction, I think is essential for kids. And, you're right. I need to tell MIL that she can't have him over if she can't respect our wishes.

I just pray that he learns his lesson and starts taking me seriously and behaves so I don't have to punish him. I hate doing it. I wish we could just get along and be happy, but it seems like we are always butting heads. I don't know if we are too much alike and both too stubborn to give in, or if he really just enjoys not doing what I say to make me mad??? I'm stubborn enough to be like "I am the MOM and you WILL DO WHAT I TELL YOU TO DO!!!" and he's like "YOU DON'T OWN ME!!!!" lol. I mean, I kind of expect that kind of attitude when they're older and getting to be teenagers and want their independence, but at 8 years old?? When I was eight I knew better than to back talk or not do something I was told to do!!

Anyone here raised a boy?? Please give me some advice!! I grew up with 2 younger sisters, so boy behaviour and attitudes are all new to me and I don't know what to do. I can't give in... but he's stressing me out too! Sometimes I just want to wash my hands and not deal with it. How do I break his attitude problem without breaking his spirit? I don't want to be so mean to him and punish him all the time to the point he gets depressed and feels bad about himself, but I can't let him get away with bad behaviour either! I try to reward him when he does good, but then he's bad right after that!! Maybe he needs counseling?? I don't know. Maybe he has ADD? I don't know. I really, really, really don't want to fight with him anymore. He doesn't act like this with his dad (as much), so I know it can't be a medical problem. It's just like he doesn't care what I have to say, like I'm stupid and he doesn't have to listen to me.

I hope I taught him something yesterday! We'll see in 2 hours when he gets out of school, how it went. (sigh) THIS IS WHY I DON'T WANT ANY MORE KIDS!!!!! LOL My daughter will be 4 in two weeks, I hope we get along better when she is his age! At least till she's 12 or 13, right?? I just keep telling myself "he'll appreciate you being tough on him when he's older" that's my mantra to try to not feel guilty all the time.

Why doesn't anyone tell you how hard it is to be a parent?!?!?!

Kittypie,

I have two boys and I don't believe that they are any harder or worse behaved than girls are. I've seen some pretty bad behaved girls too. It all depends on the child's personality. The way you describe your son being in school maybe he DOES have some kind of ADD thing....I would mention to the pediatrician. I'm not thrilled about everyone using that diagnosis as a scape goat and I'm very anti medication for kids unless totally necessary (seems like every one out of four kids was on meds for ADD a few years back). But you know it may put your mind at ease knowing that there is reason that your son is acting out in school. My older son had difficulty in preschool but I think that is because there were some bullies in the class and he didn't know how to cope or raise his hand and tell the teacher what was going on. He quickly got "with the program" in elementary school.

Both my boys teacher's haven't had any complaints about them so I t hink my boys are doing well in school. Occasionally They talk back at home and my younger one can get pretty cranky...I think we spoiled him because he had a speech delay and was the baby .....I am nipping any kind of crap like that in the bud now. I tell him no play date or no computer time and that seems to do the trick. I'm sorry that i'm not more help to you......it doens' tsound like you are doing anything wrong because you are trying to discipline him with love the way that you are supposed to (according to Nanny 911! LOL)...but the thing with your son not paying attention in school sounds like it could be a problem other than him being bored, you know? Maybe the school can refer you to a place for your son to get tested just to rule anything out.

Being a parent is the hardest thing in the world, but also the most rewarding. We all have our days girl, hang in there!

Hello phen family!!! Whew!! Call my day at work one for the books, craz-ay!!!! Have just a few seconds to say hi, sorry you're under the weather LZ gurl, please feel better soon!! And Kittypie, I read your first post, and yeah gurl, spank that boy!! You did nothing wrong in punishing him, that is what you're supposed to do, he's got to understand that there are dire consequences when you are bad - that's life, and the same thing will happen when he grows up and becomes a man, so he needs your "direction" right now to get him set in the right direction!! You should see my daughter with my grandson, he is real bad too, and she will spank that bottom in a minute, or whatever else she can reach!! It's called discipline; these days, that "time out" mess just doesn't work, so good for you mommy!! Gotta run, I'll be back and will post tonight --

Hello phen family!! Well, I just finished doing my bike, 330 calories, 10.5 miles for 45 minutes! That was the first workout I have done in a while, so no more breaks like that, or this weight will never come off!!

I had a great menu of low-carbs today:
B: Atkins Advantage protein shake
S: small handful of macadamia nuts
L: 1/2 egg salad sandwich on wheat bread, low sugar/low carb yogurt
S: SB protein bar
D: scoop of tuna fish, scoop of egg salad, 3 strips of microwave bacon, 4 Eating Right crackers

Hope everyone is doing great; we've got our final weigh-in on Friday, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good numbers!! I'm off to take a nice hot shower, then to bed - have a great night!!
Let's remember to keep Trauma in our thoughts and prayers for safe traveling mercies while she is on the road!!!

it has been a stressful week, so I'm sure that didn't help...but in life there is always going to be stress....I need to learn how to cope in other ways.

putting it BEHIND me (unfortunately that means figuratively AND literally because my butt is growing as we speak!). will have a better day tomorrow....

Hi phen family!! Krissy was asking about the new challenge, so here's the info on that -- I have the title; our continuation challenge will be called "It's A New Season" Spring Challenge, and hopefully I can get that thread started up by mid-morning tomorrow -- I will also be posting our first weekly challenge tomorrow as well; the weather is getting too nice too quickly, and the heavy coats are starting to come off, so no break between challenges for us, we gotta keep on pushing this thang!! LZ will be needing your final weight number tomorrow to finalize her chart, so let's be sure to PM her with that info (hope you're feeling better today, LZ)!!

I luv you all; here's to another great challenge, and I hope new members will join us, folks who are in the same weight-loss struggle, people we can inspire, have great conversation with, and include in our phen family circle!!

Arrow Happy Thursday
Hey ladies.

I am going to spend a few minutes and get somewhat caught up.

Still on the prednisone and when I went to TOPS yesterday I was up 8 pounds in two weeks (we were off last week Spring break). Actually it's up seven pounds since last Friday! This should not even be possible for a person my size. I am being very philisophical about this because I know it is mainly fluid. It will still take at least a couple of weeks to get rid of it after I quit taking the medicine. Hopefully, by Saturday.

Also, continued problems with my hip and knee. I am not doing the aerobics for now. Did work out in the garden tilling and planting for four hours yesterday. I think I am going to stick to my outside work and walking. I wish I had a pool!

Did I mention my Hubby had his debit card info stolen. There was several hundred $ charged to e-harmony and other such sites. The bank called us. B of America has a great fraud department. Secon time in three years we needed them. Geesh, I'm glad Ii didn't see those charges before they called. Even though have no reason to doubt him, that would have been a shocker. So, I had to do some f/u on that. I have a crazy amount of stuff to do and could hardly force myself to stay awake Mon & Tues. I feel somewhat better since.

CD, you will be an awesome leader! Your posts are naturally motivating. I am proud of your week and glad to share in it.

Trauma, we hope things are going well with you. I would have put the scale in the suitcase too.

Krissy, I have been off the phen because of feeling so bad. I feel like I am wasting it when I take it with the prednisone. However, I took it yesterday and it helped me not feel quite so bad. The jury is out on if I'll take it today. My tummy is feeling better; however, I'm still not drinking coffee in the morning.

Kitty, you sooo did the right thing with your Son. You are not a bad mom. It would not be a bad thing to have him screened for ADD. His behavior is not just being a boy. Do you have a school counseler? They may be able to help direct you to the next step. I might just have to string MIL up!

How is the no phen going?

Scat, I can relate to putting it behind me. LOL

Okay, back to the fun. Thanks for the therapy all. You rock!

Scat: Gurl, don't even worry about the binging; my binge-fest went for two whole weekends, I was gobbling sugar like there was no tomorrow; oh, by the way, did I tell you guys that I got my "jelly bean" fix in too??!! Yep, sure did!!! Not to worry gurl, just shake the dust off, lift your head high, and begin afresh and anew!!! Oh, by the way, I noticed that after losing a few pounds, men wait until we pass, and then check out our "rear" big-time?!! I have caught several of them doing that, craz-ay!!! And luving it!!!!

Hi LZ! So glad to hear you're doing better!!! I promise to do the best I can to follow in your footsteps, but it won't be easy, because you are such a natural when it comes to leadership!!

How terrible that hubby had his card stolen, my goodness ... We also bank with B of America, and so far, we haven't had any problems, but it's good to know that if we ever do, they are on the ball concerning getting stuff like that caught quickly. I remember when my daughter had her cell phone stolen right out of her truck, probably by some kids because she was dropping my grandson off at school and was parked right in the school parking lot. I've told her never to leave it in the truck, but she was rushing that morning. And within seconds, they had made all sorts of long-distance calls, were calling and downloading music, ridiculous ... Fortunately, she wasn't held responsible, and since she had her phone insured, she was able to get another one in good time, but there were phone numbers on the old phone that she will never be able to retrieve back.

And I hear you about wanting a pool -- there is an outdoor pool at a recreation center that is about 10 minutes away from me; it opens on Memorial Day, and they have water aerobics twice a week, so I plan to go to them faithfully when they open, mix those up with my biking. But you know, doing outside work is hard work, and burns up calories big-time!! I can relate to joints hurting, sorry to hear that, hang in there ...
